  1. Thank you for the warm welcome. In addition to four more years of banging the ball into the woods since my last involvement here, I also completed an undergraduate degree in golf course management. This program included 36 classes and 108 hours in golf specific education. I look forward to sharing with the group.
  2. At a minimum I do some light exercises and full body stretching prior to heading to the first tee. I try to separate practice from play so rarely do I hit balls prior to playing.
  3. The USGA actually has been pushing what they call “play it forward”. The idea is to try to get folks to the right tees. Often times we use age (my club does) but the real factor is how far you hit the ball. There are a couple different math formulas used to help make tee decisions. I read an article that said no player should be hitting a club longer than a 6 iron into the green. This is assuming your tee shot found the fairway or at least close to the fairway.
  4. I was once pretty active here. I went through some life transitions and just kind of moved away from social media. Since my last involvement with mygolfspy I’ve retired from the military and moved from Hawaii to South Carolina. I now live on a golf course and play as much as my body will allow. I’m not as good as I once was but I am as good once as I ever was . current set up: Miura MB 502 Irons, Ping G400 Driver, Cobra F7 3 Wood, Mizuno Putter and Wedges.
  5. By far Scotty Cameron Newport putter. Hate, hate, hate it Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  6. Tiger, Brooks, and Phil. I think the sh#%^ talking with that group would be fun Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  7. A tell tell sign is the grip. Fakes usually have a more rigid feel and the clue used is very strong. The ole sniff test ; Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  8. 1. New golf rules combined with COVID-19 golf rules has definitely increased the pace of play in my area. 2. Looks like a lot of first timers hitting the links in an effort to get out of the house. 3. Decreased number of rounds has improved the golf course conditions. Greens are in the best shape I’ve seen in years. 4. Afternoon golf is a have it your way feast. I’ve played several rounds where I was all by my lonesome. 5. Old at risk dudes hanging out in the parking lot after their round. The need for social interaction on the course has found its way to the parking lot. 6. Spring weather has been a great balance of rain and sunshine. 7. No new equipment this season. I’m actually trying to clear out the old. 8. I’m closing on a new (new to me) home next month. It’s located just off the # 4 green at Cobblestone Golf Club here in Columbia, SC. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  9. It was just one round. I’m not sure why the media and social media are getting so hyped up. The reality is amateur golfers are neither as good nor as bad as they say they are. It’s the whole “one that got away....” complex. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  10. If you do a little searching there is quit a bit of information on line concerning these old putters. I dont have the link but there is actually a website dedicated to them. Unfortunately the one you have can be found on EBay for next to nothing. One point of interest, polishing them is strongly discouraged. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  11. Its a Grip Master which I believe is made in Australia. I also tried a Leather Sticky Grip as well and it was pretty much the same outcome
  12. I tried Vokey wedges at a fitting day and honestly couldn’t figure out what all the fuss was about. It felt incredible hard off the face which really turned me off. I’ve used Callaway MD forged for several years so maybe my opinion is prejudiced through experience. At $169 each three wedges cost quite a bit. Best wedge ever was a Cleveland 588 chrome in 51 degree. I was money with that thing from anywhere inside of 120 yards. Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy
  13. I have a leather grip on my Scotty Cameron. It feels great in perfect conditions but if it’s hot and you are sweating or if it’s rainy the grip gets insanely slimy. Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy
  14. Foot joy rain glove on the left hand year round for me. I sweat like it’s my job so leather gloves get soaked after just a couple holes. Before discovering the FJ rain glove I carried half a dozen gloves in my bag. Even while carrying so many at the end of a round all were soaked. The FJ rain was my savior. 15. I’m 55. I never was a big hitter so there wasn’t much distance to lose. I’ve stayed pretty consistent with distance across my bag throughout the years. I obviously have no supporting data so this is really just a SWAG. I don’t “think” the number of young folks getting into Golf has changed all that much. While people you find in these type sites may have started as a youth most take a long break and return only when economics and time are more supportive. Don’t murder me, it’s just my observation. 16. We have all probably received far more advice than we will ever need or want. Still there are those hidden gems that can be transformative. Recently I received one of those. It has to do with flattening your left wrist (for a righty) on the back swing. This is something I’ve always struggled with and has led to me coming over the top more than I care to mention. The advice was to imagine you are ringing out a towel with you right hand turning it clock wise as you get to the 9 or 10 o’clock position. This has really helped me to strike the ball better. What gem have you received that left a little twinkle in your eye? Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  17. Man that’s funny because I played all the courses you mentioned and my best round came at capital hill. Pulling in off the free way I was less than impressed but once out on the course it was pretty amazing. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  18. Head west through Alabama to the Ross Bridge Course. You will not be disappointed. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  19. Something has to come out to add another putter. Do you have a club in your bag you rarely use if at all? It would suck to reach for your XXX club only to realize you replaced it with a second string putter. However, if there is already dead weight in your bag then why not slide another flat stick in the pocket. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  21. You meant this tongue and cheek yet it got real pretty darn fast. Funny! Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy
  22. I’ve only had it about a month. It’s a 2020. They need to move inventory so pretty good deals are to be had. Right now there is not much I don’t like about it. I opted for the multi function tailgate and I’m loving the option. I also added a spray on bed liner then purchased a cover for the bed. Feel free to ask questions. I’m an open book. 23. I start by swinging two clubs one in each hand. The goal is to ensure the clubs stay four inches apart without clanking together at any point throughout the swing. This keeps the flying elbow from coming along for the warm up. I then go to wedges hitting at say 30% swing speed half swings. After a few balls I move through my bag up to 7 iron hitting smooth 30% half shots. Once I complete warm up with my 7 iron I’m ready for full shots. If I’m playing I normally head to the first tee. If I’m practicing I go to my driver and play pretend holes never hitting the same club twice in a row. If I hit a really bad shot with any one club I will take a mulligan with that club. I really try not to stand and just pound the same club over and over again. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  24. Yes!!!! And it was 100% my fault. I was walking and day dreaming when a guy in my group yelled four. I turned around just in time to be hit in the shin with a screaming ball off a three wood. I tried to play it off but I was almost in tears. Stupid is as stupid does. I deserved it. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  25. Ace with an asterisk;) Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
