Yes, you are on to something, it's changing habits that can save time.

Like you said, writing down scores, adding up the scores, etc. after walking off the green instead of doing it at the next tee.

Ditto, cleaning the club just used, putting headcover back on, etc. putting it back in the bag, instead of moving on, then cleaning the club and putting it away when you get to the next shot.

Some of my pet peeves for wasting time...

Thinking that golf is a casual, social activity, the golfer walks slowly, moves slowly, takes their time,  talks non-stop, looks at their phone, etc.   These guys may even say, "we aren't going anywhere", so they move even slower.  S-L-O-W....................

Guys who drive up to the tee box and just sit in the cart.     Get out of the cart and tee it up already.

Buying beverages at the green instead of the next tee.  Or in the middle of fairway when they could be hitting approach shots.  Beverage cart operators don't care about pace of play, and most are oblivious too it.

The cart golfers who are only 5 yards apart but each one sits in the cart waiting for the other guy to pull a club, pull out the rangefinder, take practice swings, then hit.

The golfers who won't give up on a lost ball.    Or go fishing for balls.

Then we have the "who's away" on the greens, one guy is 40', the other guy is 40.2", does it matter?    Somebody putt already.   The public golf courses could put a "gimme" zone around the hole too.  (This might actually slow things down)

Waving golfers up from the green has disappeared.    Especially on par fives, long par 3s, and short par 4s.    Nobody does this anymore, not where I play anyway, what happened?

Actually some the traditions of the game make it slower, the who's got "honors" on the tee, whoever is away goes first, these go against ready golf.  "Ready golf" needs to clearly defined and pushed hard until it becomes the tradition.

There is a defined gimme zone on every hole.  It's 4.25" in diameter and has a flag in it.

The most stressful thing for a new golfer is trying to keep up with a unobtainable expected pace. How can someone that shoots 110 play a round in 4 hours?  The best solution is for longer intervals between tee times. I know that means less money for the club, but imagine playing with at least an entire par 5 worth of time in between groups. Most of the time on busy courses you wait for every single shot. That's infuriating.

I shot 113 in 3:14 in July.  Not proud of the score, but it can be done if you're not completely inept.

  3. Anyone wanna get together for a round in the Atlanta area this Saturday? I'll be staying in Winder, but I'm willing to travel. Have a friend in Buford that might be up for a round, too.

If not, at least give me an idea of some place to play.  I don't mind spending for the right course. Somewhere on the eastern side of the city would be best, I guess.

Looking for some wisdom from fellow MyGolfSpy members.

My wedge set up used to be 48-PW, 52-GW, 56-SW and 60-LW which worked out perfect.

My new set that I will be getting soon will have 45-PW so I changed my gap wedge to 50 degree loft and I am caught in a dilemma on what I should do with my SW and LW.

    - I can adjust my SW to 55 degrees so I can keep a constant 5 degree gap throughout all my wedges (45, 50, 55, 60)

    - I can change my SW and LW to 54 and 58 degrees to keep 4 degree gap throughout (45, 50, 54, 58)

    - Or just keep my set as is (45, 50, 56, 60)

I would love to hear everyone's thoughts on how big of a difference a 1 degree of loft on wedges?

I went to 54/58 a few years ago and I like it. The 58 is a bit "easier" than the 60 and the 54 doesn't tend to spin as much as the 56 so it doesn't shed distance when I hit it a little bit "spinny."

For reference, I have ZX7 PW and GW.  I'm not 100% sure, off the top of my head, what their lofts are. Could be 46/50.  Could be 45/50. Could be 46/51. I dunno.  Somewhere around there.

I currently have an Ogio bag with 13 divider top and a putter well. That is 3 years old and is showing wear, zipper pulls broken, etc. Will be looking for a Datrek or Bag Boy to fit my Bag Boy Quad XL.

I have a BagBoy Revolver that I bought and don't like. If you can figure out how to get it to Mexico, I'll sell it to you for $150.

  6. I have 10+ bags in my arsenal. Currently, using a 2022 (?) Sun Mountain C130 for most of my rounds. For range work and the occasional round where I carry (very seldom now) I have a 2017 (?) SM 4.5LS stand bag. Both have 14 way tops that I will never ever buy a bag without ever again (unless I get a 15 way top).

