NGage Posted April 2, 2010 Share Posted April 2, 2010 was it effective? That was actually the effective way to putt back in those days. Back then, the grass on the greens was longer and it took more of a hit or pop to get the ball going. The thought back then was to set your hands in position, keep them and your head still, and hit the ball with a wristy pop/stroke. Putters had more loft, and this technique (with that loft) supposedly kept the ball more on the surface of the grass and not down in the grain so much. At least that's what I've heard.
