  1. I think this is a really fun fitting tool. The only issue I could see is for folks with early release or fast swing tempos. Shaft characteristics can be very important in those instances. I wonder if that affects head performance—it may not. Still for $7 it is a great place to start.
  2. To get back to X's original post, I'm shocked an industry that tries to make money by selling golf clubs thinks we should be carrying more golf clubs. "Help tremendously for rec golfers" ??? I doubt it. If a rec golf really needs an extra wedge (which is a skill club and requires practice) or hybrid, they should think about dropping that 22* 4 iron form the bag. I think this would be nothing more than a "stimulus package" rule for OEMs, and I'm not sure why that would be a good thing.
  3. The very first time I ever broke bogey golf, I just decided to try playing the course like bogey was par. The very least I figured I can't do worse than I had been already (which was always 90+). I approached every hole as if it was actual par +1 and planned my strategy accordingly. It forces you to take such a smarter strategy when you are actually trying to make bogey and not par. You approach holes differently and make shots you wouldn't otherwise (like avoiding bunkers). There are always a few holes that it makes sense to try to go for the green in regulation or try hitting a longer tee ball (which then counts like a birdie if you make par). RESULT = I shot 3 under bogey golf that day—my playing partners couldn't believe it.
  4. Can I ask some of the folks who are having their bathrooms re-done if they are willing to share about price. I have an older home with 2 bathrooms upstairs that are small by today's standards (each about 5' x 9'). They are in rough shape and pretty much need to be gutted. To create the illusion of more space, I really want to go with a tankless toilet, which I'm sure will add more but I think could be worth it.
  5. Not sure if I saw it or not, but I would put James Sieckmann - Your Short Game Solution ahead of Pelz book. Pelz is guilty of over complicating things at times (although his analysis is spot on). Sieckmann will give you the simplest approach to the short game I have read to date.
  6. I have actually seen that putter in the wild before. I agree the shaft insertion is very unconventional. On another note, MGgolf sells a lot of nice stuff at a fraction of the price. They are taking the bargain golf approach but I think they also do a really good job. https://mggolf.com There gloves are excellent. Their rangefinders are a bargain as well and have been reviewed by a few members on here https://forum.mygolfspy.com/topic/14115-m400-laser-rangefinder-with-pinseeker-technology-by-mg-golf/?hl=mggolf MG has a new model now though. If Plaid or Foz see this they can provide better info.
  7. That's the truth. I never like to break a tee.
  8. Nice write up! That Driver distribution pattern is something to be proud of.
  9. Basically just Newton's Third Law of Motion. Ground pushes on the tee with the same force the driver imparts to it. Greatly depends on the tee interacting with the ground. Is the ground in front of the tee soft or firm? Let's assume the driver exerts the same amount of force on the tee with each swing. If firm relative to driver force on the tee, then the ground pushes back on the tee and sends it backwards If soft relative to driver force on the tee, then the ground gives way to the driver force on the tee and flies forward. There are many more complicating factors besides that (such as were on tee the driver might make impact) but that is the simplest explanation. My preferred tee flight is when the tee rebounds off the group and pops straight up. I always imagine holding my follow through and lazily extending my hand to catch the tee on the way back down. Tee goes back into the pocket and then pimp walk off the front of the tee box.
  10. I vividly remember breaking 90 the first time. I was a junior member at a course that was a par 70. I remember heading to the course one day and thinking. "Huh, if I just bogey every hole, then I would shoot an 88." I had literally never thought about it before. It was like a revelation. So I played every hole like a bogey was a par and making shot selections based on that. I shot an 89. Can't remember my first 70s round and still waiting on my first 60s round
  11. I've had the 3 wood for while It's a canon and has a surprising amount of forgiveness for a fairway wood - not as much as a driver of course, but still impressive. Even though the distance is great, I find it does not have a solid feel (which is always subjective). It feels like you are hitting a hollow fairway wood. That critique is pretty minor though. I actually don't use a 3-wood enough for it to be a big deal. Should maybe try out a formal 4 wood
  12. Great story and congrats Paul! This is bringing back memories, but more to do with the rounds that followed my sub 80 round. A slew of mid to high-80's rounds that crashed me back down to earth. I think I just put too much pressure on myself to hit 70's every time I went out. Barbajo, moving away from MN? Headed back to NE?
