Most high handicappers/slower swingers should be gaming 4woods or 5Woods instead. They simply don’t have the club head speed to elevate a 3w, especially off the deck. Give that player a 4 wood or 5 wood and watch them carry it further than any 3 wood they’ve tried to hit.

@Nateyeight is your 3 wood adjustable? Adding a little more loft can help, IMO.
I didn’t like my 3 wood until I was without a driver for awhile and was forced to use it. Can you hit it well off a tee?

Interesting idea.  Based on my attitude as an engineer, the best way to do this would be to establish some kind of grid, and take "readings" of both slope amount and direction at each node of the grid.  This would be interesting but tedious, and would require some pretty lengthy uninterrupted access to each green.  I wonder if anyone has attempted to do this on their own, and what level of detail they were able to accomplish.  If you do go this route, you should be aware that your personal green map is limited to the same size and scale as the commercial maps.
You're right, to putt well you need all three components to work.  There are three basic elements to putting, as you say, hitting the right line, achieving the right speed, and having the right read.  They are all interrelated, which makes things tougher.  But if you can "master" one of the three, I believe you're ahead of the game.  If you KNOW you have the right read, and you can see that you've achieved the right speed, you can evaluate your ability to hit the intended line.  To me, having confidence in the read relieves any of the potential paralysis.  And as one who has used Aimpoint for a few years, I think I read putts as fast or faster than most anyone I play with.  No looking from multiple angles, , no walking to the other side of the hole, no plumb-bobbing, just a stop or two for a second while walking to the hole and back.
Reading putts is a skill, just like hitting your intended line, just like speed control is.  Each one is improved by different types of practice.  I'd never tell anyone to omit practice for distance control, and I'd never tell anyone to omit improvement of their green-reading skills.

Startline, pace, and green reading are all skills that need to be learned and practiced. You don’t need a putter to learn green reading; using a device like the perfect putter helps you check what you are seeing and understand/see that there are multiple reads for every putt. Stroke and face control are important when you are playing to help determine if you misread the putt or made a bad stroke.

Aimpoint express is just another technique/tool that a player can use and it can benefit any player as it helps to validate what you are seeing.

Lots of individual pieces that can be done in multiple orders.

Don't be too hard on yourself, celebrate the good shots, and develop a short memory for the bad ones.

Absolutely. Pay for the fitting and find another outlet to order the clubs. The fittings are pretty solid and you don't have to purchase the clubs from them. They email you the results and fitting prescription

If you can have anything you want golf related what would it be? Ok let's qualify... You can't have an extension put on your house with a 30 thousand dollar simulator and a bar.
You are limited to a maximum of $500.00. What would you like to see under the tree Christmas morning. For those not Christian pick an occasion. I'll have to think on this one a while myself. My wife asked what could she get me for Christmas and then putting this post out came to mind. Maybe you guys & gals will give me an idea. Who knows, if your significant other reads this thread maybe you will get what you want.  Your Welcome!

Hey guys, fairly new guy here and am joining the WITB bandwagon.  I played pretty regularly (and poorly at that) about 20 years ago and took time off to raise a family, but now the kids have flown the coup and I started back up again about 3 months ago.  Still had my 25 year old clubs, but wanted to come into this century so bought some used Adams off FB Marketplace to get started and went at it with private lessons and 4-5 days at the range.  Well, that was all well and good for about 2 months but they just weren't going to do the trick, length, weight, flex all WRONG.  Decided to go to local guy here in Albuquerque, The Golfmiester, and got fitted for a new set of clubs
Wishon 771csi's Single Length Irons (7-AW) with Velyix Alpina 673 Shafts (the 7i is 1/2" longer than the rest of the set - worked out better that way)
Acer 7w/11w Combo with LAGP Reign Silver Shafts
American Open Sand Wedge bent to 55*
Top Flight Wedge bent to 58*
Ray Cook Putter - Had a Classic II from the past and really liked it, so I upgraded myself to the one in the pictures.
Callaway FTi -I'll still hit my this until the $$ vein can replenish itself over the winter months
I am doing a test run with Patriot Golf and will be using their Driver, and 3-5-9w.  We'll see if those make it into the bag.
Looking forward to advice and camaraderie with fellow enthusiasts.

I’m by nature entirely too competitive, so until I break par consistently I will not be satisfied. That being said, I make note of positives from every round. It’s easy to beat myself up over the bad shots but it’s the good ones that keep you going back. What did I do well in hitting that approach shot? How do I replicate the physical and mental approach of that moment to get more consistent? To me, that’s just fun.
I was just talking to a former golfer who is playing D1 golf about this yesterday. He said it perfectly. “No one makes it to the next level unless they fall in love with the process.” Find your joy in improving, grab it by the reins, and run with it. If you’re not having fun you’re doing it wrong.

I had been gaming my prior set for 7 years, of clubs cobbled together as I could afford them (during and immediately after college).

With 2020 cancelling travel plans, part of that budget was shifted to a complete new fitted bag! Got fitted by a friend who is now a pro at GolfTec, and ended up with a different set than what I would have bought on my own - was leaning towards TM woods/Mizuno irons/Vokeys, but got better dispersion and launch numbers from the Mav Sub Zeros and Pros.

I don't hit the ball very far so I use the 3 wood on the long 200 yard par 3's, gets me pretty close each time. Always handy to have, especially if your driver isn't working that day, you can always switch it with the 3W for more consistency.