If money is no worry and you're proactive enough to reserve a tee time as early in advance as you can then I would recommend trying to get onto Fossil Trace GC in Golden, CO (about 20min outside of Denver)

Some other great tracks south of Denver would be Arrowhead GC, The Ridge at Castle Pines North, and Bear Dance.

North of Denver I would recommend Colorado National and Thorncreek GC

Lastly, Denver has a HUGE municipal offering, some better than others. If you want to put the effort in to get a tee time, City Park is such a cool course pretty close to downtown with awesome views of the skyline.

I'm not sure I'd say "money is no worry," but I'm not too afraid to spend $120 for a good course.

Any chance you're up to join me. Anywhere, not necessarily there.

  8. Spies, I will be in the Denver area (staying at a hotel near the airport) from June 12th to 16th. Hoping that someone wants to get together to play a round sometime, but the weekdays will probably be harder to work out.

If not, please at least throw out some recommendations for where I should play.  I don't mind traveling a little to get to a good course and I don't mind paying a little, but my game is in shambles now so I'd like to keep the cost relatively affordable.

    ... and go!

I’m wondering what everyone’s thoughts are on golf etiquette for the beginner golfer, or for that matter, all golfers. I feel like everyone knows not to talk in a backswing or before a stroke, filling divots, etc. What are some rules or etiquette that you feel are often not known or overlooked, both on the course and around the clubhouse?

I think the biggest rule of etiquette that's missed by all players is to allow faster players to play through. Doesn't matter how fast you're playing, if there's a group behind you that's capable of playing faster, they're waiting on you each hole, and there's room in front of you, then you should let them through.

You looking at the 2023 tab or the 2022 tab?

Hope I am getting the correct sheet to post status. Hate to be tracking with just myself.🙂

You're right.  I was on the 2022 tab.  Guess I should pay attention better next time.

  11. So, I just recently switched to the Q Star Tour from the Z Star XV.  Figured it'd be a huge change and take a while to adjust, but it really hasn't.  I've actually played some of my best golf with this ball.  Wondering if anyone can point me to a breakdown of the four (?) generations and how to ID them.  I normally buy balls from lostgolfballs.com and I'm curious as to which is the newest/oldest.

  12. I'm currently gaming the UST Recoil 95 F4 (soft stepped once) in my irons (4-GW).  I recently made the move to graphite due to nerve issues and old age, in general.  My wedges still have steel shafts in them.  They're both Dynamic Gold Tour Issue.  One is S400 and the other is wedge flex.  I'm not 100% sure on that wedge flex shaft, but I'm certain the S400 is near 130g.

I'm contemplating changing to graphite in the wedges, too, but not sure I want to go all the way down to 95g.  Thinking of going to the Recoil 110g F4 and putting a 9i shaft in them to match my other wedges.  Wondering what others have done.

I’m making the switch to graphite iron and wedge shafts! Once that’s done I’m taking a self imposed break from the club ho’ing. I’m making it public so my internet golf buddies can hold me accountable!

I’m retiring from the Navy next August and I am keeping my bag as is until 8/1/23.

The wife already knows, my real life golf bros know, and now the MGS community knows. I won’t let you down! 😬😂

I'm sure you've already heard it elsewhere, but...

I'll believe it when I see it.  Haha...

It was great meeting you finally!

@yungkorypretty much nailed it. It’s a solid layout, but the conditions have always been mediocre. I do think accessibility plays into it not being as popular too. You have to have base access and it’s all the way on the back end of the base. And it’s almost always windy out there.

Navy Marine is an easier layout, but it’s in better condition and it’s easier to get to. I heard at one point it was one of the most played courses on Oahu, which makes sense given the location.

Kilpper has its rep for holes 13-15, period. Conditions are decent, but the layout is not anything special. I mean the 18th hole is a par 3 🙄😂.

Yeah, I've never been fond of par 3 18th holes.

I can agree about the course being fast back out of the way and Navy being easily accessible.

I'm hoping to get in 5-6 rounds while I'm there.  Just trying to narrow down where.
