  1. Great review! Enjoyed all the videos and comments on the putter...even the wildlife involvement . Do you think the flat face helped you on longer putts vs. a textured face with your swing type? I've noticed this when comparing my original Anser 2 to the TA Impact #3 mallet putter - I'm closer on longer putts 20'+ thanks to the solid face, where as I'm longer on mid-putts and the Impact is better from 8-15' range due to the same issues. However the larger MOI on these Heppler putters might mitigate my mid-distance misses that some... Curious about your thoughts, or any other testers!
  2. This was in the back of my mind during the fitting - what will be debuted in the spring and am I missing out on anything?? However, I realized that we've hit the wall on massive improvements and we're in the incremental improvements stage - few more yards, little bit tighter dispersion, bit more forgiveness, etc... So anything I purchased would be good for a few years and I should learn how to hit my club the best I could instead of worrying about new tech!
  3. So, keep in mind that a lower number sand grit will leave lots of scratches and remove lots of material - we don't want that with a finely balanced putter. The idea is that you work progressively through various grits to get the polished look you want to achieve. For instance, when sanding/honing a knife blade, you don't start with 80 grit as that would mean a LOT of work for you to get it back to a mirror polish (~5000+ grit) stepping down from 80-120-150-200/220-300-400-600-800-1000-1200-etc... all way way to 5000 or more. You start with the highest grit you can get away with to save time and effort while achieving the results you're after. My advice would be to start with about 200-300 grit by hand since it will remove FAR less material and keep the weight of the putter as close to original as possible. If you are still seeing scratches, pitting, chips, dings, etc... then go down in grit to 150/180 and try again. If it looks nice with 200, then go up in grit to 300, then 400 and on up till you get it where you want it with look, polish, etc... As for tools to get into tight spaces, for this purpose I would stay away from machine sanding/polishing unless you know what you're doing. The risk of taking away too much material or causing the shape/balance to get out of alignment is just too great. Instead, try some Sanding Sticks like these. Don't worry about the fact they are for "wood" since your not trying to shape the metal, just clean it up a bit and make it shine again!
  4. Man, I totally feel this. At halftime of UNC v. NC State game son asked me to watch Paw Patrol...I almost missed the entire 3rd quarter before I realized I had been duped into some 50min special and not a regular 20min episode!! Thankfully, my Heels turned on the jets and put up see big numbers in the second half. GO HEELS!
  5. As others have said, I also line up the ball on tee shots as it helps me aim down the fairway. Oddly, though, I found aiming the ball in greens was counter productive. Tested the Align XL and discovered my putting average went UP vs just placing it randomly or putting it as it lays. Go figure...
  6. Guys!! @aerospace_ray turned me on to John Morgan shirts and they are the real deal! As good as Peter Millar for half the price (or less, on sale!) They are long cut so they will stay tucked in during swings and active movements, soft enough (mostly cotton) to not want to take them off as soon as your round is done, performance oriented enough to meet the needs on the golf course or warm summer days, stylish enough to wear anywhere. I've become a huge fan and have already started stocking my closet with them.
  7. Hot Dang! Boston Scott showed up to play last night and I'm very pleased I added him back to my roster. Let's hope the rest of my team does as well Even if Miles returns, his performance this week and next could make him the top back for the Eagles moving forward...or at least a larger share.
  8. Was fortunate enough to play Kinloch Golf Club a couple times since it's about 15-20mins away from my house. First thing that threw me was there were no carts. It's old school, caddies only, everybody's walking type course. The caddies certainly helped since my drives were all over the place and constantly in the rough thanks to smooth fairways sloped down towards the edges. Second thing that I had to massively adjust to was the greens. It was like putting on a granite countertop! At that point I realized how much skill the pros have over us regular joes when it comes to putting. I think my best putting performance was a 3 putt, lol. Overall, scored a strict 112 the first time. Second time I was a bit more prepared and shot a strict 97 and felt like I was ready to join the tour Great course (slope 139, rating 74.8), not terribly long (7200+yds), great atmosphere, and always in perfect shape - no wonder it's always a top course in the nation year after year.
  9. Good points! Although I do like them cleaned up just a bit - especially the pitting/scratches/dings on the face since those do effect performance when hitting the ball. Didn't think about the weight issue, though. Definitely something to consider as I look at potentially trying something like this.
  10. I ended up going the craiglist route and found a whole set of Top Flight clubs (two woods, two irons, & putter) with bag and some balls for $35. Might try that route unless they have show a strong interest in the game and commitment to play for awhile before dropping Ping $ on a kids set. If you've already decided on Ping then I would probably get a set for both since it's not like the smaller one won't grow anymore Edit: Just looked up the price of the Ping ProdiG set ...
  11. Man, I'm right there with you. I've got a bunch of Z-stars on hand right now. Although I did recently find out I "have to" play a tour level ball due to my swing speed, so looks like the Q-star isn't an option for me anyway. Tony, I'm over here waiting anxiously for your Z-star review!!!
