srooch2 got a reaction from Rygolf32 in Driver Problems
I want to explain more on the driver setting. It’s generic knowledge that upright makes the ball go left and flat makes the ball go right. This doesn’t necessarily apply to everyone. If you hit your 3 wood good then a flat setting “might” be a good option. Todays drivers are quite a bit upright in comparison to the rest of your set. For me, I could never see the club path correctly, it just looked off. If you flatten it, then it becomes more of a progression from your 3 wood rather than a drastic change upright. Remember also, it is tough to assess online and these are things that worked for me. But for many years I didn’t even have a driver in the bag, it was just extra weight and space I didn’t need, it is now one of my favorite clubs to hit. I’m still not the best off the tee but I am miles ahead of where I was.

So I played my first tournament and had a great time, played pretty good and look forward to more of them. But this was a shocking experience at the end of the round. When we finished, we’re totaling and signing score cards in the parking lot. We finished up and went our separate ways. The kid I was playing with unloaded his clubs from the cart and said goodbye. He was a young kid who played for a small college a few hours away. He was a good player although he didn’t have a great round. When I went to park the cart I noticed he left a golf ball in the cart, I went to look for him but I think he’s already left. I dropped my clubs in my car and went to put the ball in my bag and what did I discover…. The ball was caked in Vaseline! My jaw hit the floor. This kid didn’t need to cheat, he was a good player. I am a newbie to tournaments but I showed the cart barn guys and they knew exactly what it was when I showed them. Both agreed he was cheating and they seemed frustrated but not surprised. One said it is a common occurrence in amateur tournaments. Not what I wanted to find and it made me look at the kid in a completely different light. I never turned him in and I wasn’t gonna go down that road. If he is cheating regularly he will get caught someday. The weirdest thing is, earlier in the round we were talking golf and the topic of Patrick Reed came up. The kid was defending him which hindsight makes me laugh a little.

Rule of thumb is typically; play the softest shafts you can control.

Extra stiff iron shafts, only because on trackman today I was swinging the DI at 100+ mph and my 4i at 97-99 mph. Along with that is a silly thought that my shaft stiffness is hurting my distance consistency. Go ahead and throw tomatoes at me. Throw me outta here!

Similar vibes, my elbow has been a bit tendinitis-ish and my back is always fragile, so I only played 9 today. Man I wish I would've kept going the way I was hitting them, 4/6 fw and the other 2 were within 10y 4/9 gir with 2 others just off the green.
I have that 9 in my back pocket and will try to play the same course from the blue tees this Wed-Thu.
I have a round booked with Dad on Monday but it looks like I'll play from the forward tees, unless we get paired with people my age. If I can play blues I get a fair 13 strokes.

I’m heading to my round of 9 this morning, I played a warm up yesterday and the biggest challenge is how packed the course was. I am used to being one of a few on the course and with this weather everyone is out. I did not adjust well yesterday so I’m trying to up my mental game. I may shoot well above my hcp today…. But I might not
i know I’m nervous cause my hands are extremely sweaty 💦

Man o man I wanna play tournament golf! Right when I step in the first tee I feel energized if I’m playing for something. I shot even par on my first 9. I was going to play 18 but alas, my back said no. Hopefully this post adds a little pressure to my playing opponents and pumps up my playing partner. @J7Hawkins @Preeway @Shapotomous
