  1. Shot 74 yesterday for a net 1 under par. There were a few little mistakes here and there, but I'm extremely happy to be shooting that low this early into the season. Normally I don't start hitting the low 70's until July or August. Maybe the start of a special season???
  2. Date 05/06/2023 Course Name Western Lakes GC Gross Score 74 Course Handicap 3 Gross Strokes over/under par 2 Net Score to Par -1 Net Score 71 Net Birdies or better 5 Longest Drive 277 Best round of the short golf season. Positive strokes gained in driving, short game, and putting, but I'm struggling a bit with my irons for some reason. Still extremely happy with a 74 this early in the season.
  3. You had me hooked at the Wisconsin connection. Good to see you had a worthwhile time @revkev
  4. Date 05/04/2023 Course Name Western Lakes GC Gross Score 79 Course Handicap 3 Gross Strokes over/under par 7 Net Score to Par 4 Net Score 76 Net Birdies or better 3 Longest Drive 282 Actually really happy with this round even though I was only at a net 76. Felt like I had my C- game today. Only hit 3 of 14 fairways (though most were just in the rough), and 9 of 18 greens, but someone managed to limit the damage on most holes and still stay in the 70's.
  5. You did the right thing. State the issue plainly without being a jerk or confrontational about it. Funny enough, I just received an email from our head pro about cheating in our weekly league. Sounds like he originally asked the accused about the situation but they were completely dismissal about cheating. I wonder what they did to have someone 1. accuse them of cheating, and 2. be serious enough that the head pro actually contacted them about it. In 7 years of running the 2-Man League, I have never had to deal with anything that I would consider a “Major Issue”. This has always been a great league consisting of a group of guys that are here to enjoy the game and their time on the golf course. Unfortunately, since there is prize money involved, following the Rules of Golf is not implied, but rather mandatory. Over the weekend I was notified of a team that was not only violating the Rules of Golf but not willing to take it seriously when it was brought to their attention. To ensure the integrity of this league, I have resigned that team from the 2-Man League and added a new team from the waitlist. While I understand that the Rules of Golf can be complicated, and while ignorance is no excuse, disregard is inexcusable. I would like to make sure all members of this league understand that the USGA Rules of Golf govern all play. If there is an instance where you do not know a rule, I would suggest that you consult with one of your playing partners. It would also be a good idea to download the USGA Rules of Golf app on your phone as a reference. The goal of this email is not to turn everyone into the golf police, but to make sure that everyone is playing the game following good sportsmanship. We are here to enjoy time on the course, but I’m sure all of you would agree that standards should be set and met at the same time. Should an honest mistake be made, please do your best to rectify it, but at the very least learn from it and keep it from happening again. Should you see something that you believe is wrong happening on the golf course, please bring it to my attention and allow me to deal with it appropriately. Thank you for being part of the 2-Man League.
  6. I went through a swing eval and 10 lesson pack back in 2010. At the time I was about a 12 handicap and had a completely self-taught swing. At the time I thought the lessons were extremely worthwhile. Getting that instant video feedback of different positions and rotations really helped me see what an "ideal" swing would be. My handicap dropped from a 12 to an 8 that summer. The negative side of things is really that no two swings are alike and it may do you more harm than good if you get an instructor that only can teach to the numbers they have in their database. While it's cool to see my swing vs Tiger's, am I really ever going to be able to play like him? The good coaches at Golftec will be able to go above and beyond that data, while the poor ones will only know how to stick to their template. The only other thing I would add is to make sure you practice what they teach you. I would always go to the driving range right after the lesson while the ideas were still fresh in my head to try and really hammer home the lesson of the day. Good luck with the lessons!
  7. Congrats @RoverRick, @McGolf, @pozzit, @Splatt, @Syks7, and @TSauer. It will be interesting to hear about this 6 week test versus some of the normal putter tests we have here on the forum. Hope these all work out for you!
  8. Date 04/27/2023 Course Name Western Lakes GC Gross Score 77 Course Handicap 3 Gross Strokes over/under par 5 Net Score to Par 2 Net Score 74 Net Birdies or better 3 Longest Drive 288 Only one real birdie on the round but no doubles or three putts.
  9. It really depends on the instructor. If you have a workout with Troy Van Biezen (Scheffler's performance coach) he talks a lot. Almost all of his workouts are great, but I've found myself doing extra reps or jogging in place while he was talking. Most instructors show one rep and then get into the actual set. For really complicated moves I've found myself getting the hang of the motion while they moved on and then going back 15-30 seconds on the app to get back in sync with the program. Cost is definitely on the higher side when you consider the $200 initial purchase along with $200 yearly subscription. Time-wise most workouts are between 25 and 40 minutes long if you stick with the workout of the day. If you pick something from the library you could get by with as little as 15 minutes a day. Someone mentioned before you could always buy the swing trainer bundle and then cancel the app subscription after 30 days once you have a few workouts written down that you like. Off the top of my head I would say about 75% of the daily workouts use the swing trainer and are unique to anything else you would find online. The remaining workouts utilize bands, dumbbells, or just bodyweight similar to many other workout programs. Obviously any workout program is only going to be as good as the effort you put into it. I've tried Fit for Golf, Beachbody, and many other workout programs. This has probably been the most helpful and enjoyable to my overall golf game.