  12. Stopped by my local shop yesterday and tried out a Heppler Anser 2. I currently game an Anser 2 from ~1997/8 and have tried a few different putters over the years but nothing felt and sounded as good as my OG...until yesterday. I am eagerly awaiting the reviews and will certainly be following this thread as I might be switching soon, haha. Loved the feel, weight, and design. Made me more deliberate with my stroke, the contrasting colors stood out nicely and allowed me to line up the putts better, and the sound was perfect to my ears - but I am severely biased at this point, haha. Keep the testing updates coming guys! ALSO! Does anyone have experience with Ping Vault 2.0 Putters? Would love to hear about comparisons between the Vault 2.0 vs. Heppler
  13. Hey Guys, It's that time again to replace my glove as I've worn a couple holes in it and I hate to toss all that good leather in the trash each time. Does anyone know of a place that will recycle old golf gloves? What do you guys do with gloves you've worn holes in?
  14. Got fitted into a Ping G410 LST @ 10.5* w/ Evenflow Black 65 6.0 shaft today. Started dropping bombs over 300yds once it was dialed in
  15. Guys, I am so excited! Up till today, I have never purchased nor owned a driver that was setup for me. I mostly played hand-me-downs from my father, church members, friends, etc... and they all had regular or even senior flex shafts. I tend to slice the ball off the tee and the drivers that were given to me didn't help that issue much, so I would end up teeing off with a 3 wood or my 4i in most cases. I've still found enjoyment playing this way and its worked for years, until today... Went to my local shop and discovered they have a trackman now, so setup a driver fitting for today. After trying Mavrik, Mavrik Sub Zero, Speedzone, Sim Max, and G410 SFT, we ended up on a Ping G410 LST @ 10.5* w/ Evenflow Black 65 6.0 shaft! Spin was hovering around 2000-2200, swing speed was 112-116mph, ball speed was 160-167mph, -2* AoA, and Carry was in the 280+range with estimated distance of 295-306yds with one bomb @ 312yds! My slice is all but gone, I'm more confident on the tee now, and I can't wait to get out and play again! Shout out to all you members who continue to stress club fittings. It's already changed my game and I haven't even played a single hole with my new driver!

    Phil

Was a caddie for the recent Dominion Energy Charity Classic and got to see Phil a few times during the ProAm. He was a step above the field off the tee by a good 50yards on most holes. It's almost unfair to the rest of the guys! Got one photo of him on 18 the second day of the ProAm. Was very fun to see him join the "Champions" Tour!
  17. Alright @aerospace_ray, my John Morgan shirts arrived! First off, super fast shipping!! I ordered them late Friday night and they were out the door Monday and to my door today! Second, the box and presentation are TOP NOTCH! I've ordered much nicer, well known brands and they didn't take the time and effort to put their clothes in such a nice, sturdy box with tissue paper and their little sticker logo to seal it all up. Lastly, I tired them on to make sure the fit was right before washing and was equally impressed. Great feeling fabric, longer than regular polos for active wear (eg: looks like they won't come untucked during your swing), and as Ray said, they are mostly cotton so feel soft on your skin. As long as these hold up during use and washes, I think these are my new go to! Nike, Adidas, Puma, Oxford, etc... all feel too plasticky and these are as good as, if not better than, Peter Millar quality at a fraction the price (if purchased on sale...which I obviously did!). Keep you guys posted on wear and tear as I have some tournaments coming up early next month.
  18. When I was selected to test out the new Wilson D7's last year, I was in the 100's range for posts, had only been a member for maybe 8months, and had never tested anything of real substance until then. Since then I only enter my name for something I truly want to test, am passionate about, and know I will be committed to writing a full review of. Sure I'm as bummed as the next guy when I don't get selected, but I'm not in it for free clubs (but seriously, it is a nice perk!). I'm in it to evaluate a tool and convey my unique experience to the community and answer questions. Don't lose heart, don't feel like you shouldn't post because no one will read it, don't take the tact of only posting "when you have something to say" because your advice or unique angle on ANY subject may be just what someone needs to hear at that time. Also, take it upon yourself to test something out and let the rest of the community know about it! There are only a few "official testing" opportunities and way too many gear options out there, so let us know your experience!
  19. On your rec, I ordered a couple John Morgan shirts that were on sale. Look forward to trying them out!
  20. When do you want to meetup and compare Forged vs. Non-Forged D7s?? Need to look at distance, dispersion, feel, and how well it pairs with beers
  21. Not gonna lie, I wish there was an FAQ about golf games because when I get up to the first tee and the other guys mention a game name I just nod along having ZERO clue what the rules of the game are or how to even play a lot of times, lol. Anybody want to put together an FAQ for us clueless golfers?
  22. Exactly...I sat him in my other league and boy do I feel silly right now. Just watch, though, everyone will play him next week and he will share carries getting like 7pts while Snell gets all the goal line stands.
  23. Oh man, nervous heading into MNF double header...hoping I can pull off the double victory this week riding Devante Adams!
  24. Hey, thanks guys! Hoping to get out and play a round this week
