Did you build up the lower hand area? They look thicker down at the lower half than a traditional grip would.
Good call out. So these grips are somewhat reduced taper already. These just have 1 lower hand wrap and 3 standard. I like to build up a standard size to about a smaller medium

How is the tackiness on these? I just switched the driver and 3w to the Lamkin UTx full cord and love them but at $11 a grip I would rather try under $6.
The UTx are awesome grips! Here in TX with it being so hot, having the tacky is a must.
So far it's been great. Being in AZ we also have a heat situation. The rubber compound is fairly soft and feels really good and the threads aren't overly aggressive like some others but are definitely there to add the improved grip. Definitely worth a try

They are awesome and the price is incredible
I've never cared much for corded grips until I came across these. Now all of my clubs have them and I just put them on to my Toura clubs today. It's crazy how cheap, but how incredibly good they are!

I switched the grips at lunch. The beauty of using compressed air! Switching grips is a 10 min process and no longer a 1 hour ordeal.
If anybody's interested in some insanely inexpensive but really awesome full cord grips, Royal Linktech makes these. These are my favorite corded grips.. and I've tried quite a few.

Question for the other testers.. has anybody continued to use the grips that came with the set?
I've been using them and they're pretty decent, BUT I'm thinking a change to my preferred Royal Precision full cord might be a good move. Something about these grips seems a little off for my preference. Maybe they're a little smaller than I'm used to? Not quite sure.
I think I'll swap them before my trip

Look, any trip where golf is allowed is a golf trip as far as I'm concerned. I got to take my clubs to Phoenix for a work trip in mid-April (right after the Final Four, so it was crazy expensive still), and I was still happy as a clam even though I had to work a bunch after hours to keep up with my normal workload because I also got to play a couple of new courses (Lookout Mountain twice and the Encanto 9-hole) and got in many range and putting green sessions at Lookout Mountain all week long while staying there for a conference the 2nd half of the trip.
Never played lookout Mountain but I've heard of it. Being that there are 100 other courses between here and there, I don't find too many reasons to drive to Phoenix for golf these days lol.
And in my mind it's definitely a "golf trip".. I just can't tell my wife that

Yeah, the whole idea of a Monterey Peninsula trip is definitely drool worthy...especially as hot and humid and rainy as DFW is right now. Today is <only> going to be 91° with 51% humidity for a "real feel" of something like 100° or more...and it's only the middle of June and not officially summer yet...
Haha yeah I totally feel you on that heat. The round that I played yesterday was 107° and it's only getting hotter by the day here in Arizona. 110° is where I have to draw the line but that's usually at the end of July.
Also, just to make things extra clear.. this is NOT a golf trip . This is a family trip that just happens to have some golf being permitted.
But either way I'm pretty dang excited to get the hell outta Dodge for a week and a half!

Ok @azstu324, inquiring minds want to know...how did the round go yesterday? Are the @Toura Golf MBs bound for California, or are they getting put on ice for the week?
Ha ha I was just about to post.
So the Maltbys did great yesterday.. but I don't think they did any better than the Touras could have. Which is a crazy big deal when talking about arguably the most forgiving players clubs that I'm aware of (Maltby TS3's).
After some deliberation, I've decided that.. The Touras are going to Monterey!
Now I feel like a cheesey game show host
I'll be working on my final write up over the next few days and will plan on including my trip and pics of my rounds in the final.

Getting in a late round at Power ranch today. This will be the determining factor for me to decide to take the Touras to CA to play Poppy Hill and PG Golf Links on our annual family trip.
These are 2 courses that one cannot afford to mess around with. Poppy Hill is an "inland" part of the Pebble Beach group. It's breathtaking but also pretty difficult.
PG Golf Links is completely exposed to high winds being right at the tip of the Monterey peninsula, and demands loads of flighting and shot shaping.
At first I was just planning on taking the Touras but.. the more I think about it, I really could use the game improvement help that the Maltbys provide. My last outing at Poppy Hill was one to be redeemed so I just can't afford any room for error if I plan to do that. It's very possible I take both sets too.
I'm actually playing the Maltbys at Power ranch today just to make sure the flame is still there lol.

Curious if you have used p770’s at all they are my current gamer but am curious about both ts4 and the ts1 the website gives the ts4 a hier mpf rating to the ts4 but I find that hard to believe. Also curious how offset might compare between them
Lucky for you, my good friend has the new P770's and we've swapped clubs plenty of times. Usually upon his request.
The profiles of both are very similar to the 770's. TS4 top line is unnoticeably thinner and IM is unnoticeably thicker. The sole of both is pretty much identical. As is customary for Maltby clubs, they're marginally longer from heel to toe but very marginally.
Where Maltby pulls way ahead IMO is the sound and feel of both. I've always thought that his 770's are a little harsh when compared to anything I've played from Maltby. The IM's IMO feel and sound so much better for the same style of iron. I think it's mostly due to the IM's being a fully forged multi-material head vs the 770s having a cast body and forged face (at least I think that's what I recall reading). I used to really want the 770's but then was kind of turned off when I got a chance to play them side by side. Then when you think of the cost corners that have been cut in making a cast head shell vs fully forged, and still charging 3 times more $, it just really turns me off from any OEM stuff.
The TS4 is just a fantastic solid forged head. Again, IMO it feels SO much nicer than the 770's.
I'd say you really can't go wrong with either. And again, IMO, and I know it sounds crazy but I thought the TS4's were easier to play for me. I've always gotten along quite well with blades though.

