Tough scene!  You hate to see it.  I would always prefer to see the players decide the match, not the bonehead decisions of a caddie.

Given the caddie is a local, does he have the balls to walk back into the Bandon caddie shack after this?  Does Mike Keiser fire him for this embarrassment?  Especially considering the guy lied about touching the sand and has since, doubled down on the lie!?!?!

Tyler Strafaci won the North & South Amateur last month in Pinehurst.  He's been on a heater all summer.

Edit to add:  Strafaci's dad didn't come away from the broadcast looking very good either.  He should have stayed back, observed and allowed the officials to do their jobs rather than pace back in forth in an animated manner mouthing off like he did.

Well doubling down on not touching the sand is an effort to save his job at BD.  But in the overhead shot you can clearly see the color of the sand change from light to darker where he brushed it and then a later close up clearly shows the brush marks as well.  As a caddie at the resort, maybe this is a regular practice for him when he's caddying for guests (it shouldn't be) and he just lost situational awareness for a moment.  A shame for everyone involved.

  2. I use the MG Elite for a good part of the year here in the Houston area.  Oddly, when I lived in CA I tried that glove and hated it.  In the drier conditions in CA that glove would tear quickly, well before I would consider it worn out.  But in the Houston area, with the humidity,  I find that glove becomes saturated and I'll want to change it out before it tears.  And it doesn't become saturated any faster than a higher priced glove so in that regard it becomes a good value.  I buy about 20 at a time.

    Long time wrx member here.

They mishandled forum migration big a$$ time. And the Mods attitude was 'we don't care what you think, we only want the BST cash-cow'

I'm done with them and so will be many many members.

I've been a member over there since 2016 (under a different nom de plume).  Agree on the migration issue - its been a disaster.  But as far as the BST is concerned (and I've only done 2 transactions and was the buyer both times) it has completely fallen off a cliff because when they made the migration they lost the feedback system.  So between that and the pay to play scheme they have going over there its become a completely untrustworthy place to do business.

They also have one forum sponsor who's business practices and customer service are some of the worst around judging from the horror stories posted in the DoND sub forum.  Yet the mgmt there doesn't seem to care they have a forum sponsor who is basically abusing their membership.

And lastly - and this is the part that p*sses me off the most - the mods there have gotten a hair trigger there using the "jail" feature in the vanilla forum software (yes I know they are migrating back to their previous platform) which is a sort of soft ban where a member can only reply to topics but not start new ones.  And they are doing it for things I wouldn't even consider offenses.  And not just newbies either, but some long time forum members who generally know how to behave themselves.  But we all find ourselves in disagreements at times with others but its created an atmosphere where you kind of feel like you're walking on eggshells.

That said I'll continue to be a member there.  There are some incredibly knowledgable folks there in all areas and some genuinely good debate does take place at times.  But with the switch back to the previous forum software I hope they also incorporate some needed administrative changes as well.

  4. I have both a Windy City and Bucktown.  For the price you really can't go wrong.  Personally I really like the grip on these models - its one of the best things about them IMO.  The size and shape fits me well and helps keep hands quiet.  However, the entire line is counterbalanced.  If you're not into that then you probably aren't going to like them.  Myself, I have a love/hate relationship w/counterbalanced putters.  Currently in a hate stage so both of them are sidelined for now.  If you've never tried a counterbalanced putter AND distance control on longer putts is a problem for you then you might consider trying one.  I find that to be one of the best things about countebalancing for me in that it helps greatly on longer and lag putts.  When I start to struggle w/counterbalance its when I start getting closer to the hole.

  5. Point taken, but I never said theirs was the best. Unlike the OP, who's premise suggests that Miura are the best in the business. Whatever.

A subjective opinion needn't be absolute.  Saying Miura irons are better than 90% of all other irons is no more or less subjective than saying they are the best.  Either way, whether you or I agree w/the OP I'm sure the marketing dept. at Miura is delighted.

  6. What makes you think they're the "best in the business"? Because someone else told you they were?

Their irons are probably sold more on reputation rather than actual playability. The same could be said for Rolex watches or Rolls Royce cars - great products but are they any better than anything else for their purpose?

The putter thing is probably the same. The irons have a reputation, the putters don't. Likewise, Jack Daniels make great whiskey but their barbecue sauce sucks.

