Fireinthehole
Hello all, I got fitted into KBS C-tapers X flex 130grams. I think I read that KBS even suggests soft stepping the X if you get fitted into them. I am able to hit them fine, they don't feel like "Rebar", but I am finding it harder to hit a fade with them. Might be me, but worth looking into it. I have 5I-PW, there are some things I found online, but have been slightly confusing. Also tried to contact KBS, but no reply yet. *On a side note, would it be a terrible Idea to put them in wedges? My Mixed-Bag: Driver: Mavrik Sub zero, ventus black 7x Fairway: Still looking! hckymeyer
I play the S+ and have them through my entire set 6i-58°. Personally I really like them in my wedges, keeps the same feel throughout the entire set and I'm a fairly high spin player so no issues with not getting enough spin on wedge shots with them. Not entirely sure what you are asking in your post though. Are you wondering how to soft step them? Or if soft stepping them will help with hitting fades? BK in TEXAS
Soft-stepping them will just make them a bit softer. I don't think it will help you hit a fade. Baseballfrk8998
Soft stepping will help a bit as far as workability goes. As a result of soft stepping, your shots will spin just a bit more and, in theory, should be more workable. With that being said, soft stepping them 1x may not make a noticeable difference at all. In theory it should, but it likely won't be a huge change.
Mr_Theoo
I have c-tapers soft stepped in my wedges and love the way they play. Others who've tried them say it feels like rebar though. GolfSpy Barbajo
I'm playing C Tapers as well - not hard or soft stepped, just stiff. Have them all the way thru 60* wedge...as hckeymeyer suggests - consistent feel throughout What's in the bag: Driver: TSR3; DynaPWR Carbon FW Wood: DynaPWR 3-wood; TSR 2+ Hybrids: PXG Gen4 18-degree Utility Irons: ZX MkII 20* Irons:; 699/699 Pro V2 Combo; D9 Forged; MT86 (coming soon!); VIP 1025 V-Foil MB/CB; Wedges: RTX6 Zipcore Putter: HB Soft Milled 10.5; Newport Special Select; Willamette, BB8; 8802; MATI Monto Ball: Tour B RXS; Z-STAR Diamond; Triad Stat Tracker/GPS Watch: Follow @golfspybarbajo
Fireinthehole
Ok thanks for the feedback! I wanted to know what I would have to do to soft step them. Does that mean I get a 4I shaft installed in the 5. and proceed from there so that the wedges have the 9i shaft in them? Even if I decide not to soft step the irons, I'd like to have the same shaft in the wedges for weight consistency My Mixed-Bag: Driver: Mavrik Sub zero, ventus black 7x Fairway: Still looking! Soft stepping is putting the 4 iron shaft in the 5, 7 iron shaft in the 8, etc. If you don't trim the shafts, you'll also end up with your clubs being 1/2" longer after you SS them, but I'm sure you'd already figured this much out. hckymeyer
The nice thing about soft stepping is you really only need to buy one shaft for your longest iron, then just move each one down an iron. One thing to note, the wedge shafts are all the same. PW is the last shaft they sell, but that can be used for all wedges and then just butt cut to your desired playing length. So if you want all C-Tapers you would need a 4i shaft and then two wedge shafts. For the wedges you have a couple options. You can just get the X flex wedge shafts and install them, if you want to keep the same soft step through the wedges get 9i shafts. If you want a softer feel for partial shots you could also go with x flex 8i shafts which would essentially soft step them twice for the wedges. Or you could go to S+ flex for the wedges. It all just comes down to feel and how you want them to play. Personally for my current set I've just went with the S+ all the way through, I didn't soft step the wedges at all. I've done 8i shafts in the past, but I really didn't notice a huge difference. Driver: SLDR w/ Fujikura Ventus Black 3w: '16 M2 hl w/ Diamana D+ 82 5w: Launcher HB w/ HZRDUS Yellow Hybrid: 22 deg.
