Bucky CC
It's currently 30° and snowing here in Wisconsin, but that didn't stop my golf course from being in the news this morning. A plane carrying 3 people and 56 rescue dogs crash landed on the course this morning. Thankfully all humans and canines escaped with only minor injuries. One story mentioned over 300 gallons of jet fuel being spilled, but it sounds like most of it evaporated quickly and the rest settled into a low area where the ground was frozen. Here's the news story from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. A plane with multiple people and over 50 dogs crashed onto the Western Lakes Golf Club in Pewaukee Tuesday morning. Lake Country Fire & Rescue responded to a call of a downed aircraft around 9:04 a.m., according to Assistant Chief Matthew Haerter. The first unit arrived five minutes later to find a twin engine plane on the third hole. The course is at W287 N1963 Oakton Road. Haerter said the plane crashed onto the course, hit a section of trees, lost its wings and spilled fuel as it slid across a water feature on the course and came to rest in another section of trees and snow. The plane was reportedly flying from New Orleans to Waukesha to deliver 56 dogs to the Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha. Three adults were also on the plane and were assessed and treated at the scene before being taken to a local trauma center with non-life-threatening injuries. Some of the 56 dogs sustained injuries but their conditions were not given. Because HAWS was preparing to receive the dogs at the Waukesha County airport, they were quickly on scene to collect the dogs, and they are being treated at HAWS. The Department of Natural Resources and the Waukesha County Hazmat are on the scene assessing the extent of the fuel spill because it involves a wetland area. No other information was available Tuesday morning on the extent of the spill, but there is not believed to be any danger to the community at this time. Additionally, Haerter praised the efforts of the golf club staff who reported the crash and assisted the passengers on the plane and first responders upon arrival. It is unclear what caused the plane to go down. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident. Bucky CC
Golf Digest picked up on the story as well. It's probably the only time our average little public course will ever make a national golf publication. https://www.golfdigest.com/story/plane-crash-lands-wisconsin-western-lakes-golf-course-three-people-53-dogs-safe Crazy to think that this time last week it was 70° and there were 200 golfers on the course. Things could have been much worse if this would have happened then.
