furu
But is Couples a different type? Make Phil Mickelson captain now. No need to wait. He's done playing RC.

furu
"Everyone likes him". Is that the role of the captain? Isn't it about knowing RC, picking the right players and using them the best way possible? Europe has a completely different way of looking at ther captains. If the USA continues to try picking a captain everyone likes, Europe will beat them every time.
silver & black
He'd be a great choice. Phil would be too.
westy
It's not about being liked, it's about being respected. I'd have thought they'd respect him - wouldn't they? Kenny B
I think Freddy would be a great captain, but I don't think the captain is going to determine the outcome of the Ryder Cup. Sure, you can play for the captain, but isn't it enough that you are playing for your country? The bottom line is, get over yourself and play better. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
westy
Fair point kenny, although I'd suggest the right captain comes into his own when things are going wrong - to help lift a team or try something new. mbrodeur86
The Americans sound to me like their's too much ego going on. Freddy's a laid back guy and would probably just tell them to shut up and go play. Weren't they pushing for Paul Azinger?
