  1. My sister got married last weekend they are on their honeymoon, currently in Ireland. She just sent this picture in the family WhatsApp of her hanging out at the clubhouse while my brother-in-law plays Ballybunion. I'm so jealous right now...
  2. I had the same thing on the PNW Spy trip to Eastern Washington. My average drive during my time there was 40 yards longer than at any point earlier in the season. I feel like half the drives I've hit on the west side so far this year have had a negative rollout.
  3. I mean, not following the rules is a good way to make sure you don't win a second
  4. My father-in-law would disagree with you with his 64-degree wedge, but first he has to walk back and forth across the green a few times. Seriously though it is painful to watch him pull that club and take a full swing 40 yards from the green. At some point I might just "help" him "lose" the club, would probably save him a few strokes a round. I think for higher handicap players though you will definitely end up with players with an aggressive transition playing full shots with a 56 or 58 degree wedge who may decide that Ping wedges don't work well for them based on the default shaft. I agree though that you have to target the largest subset of your purchasing demographic, and this is likely a good fit. I haven't used it myself, but have read that it's similar to the KBS Hi Rev 2.0, which I absolutely love (although I play it in a 125).
  5. FYI I've seen tutorials online for disassembling the sensors and replacing the batteries, so you might not be SOL after they die if you want to avoid a subscription payment.
  6. I imagine some of them will be able to work on their personal branding stuff more. I saw that Bryson had his entire content team following him around during the tournament in Portland, something that the PGA never let him do, so I imagine he'll be releasing a YouTube video at some point that goes behind-the-ropes with him.
  7. Off to a good start so far - managed to get up and down for par from 90 yards the other day on the first hole, which was the only one I didn't check off last year.
  8. Followed up a bad drive with a chunked hybrid, and was left with 160 yards in with trees in the way. Had a gap in the trees off to the right, so went for the huge slinger draw and actually managed to pull it off (my standard shot shape is a fade/cut). Started 40 yards right of the pin and came all the way around to hit the right side of the green. Even managed to drain the 20-foot downhill putt for my only birdie of the round!
  9. Haha yeah I've heard two f-bombs from Wolff's caddie, and the one was really obvious - "that thing came out really f-ing flat!". Commentators noted it but didn't apologize for it at all (fine by me, just used to tv broadcasts where they right away apologize for any profanity). I really enjoyed the quick segment with DJ from Troy Mullins - a chat about his equipment, shaft weights and swing weights, 9-wood vs 3-iron, etc.
  10. https://beta.2ndswing.com/golf-clubs/drivers?g2_brand=Titleist&g2_model=TS3&g2_dexterity=Left+Handed Link is for drivers, but it looks like fairway woods and hybrids have the same pricing. A great deal, just the wrong side of the ball for me
  11. I had an absolute blast on the trip! Didn't take many pictures, but have plenty of great memories! Round 1 - Apple Tree GC, Yakima WA Apple Tree was a great start to the trip. @Kieran was looking like he might break 90 for the first time ever, starting off the round with par on the first 3 holes, but unfortunately fell just shy of that mark. My scorecard was a collection of circles and squares - 3 birdies (a personal best), 4 pars, 6 bogeys, 4 doubles, and a snowman for an 87. Kieran on the 17th tee. In defense of him, @fixyurdivot, and I, there was a tournament coming through after us with a $10k HIO prize, so they had moved the white tees all the way back to the tips (~185 yards). On the bright side, even though we all missed the green, we were close enough that the splash from our balls did hit the green. Martha was unimpressed that @Kenny B's tee was in front of hers, but they both managed to hit the green.IMG_4391.MOV Round 2 - Sun Willows, Pasco WA Kieran and I joined @Thin2win for an evening round at Sun Willows. I don't know that I've ever played 36 holes in a single day, and it was catching up with me on the back 9 - a lot of drives blocked out right, and a lot of putts coming up short. We were moving pretty quick (Arccos says our pace of play was 2:55) so I didn't take any pictures. As we were adding up the scores in the parking lot, we realized that Kieran's 4-footer that lipped out on 18 was for an 89 - instead for the third time he matched his personal best score of 90. I