iron lies

Simple question -

 

If the lie of my wedges and irons is too upright will I tend to pull or push the shot?  I'm guessing pull but am curious.

Thanks - makes sense - I have a friend who can't hit the ball straight with his irons to save his life - I'm convinced it's not just his swing and not only that I'm convinced that it's ruining his swing - such as it is.

Pull.  I went through a similar thing a year or so ago.

What a great thread!  Thanks BK - I was wondering how I could have missed it and then I realized that it was because I was down with pneumonia at the time.

 

Frank Thomas tends to be a minimalist when it comes to certain aspects of fitting but lie angle is a huge one for him - I think the wrong lie angle can lead to all kinds of issues and I think it's doing my friend in.  That and course management but we're working hard on that one this off season. 

 

I sent him to a fitter a year ago and he hits the clubs that he purchased there very well but he had to go and order a set of rocket blades on ebay.  Of coure there's nothing wrong with the clubs just that they dont' fit him.  His last set of irons was a set of Ping proline irons with tour stiff shafts - I think they were 59's, something like that, beautiful clubs for a guy on a mini-tour - my friend is a 28.

Went to the range today and brought an off the rack gap wedge that I have lying around the house with. I'm swinging great right now. Haven't been playing just puting my game back together bit by bit.

 

At any rate after hitting 5 consecutive 9 irons within 10 feet left to right of my target I grabbed the wedge. Sure enough solid, great ball flight 25 feet left three swings in a row. I need my irons 2 degrees flat. Perfect illustration. I was doing nothing wrong it was the club. I know it's that way for my friend.

I had the same problem with my old set. They were too upright for me causing my left misses to become much worse.
