Got to sneak in 9 holes at Diamond Ridge on Saturday: figured Sunday was an absolute no go with Mother's Day, and I was right! I was presented my honey do list prior to my Saturday round, so definitely wanted to get in a round. So I went in with the dawn patrol at Diamond Ridge, and it was, unlike the rest of the week, a very nice, albeit humid morning.
Played the back 9, which starts with a water hole.

It's one of those holes where I want to tee off with a "found" ball as I have a propensity to find the pond about 25% of the time. Not Saturday morning! Plopped it right up on the green, but alas, 3 putted the thing. Still getting used to the DF3, this was my first "official" round with it. Overall, VERY happy with the round as it was a new PB for me, so no complaints overall! Save a few errant iron shots I can't complain: things seem to be slowly, but surely, coming together.

Was able to get to the putting green afterwards to work with the Black Mamba: it is a different feel from the TM Spider for sure. Will the DF3 replace the Spider in the bag? That remains to be seen, but from that first round with it, it feels "right." I understand now the "thumbless" approach with L.A.B.: light pressure and let the club do the work! As I compile more numbers with the DF3 I will share them in the L.A.B. DF3 thread.

I hope that golf figures into your plans for today! Hit 'em straight MGS Nation! 🏌🏼   ⛳

Played my usual 9 holes last week on Friday. The course was dryer than expected after the flooding experienced on Wednesday night into Thursday morning, but the wind was a different story. Seems as though only a couple of times out this year the wind hasn’t been a major factor.
A couple of loose shots on par 5s resulted in bogeys and not getting putts to the hole, otherwise a good round.

I went from a 6 handicap to a little better than scratch in about 6 months.
This is what changed for me:
Playing with and paying attention to better players and realizing its not how many birdies they make but how many bogeys they don't make. Learning how and where to miss and how to play.  Moving back a tee box. I hit it plenty far so moving back a tee box didn't make it that much tougher but it made it to where I don't have to shoot 69 to get scratch but can instead shoot low/mid 70s. Realizing that I shouldn't be hitting at pins to make birdies but hitting to the middle of greens and making 20 footers for birdies.  Realizing I needed to never make double and making 4 less bogeys per round. Its all short game.  Learning how to focus a lot more. Learning how to slip into and out of golf mode and having fun mode. You can have fun and grind a round out basically.  Teaching my son how to practice and play and realizing I cant hold him accountable if I don't do the same for myself.

When I was a kid I quickly became a bogey golfer before I started high school. Problem was I stagnated there for several years. It wasn’t until I got a job at a golf course and the head pro told me to spend less time on the range and more time on the putting/chipping green. A good and consistent swing will only take you so far. If you want to break 80 then you have to learn how to score. If you are currently struggling to break 90 then get lessons and focus on improving your swing so you can keep the ball in play and in better positions.

Played Saturday and it was blah.. drove the ball well but I struggled with the approached and speed of the greens, they were sneaky fast, hard to judge speed or wedges, some check some release.. it was frustrating. Oh well stupid golf.  At least it wasn't raining, tired of rain.

Maybe this weekend it will come be better.

I got the chance to play a couple of different courses out in Palm Springs over the weekend (Eagle Falls and Indian Canyons South - I highly recommend both!).
I had a very close miss for what would have been my first hole in one on the 165yd 15th hole. The pin was in a little hollow just over the saddle of the green, and I remarked to my playing partner that it would be just my luck to get my first ever HIO on a hole where you couldn't see the ball go into the cup. Stepped up, and absolutely nailed a 6 iron right at the stick. It was great hole design in that there's a banked bunker between the cart path and the putting surface, so as you drive up you can't see where your ball ended up until the last possible second.
Sadly this time it was close, but no cigar, but it's always nice to have a tap in birdie.

played in the A/B/C/D tournament at my course where I'm a social member and they didn't do me any favors but I suppose as a 'social' I'm kind of a 3rd world citizen there...
I played with 2 super seniors who - playing from the gold - couldn't hit it more than 175 yards but usually you can count on them for chipping and putting... but not in this case. I'm not sure what qualifies as a "C" or "D" player but I'm guessing that their HC were in the 25 range.
I was cold, much colder than expected, and the wind seemed to be in our face on a number of holes. We finished middle of the pack (-12) and the winners were -20 (of course)...
There were 4 CTP... 2 on par 3s and 2 on your second shot on par 4s <ed: what??? why???>
Anyway - I stuck it super tight on a 198 yard par 3. You hit across the road (tee box left of the trees)... kinda glad I didn't make it, there were about 100 people in the tournament and that would have been a fortune in the clubhouse, lol.
Didn't know how close it came until we got up there because I couldn't see it due to the slope of the green... and just my luck, this was NOT one of the CTP holes. 🤦‍♂️

Vicariously living through all of you at the moment. We just had 7 inches of rain in one day and all the golf courses are flooded for the weekend. Of course, I had two tee times this week (today and Sunday) and now I have to move them. Hoping the courses dry out, but we have more rain next week.

Well, the center of my club faces got a break yesterday.. After shooting a 54 on the front 9, I didn't even keep track on the back 9..Had a young man with me who only started 6 months ago and he had the round of his life, so I did thoroughly enjoy watching him play and fall in love with the game

Played 9 holes at my local course on Tuesday evening and shot a 39! Overall, I played lights out and have never hit every club in my bag so well. Had 1 bad hole where I lost my ball... in the rough! Thinking a gopher took my ball and ended up with a triple on that hole. Also, I nearly had a hole-in-one on an 181-yard par 3! Ended up about 14 inches short of the hole. Thoroughly enjoyed my outing and hope to have many more of those kind of days!

Golf is so dang bipolar! Shot a record low yesterday, went out earlier to play a few holes behind the house. Went +3 on 4 holes lol! Dumb sport, can't wait to play again!
On another note, super stroke dropped this beaut earlier. Since I can't make it to Vahalla next week(regret not getting tickets), I ordered the grip. My Ping putter has a 23+yr old grip so it'll be a nice upgrade.

I did not have the same game I had last week... and yet, I managed to scramble around and still found myself within striking distance of Par after the 13th hole.  Then I promptly forgot what I was doing and tripled the 14th and bogeyed the 15th.  Left my birdie putt in the jaws on 16 and made par, brushed the edge to save par on 17 and made bogey, finally lipping out my 17.5 foot hail mary birdie putt to stay under 80 and making par instead.  Another multi birdie day with, lots of up and downs, hit and miss driver play, and cagey approach to cover a shaky feeling iron swing.  Happy to have a good day when I wasn't feeling like my swing was at its best.