I do like AJ's videos, especially around club building. So we'll see what happens and what he might do next.
Oh I'm definitely including AJ's channel in my final write up of the Toura iron build. Him and McGolf have been staples for me as far as club building videos go.

Love it! Now he needs to do the TS3 to round out the newest models that most people will be gravitating towards.
He's already got a ton of requests for them. He's going to find out that once you get your toes is in the Maltby pond, it's hard not to just dive all in! I'm sure we'll see a TS3 review from him.
Jokes aside, I know that AJ being a club builder uses a lot of stuff from the Golfworks and has been aware of Maltby. My guess is that with the other videos from Letsplaythru, he's probably getting more requests than ever both from YouTube, and privately.

AJ giving some love to Maltby! This is awesome stuff!!

I don't see that this was suggested but if it already was my apologies.
This is the link to the Toura Golf build and club testing that the 4 of us mentioned by @ctg44 are in the middle of. It's been a really fun project and just a great demonstration of what's possible with these clubs, the build process, and how they have performed so far.

I just literally built this one and added the grip Thursday so I haven't had it out yet. I've been using the Winn NTP 1.10 on my PTM 5 which I absolutely love. It's quite heavy and counterbalances the putter nicely. It also has no taper and is a nice square shape without being too big which I love.
I kind of bought into the gimmick of the reverse-taper and ordered it on a whim so not sure what to think yet. I got the exact one that you have. Med-round.
I'm hoping to have it out this weekend. It feels good in my hands but I really don't know if it'll do anything amazing for my putts. Worse case I take it off and get another Winn NTP

Finally catching up on this thread and I have to say these turned out absolutely
Thanks man, really appreciate the compliment! As @GolfSpy_APHjust stated, this has been a collaborative work that is quite special and unique when compared to anything in the past. Everybody here has absolutely crushed their individual builds! @Toura Golf has been a tremendous support and really fantastic company to work with. Not to mention their clubs are absolutely top shelf!

The only thing I would add is a shaft trimming tool, such as a pipe-cutter or preferably, a chop saw.

Just caught up on this test, and have to tell all of you how impressive your reviews have been.
I have a question.
Would these be a set that a newer player, who wanted to get into building and using these clubs, be able to play well with? Or are these more suited for someone who has a solid foundation and abilty to game already?
Now I know from my own golfing abilities these would not be very gameable for ME. But the question is derived for newer golfers who read this testing thread and see the ooohs and ahhhs.
Hey Rob!
Excellent and well thought out question that shows you're really serious about your game and club building.
I'll never discourage anyone from wanting to learn to build their own set of clubs. It makes this game even more rewarding when you can wield your own clubs that you put together. It gets even better when your game begins to improve with those clubs.
I think the others have voiced their opinions on the CB's in reference to your question. The MB's take it further into the "not recommend" category if you're anything over about a 10 hdcp. While I can't compare anything side by side, I'd say that these are slightly smaller and thinner in profile. For reference, I'm hovering around about a 7 hdcp and these even look a little intimidating for me. That said they are incredibly easy to hit and play given their profile and looks. Anything more than a 10 hdcp, unless your ball striking is excellent, these might be a bit much to handle.
Now would these be something to keep in your memory for when your game is at that level? 100%! I'm keeping these things forever! They are everything that a player's club should be and check all of the boxes.
If club building is something that you are serious about getting into, this is the best forum on the planet IMO. It's where I started learning. First it was removing and installing grips. Then that grew into taking clubs apart and building them individually. Eventually that blossomed into full sets, woods, drivers, putters, specialty custom lengths, and swing weights, electro etching, etc, etc. you will find a ton of helpful folks that are more than willing to share their secrets here.
Lastly, and I know this is not promoting Toura, but Maltby is a fantastic place to start with club building. Not only do they have a bunch of heads to choose from that cover all levels, but they're very inexpensive. You can start with 1 head and go from there. Additionally they have every component that you would want. These Touras are clubs that you will want to have a pretty dialed in set of building skills for. They're definitely inexpensive for what they are but still quite costly in the event that you happened to make any mistakes.
Hopefully that was at all helpful.

azstu234 is a true renaissance man! I have been following the Otto Phlex thread already and dabbling (apparently so are many other Spies as some shafts are suddenly hard to come by and slowing me down.....) and now this!! My wallet already feels lighter.....
Ha ha thanks for the compliment. With various neverending and ongoing projects and learning new things all the time, I joke with my wife that I'm decent at a lot of things but not great at any of them. I never slow down enough to actually master any skills lol.
She also blames me that my 2 kids are constantly moving from project to project and wear the crap out of both of us (mostly her) on the daily .

Toura Golf Irons Build Test: 2024 Forum Review

@Rob PersonI have to agree with this. When it gets really hot and the sweat starts dripping, the stars just get too slippery. I play every year in AZ 110° summer and there's just no holding back from sweating your @$$ off and honestly there aren't too many grips that will help. Don't get me wrong, Stars are THE BEST full rubber grips on the market IMO. But when it gets so hot, you need something with a bit of abrasion like a corded grips.
