DiscipleofPenick
Did anyone else see this YouTube video posted yesterday? Golf Digest took Bubba Watson to a 6100 yard country club in Arizona. They refer to it as a muni, but it's not. Also that designation isn't important. I think what is important is, this answers a question about "What would a pro shoot at our course?" debate. Check it out if you want. Spoiler: He shot a 62, with 2 bogeys. I've felt this is in the realm of a low round for a pro on our courses. Especially from the whites, they are going to reach all the par 5s in 2, so they are at 68 or 67 in a blink. They will probably have a few more birdies just by virtue of the sub-350 yard par 4s. If they nail the speed of the greens, a low 60s rounds like this is unsurprising to me. Check it out and have fun. edingc, thechrisgibbs, GolfSpy_SHARK and 2 others 5 Quote Take Dead Aim Driver: PXG 0211 10.5* Fairway: Titleist 917 F3 15* Hybrid: Adams Idea Pro Boxer Gold 18* Irons: MacGregor MT-86 Pro Wedges: Vokey 50/54/58 Putter: SeeMore X2 Costa del Mar Ball: Srixon Z-Star
russtopherb
I watched it yesterday as it interestingly popped up in my feed as I was about halfway through reading the article in the print magazine. I thought it was a pretty cool event, and apparently they'll be bringing Bubba to a number of public courses soon and then posting his scores, drive distances, etc. and having a contest where us regular folks can try and beat his stats. You're right in it's not a muni, but it is a public course, so anyone can get on and play. thechrisgibbs
I gotta say though, 6200 is definitely playing form the whites at most of the public courses in Utah. From the tips, it's almost always around 6800+. With that said, he would still dominate the courses from 7K yards here. The elevation plus the wide fairways would make it impossible for him not to score low. fixyurdivot and DiscipleofPenick 2 Quote Driver: Stealth 8* turned down to 6* X-Stiff, Graphite Design Tour AD XC-6 3 Wood: Sim 14* X-Stiff, Aldila Rogue Silver 2 Iron/2 Hybrid: Mizuno MP-20 HMB, Graphite Design Tour AD; Forged Tec set to 17* X-Stiff, Catalyst 6.0 P-4 Irons: MP20, Dynamic Gold X100 Wedges: Vokey SM9 50 degree 08F, 56 degree 08M and 60 degree 08M My Putter: B.2, LA Golf Shaft Ball: AVX 5.3 Handicapped; Right Hander; from Salt Lake City, Utah

I think anything under 350 he's basically pitching it in there close. thechrisgibbs 1 Quote Take Dead Aim Driver: PXG 0211 10.5* Fairway: Titleist 917 F3 15* Hybrid: Adams Idea Pro Boxer Gold 18* Irons: MacGregor MT-86 Pro Wedges: Vokey 50/54/58 Putter: SeeMore X2 Costa del Mar Ball: Srixon Z-Star

And distance would be the normal white tees here in NE Ohio. There's probably less than a handful over 7k and I'd say on average most courses top out at 66-6700. I don't think that yardage would effect Bubba's score. thechrisgibbs 1 Quote Take Dead Aim Driver: PXG 0211 10.5* Fairway: Titleist 917 F3 15* Hybrid: Adams Idea Pro Boxer Gold 18* Irons: MacGregor MT-86 Pro Wedges: Vokey 50/54/58 Putter: SeeMore X2 Costa del Mar Ball: Srixon Z-Star

The more I look at his swing the more I like him simply for being more like us, way less than perfect swing mechanic, amateurs. I's still love to see a shot by shot distance breakdown... 6100 yards must have felt like an executive course to him. This could actually make a pretty entertaining TV series... pros taking on some not so well known muni's. BMart519
Distance doesn't matter on these courses, they could be 6000 or 6800 (see TPC Craig Ranch scoring for the Byron Nelson). There is no penalty for hitting it into the rough compared to PGA Tour conditions and the approaches will be easier on softer greens. I am looking forward to the numbers he puts up. There's lots of speculation that PGA players are around +5 - +8 handicaps but most courses play 5-10 shots tougher than normal when setup for a tour event which isn't reflected in the course rating. I doubt he puts up anything higher than a 64.