managed to beat my little younger brother again, this time by just 1 stroke. Round 3 - Canyon Lakes GC, Kennewick WA Again, no photos from me here - one of the benefits of playing with the Arccos Caddie Link is that I can leave my phone in the cart for the most part, but the side effect is that I rarely have it handy to take a quick picture. Kieran had to leave after the front nine and head back home for a friends wedding, so Chris dropped off his OneWheel at that point and joined me in the cart for the back nine, where we had a great time nerding out about golf balls, shafts, spin numbers, course management, and all other kinds of golf topics. I was striking the ball decently well and managed to hit 8 fairways, 9 GIRs, and 3 up-and-downs. Unfortunately what Chris likely remembers most about the round is my 5 3-putts, but my final score of 85 was still my best for the week. Round 4 - Pasco Golfland, Pasco WA After Canyon Lakes, Bill, Chris, and I grabbed some lunch and then headed over to a surprisingly nice 9-hole par 3 course next to the airport in Pasco. The notable highlight for me was the 171-yard 6th hole, where my 8-iron tee shot rolled just past the pin and settled inside of 3 feet. I think that's the KP benchmark for @DiscipleofPenick and the rest of the Ohio crew to beat when they get together! Round 5 - Wine Valley GC, Walla Walla WA My last round of the trip was at the course I enjoyed the most - Wine Valley. The total absence of trees and significant structures (other than the club house) made aiming off the tee difficult at times, but the course style and conditions made for an amazing experience. It helped that I was hitting my driver and fairway woods well - I was averaging 265 yards with my driver (long of 291) and on 3 of the par 5 holes I was on or next to the green in 2. Unfortunately I carded a 9 on the 15th hole after struggling with some knee-deep fescue and deep bunkers (which are more like waste areas - they use the natural clay-silt soil instead of sand) and finished the round with an 86. Here's Josh with an approach shot after a great drive on one of the par 4s: IMG_4398.MOV And Tiffany with a tee shot on a par 3: And I would be remiss if, after all the pre-trip talk about eagles (or the lack thereof), I didn't give you all the eagle watch update. Surprisingly to me, over the 3 days that I played I had 4 looks at eagle, but unfortunately I still have yet to capture the majestic bird. One lip-out, two more in tap-in range, and a 66-footer that rolled past but never really had a chance. So for now, my profile picture remains the same and the hunt continues!
  12. 3 days to go, so here's a look at one of the most recognizable par 3 holes in the world: the 17th hole at Apple Tree!
  13. We'll have to have a slice-off on the widest fairway - we'll both aim at the left edge of the fairway and see who can get the ball the farthest into the rough to the right
  14. I guess that means it's up to me to drink enough for both of us
  15. PNW Spy Meetup is in a week - what things are must-haves for golf trips?
  16. I'm a big fan of my Dakine No Zone bucket hat. Not quite as much brim as what @chisag is rocking, but it has enough for me. Stiffer brim in the front and back and softer on the sides, along with the mesh back for venting, makes it work great for me.
  17. 7 days to go - here's a look at the punchbowl 7th green at Wine Valley, protected by an imposing set of bunkers short and long of the green.
  18. If we can convince the folks who run the MGS Instagram to post it up there, we should have no problem hitting that benchmark. Not sure if it would be worth it for the social media manager to deal with all the confusion for an inside joke that only a few dozen people would get though.
  19. Struggled a bit with ball striking, and rainy, soggy conditions exasperated my issues. Green speed varied by about 2, and at one point mid-transition my foot sank an inch into the ground just off the fairway. On the bright side, at least I’m getting all the bad shots out of my system before the PNW Spy meet.
  20. My career low of an 80 included a 9 on the card. Still haven't broken into the 70s. Also, I'm having a hard time finding sympathy for a round where you got an eagle...
  21. I've actually never played it, I'm just so excited about this trip that I've been nerding out on the courses we're going to hit
  22. It's both, technically. 9th hole pin on the left, 18th hole pin on the right.
  23. With 9 days until the first round, here's a look at the 9th hole at Apple Tree!
  24. I will admit that I'm soured on Shipnuck after his hypocrisy about covid in 2020 and some of the resulting back-and-forth with both fans and tour pros on Twitter, so there is some bias in my takes.