  13. Breakfast is by far my favorite meal I make an omelette almost every single day. I am a firm believe that the egg should only be in the pan for 15 seconds max. The egg gets super light and fluffy that way. Cook it too long and your egg is leathery. Learned the technique from Julia Child.
  14. This list is insane! You actually gamed all of those sets? I have to say - My Maxfli Revolution Black Dots are still amazing. Most underrated and largely unknown iron from back in the day. There is a loyal following lurking on the internets still.
  15. Thanks folks. I assumed that one of these entities had the patent on groove tech. I realize EVNROLL has gearing because of how the groove width tapers, but if PING owns the IP behind grooves replacing lost energy, they would come after Rife regardless of his new advancement. I would think that if PING patented groove depth, they would have patented groove width at the same time. (Or vice versa given Fozz's comment about Rife sued PING) Am I the only one who would find this an interesting blog post? I can just see the page views rolling in for a story about the minutia of intellectual property law and first filing dates.
  16. Still not clear on how EVNROLL tech is different from PING's True Roll. Is it that EVNROLL plays with width and PING is about depth? If anyone is on speaking terms with Rife please ask. He seems like the kind of guy who would be open to talk about it. Fozz, you still have his email?
  17. It is a molecule of benzene showing electron delocalization. That particular representation has largely fallen out of fashion, but I revived it for my profile pic. The boat and chair geometries are something different. Nerd party over!
  18. hcky- err - GS Meyer (looks like I haven't been around for a while) Did you order yours from the website or find some place to get a fitting? PGA superstore?
  19. panicked signing up for the forum... I'm a chemist and we swing clubs and so the alliteration seemed fine = chemclub Anyone familiar with organic chemistry might recognize something in my profile image/pic.
  20. 1. Have you purchased any golf products based on MyGolfSpy reviews? (Please list which ones.) Tiba putt DST Compressor wedge (likely buying 8-iron next summer) Snell MTB Putting together the cash for an ENROLL flat stick range finder and GPS (reviews helped me identify features I wanted) 2. How has MyGolfSpy changed the way you think about golf equipment? Found out club fitting is pretty important. Made me realize that for my game, advances are likely to come through a good custom fitting. This summer has been a huge learning experience and that has all been through MGS main blog and especially forum. 3. Have these purchases lowered your scores? (List which products and how much they have lowered your scores.) I have had some time off golf but I can now play and confidently shoot 70-80 where as in previous years I was a 80-90 player. I would say that is because my overall game has improved thanks to the training aids listed above. 4. How have these purchases helped you enjoy the game more? How? When you shoot lower you enjoy the game more. I can only play once a week if I am lucky. So it has really helped me keep my game in shape. I have been shooting some of the best scores of my life, and that is coming off of a 10-15 year hiatus.
  21. I cut 1.25" off my R11. I took it to the range and kept swing and hitting adding 1" of lead tape to the head at a time. It was really interesting to feel the clubhead more with each addition of tape. I don't remember how much I added, just kept going until I didn't like the feel. Removed that one strip and viola!
  22. I use the orange whip and really like it. I use it mostly in the off season to keep my tempo and swing plane in shape. I have a tiba putt but I really don't use it enough to be honest. I also have a DST wedge but would really like the 8 iron (but that is a low priority purchase for me - I have actual real clubs I need to buy!). I also have a Swing Extender. It is a really nice thing to use on the range. One of the best things I have bought is a swing guide. You can get them on eBay for $2. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Golf-Swing-Plane-Guide-Trainer-yellow-AD-/112098411657 It really helped me in keeping my wrist flat in the back swing (the yellow arm won't contact your arm correctly if your wrist is cupped or too bowed). I have a momentus and I just bought another swing guide to put on it for off-season swinging. alignment rods of course too!
  23. Also! Just bought a clicgear 3.5+. Anyone else on here recently make the switch from carrying to pushing? Hoping it fixes my late round collapses.