  10. Morning everyone. After another inconsistent day on the golf course yesterday I made the decision to take some lessons for the first time in 10+ years. Not sure on any of the details yet, but it's time for a change to try and get better.
  11. Date 04/20/2023 Course Name Western Lakes GC Gross Score 80 Course Handicap 3 Gross Strokes over/under par 8 Net Score to Par 5 Net Score 77 Net Birdies or better 1 Longest Drive 279 Happy with an 80 after I took a triple bogey 8 on the 2nd hole of the day. Also finished bogey-bogey-bogey after heavy rain moved into the area and made the last three holes miserable.
  12. Free case of Coors Light with every club purchase? It'll be interesting to see if there are any noticeable changes to the company over the next 6-12 months. https://edelgolf.com/blogs/latest-news/edel-golf-under-new-ownership
  13. Morning everyone. Today will be a day of checking the weather app on my phone every 15 minutes to see what it's supposed to be like for my 3:15 tee time. Current forecast calls for a upper 60's with a 70% chance of t-storms today, but if you look at the hourly forecast it's below 50% in the afternoon. Hopefully the system moves through fast and we're in the clear by 3pm. Next chance to golf will be Saturday morning when it's supposed to be 41 with a 40% chance of rain. The weather in Wisconsin this time of year needs to come with it's own warning label.
  14. Living in Wisconsin I go through a similar downtime over the winter. The last two off-seasons I've joined an indoor simulator league to help stave off the rust, but hitting off a mat in perfect conditions really only does so much for you. I'm not expecting to be fully back into my usual scores until late May when the course conditions are back to normal and I have 10+ rounds in. Even then it will depend on how much practice time I get in and whether I can play at least 9 holes every week. If you don't already do so I would suggest tracking all of your irons shots the next couple of rounds. You may think your iron play is poor, but if your driver is putting you in deep rough the tee shot would be more to blame than an approach that may not end up 10 feet from the hole.
  15. Morning everyone. Bit of a depressing Monday here in Wisconsin. We had multiple days last week above 75°. Today the high temp is in the 30's and it's snowing. Ugh.
  16. Date 04/13/2023 Course Name Western Lakes GC Gross Score 82 Course Handicap 3 Gross Strokes over/under par 10 Net Score to Par 7 Net Score 79 Net Birdies or better 3 Longest Drive 288 Huge struggle bus this week. Only hit 3 fairways off the tee (two way missed reared its ugly head) and three-putted 3 greens. Putting doesn't worry much since the greens are still coming out of winter, but the two-way misses off the tee were a bit concerning.
  17. @Getoffmylawn and @ejgaudette, any initial thoughts on how you are going to split up your bag with the blended irons? Are you looking at something like 4-6 with the SMS, and 7-PW with the Pro's?
  18. Congrats everyone. If I had a spare $1700 in the couch I would be right there with you getting fit for these tomorrow. Enjoy them!
  19. Date 04/08/2023 Course Name Western Lakes GC Gross Score 80 Course Handicap 3 Gross Strokes over/under par 8 Net Score to Par 5 Net Score 77 Net Birdies or better 4 Longest Drive 268 First round of the year in the books! I actually played well considering it was my first outdoor round since October. Ended up hitting 10 of 14 fairways and 13 GIRs, but had four 3-putts on the shaggy, unmown greens. It was like putting on a Plinko game out there.
  20. 100%. The round is just for fun but I'm still a bit nervous/excited about it since it's my first outdoor round since October.
  21. Morning everyone! It's barely above freezing right now but in 3 hours I have my first round of the year scheduled! The 6 month race to get as many rounds in as possible before winter is now on. Of course I had to start the day of by waking up way too early and not being able to fall back asleep again. Oh well, at least I have this to drink my coffee out of this morning.
  22. Just a quick update on this. I'm 4 months into the GolfForever program and still going strong with at least 5 workouts a week. The biggest difference by far for me has been purchasing the heavy band. It's taken the easier stretching/flexibility movements and turned them into true strength exercises. Also saw a nice little shoutout to the program in Netflix's Full Swing when Scottie Scheffler (paid endorser) and Justin Thomas (turned the branding away from the camera since they don't pay him) were both using the swing trainer.
  23. Congrats everyone! It was mentioned in the Edel SMS/SMS Pro thread, but let's get an iron challenge going!
  24. Home course officially opened today. Unfortunately it's also only 40° and walking only due to all the recent rain and snow. Next weekend looks good though. May have to sneak out for an early nine before the family Easter festivities.