There's no reason for any product to fit with consumer recognition or "loyalty" based on the name or product awareness alone, but if Miura made shaving cream, then some schmuck would buy it based on their perception of the marque.

You argue against someone's subjective opinion by offering two of your own.  And as far as Tennessee whiskey goes, George Dickel is far superior to Jack Daniels, IMO.

  7. Checked another handmade putter of my list this morning. I had some shop credit to use from a tournament I won and pickings were slim at the shop, except for a Bobby Grace handmade. Had $200 in credit so I plunked down another $100 to take it home. It is a handmade Artists series with a short weld neck and deep milling. Getting ready to play nine with my son and going to give it a roll. Can post some pictures tonight if anyone is interested in it.

    Damn right.

  8. Just ordered the Wilson Staff PMP wedges in 50/54/58 to have in reserve until my previous generation FG Tour wedges wear out.  The 54 and 58 will have the Tour Grind sole that my current ones have.  These wedges are the most versatile I've had since the old circa 2008 Cleveland DSG wedges.  The Tour Grind sole is a really nice feature.  On the heads other than the graphics change and some minor bounce tweaking I don't see a lot of difference between teh PMP's and the FGTours I currently have.  I think the biggest change will be the switch from the TT wedge flex shaft to the KBS Hi-rev wedge shaft.

  9. So I think that I created a monster at home in my wife.  She asked what I wanted for Father's Day and I told her to go to the club and pick out a club logo bag for me; which she chose well.  My new navy blue Titleist 4 up Stadry came in yesterday and so far so good.  As I was moving my gear over from one bag to the other I was informed that my alignment sticks did not match my bag....obviously nothing that I would care about.  For the rest of the night she told me how they just did not look right and then we were watching the tour event last night and someone had the cover for them in their bag.  She grabs her iPad and starts searching while I went out to the living room to do some work at my desk.  When I came back she told me that I have an Iliac alignment stick cover on the way and it will pull my whole bag together.  Today she is going through my closet and organizing my clothes so I have no idea what I am coming home to this evening.

  10. You would fit right in. I bought an entire bag of clubs in one day from Callaway....wife is still bitter over that one.

Well for starters there is the Bushnelll Tour X Jolt laser I bought to replace my 5 yr old Leupold GX1

And the Titleist 716 AP2's to replace the TM PSi's that had a cup of coffee in my bag. That's just getting warmer up.

  11. I've gone back to the dark side.  I took a set of irons to my local (well 40 mile drive local anyway) Golfsmith for a regripping.  While I was waiting I went to a hitting bay and picked up a TM PSi 6 iron and started hitting it.  The whole time I'm going "man these are solid."  They feel "meaty" when you hit them if that makes any sense.  So I'm browsing around and go to the trade in section and there they are - a set that looked like a demo set yet they had Lamkin mid size grips on them.  And I brought a set of irons in for just that purpose, to go up to mid size grips.  Then the shafts - KBS Tour C-Taper 105's.  That's the shaft I probably would have chosen.  They looked like they had never been hit.  4-AW set and they were marked over $200 below what a new set is off the rack.  I couldn't help myself.  Had a brief range session w/them today and very impressed.  Hell I can even elevate the 4 iron to the point I'm thinking of taking the 4H out of the bag, at least for this weekend.  Also last weekend picked up a Titleist 915F in my never ending quest to kick the original Cally X-Hot 3W out of the bag.  Initial results are promising.  Not sure if I'm ready to take it on the course this weekend though.  We'll see.

  12. My wife and I went out to the club today for a 1:30 tee time.  We were the first group off behind a charity scramble so play was slow.  I hit the ball better today than I have in a long time... for 14 holes.  On the 14th green the course marshal came out and made everyone come back to the clubhouse as a big thunderstorm went by east of town.  I had been watching it and it looked like it was going to miss the course, so I wasn't too worried.  We didn't even get rain.  It did miss us and after 30 minutes, they let us back on the course.  I should have stayed in the clubhouse!!

I was +3 through 14 and usually shoot 2-3 over on the back nine (the front nine is much harder), so I was looking at a good round.  After the delay, I played the last four holes, double bogey, bogey, bogey, par.  The wind did pick up and the temperature dropped about 10 degrees.  So I shot 39/40 for 79.  Our course is a par 72; 37 front and 35 for the back.  Not a bad round but should have been much better.  This was a case of God ruining one of the best games of my life!
