fixyurdivot
Clean them all the time but have never sharpened. Is it worth buying a good carbide tool or better to have them done by a shop? Preeway
I bought one of these this summer. Golf Club Groove Sharpener, Golf Club Cleaner and Iron Wedge Groove Sharpener Tool with 6 Carbide Tungsten Steel Cutters, Golf Club Re-Grooving Cleaning Tool 6-Tip, Golf Accessory https://a.co/d/3wpzUuE I can’t tell you for certain if it works well or makes things worse. I used it on some used wedges I passed down to my son and they did seem to work better with regards to spin. fixyurdivot 1 Quote Driver: Aerojet LS, Ventus Blue Shaft - 6S 4 Wood: Rogue ST Max 16.5, Tensei White Shaft - 7S Utility Iron: Fli Hi 3-iron, HAZARDOUS Smoke Black Shaft - S Irons: JPX 921 Tour 4-P, Project X Shafts - Stiff 125g Wedges: 52º, 56º, 60º Putter: Ai-One 7 T CH, 34" Preferred Ball: Z-Star Diamond Pushcart: Nitron Rangefinder: Tour V5 Shift
Siamese Moose
I do them myself, and I think it's worth it. My instructor insisted that I do it, and he proved to be right. In his case, there's a particular Callaway wedge he loves that was discontinued. He bought an extra that he uses only for tournament play, and uses his original for daily play. Since he sharpens the original, there's a chance the grooves are now non-conforming, and having the second wedge avoids any possible issue. (Unfortunately, in the southern Ohio PGA section there are a couple of guys who routinely accuse people in tournaments of having non-conforming clubs. When that happens the club gets confiscated and sent to PGA headquarters for testing. It usually doesn't come back for 2 to 3 months. As far as I know, no non-conforming club has ever been found.) storm319
If you are concerned with maintaining conformance, avoid any sharpening tool. The reality is to make any noticeable difference, you will invariably end up removing some material making the groove larger and risk either exceeding the volume limit or groove gap minimum.
