PhD Student in need of hobby

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone.

I've followed the site for a couple months now and it has already helped me make some (good) purchase decisions.

I have "played" golf on and off for 10-15  years, but recently, in an effort to bring some balance into my life (keep myself sane during my PhD), I've decided to take it more seriously. I have set a goal to have a handicap below 15 before I finish (3 years from now).

Thanks for putting together a great site and a good community.

PhD is in economics -- More specifically (if you're into that kind of thing) I'm working on things that lie on the border between macroeconomics and dynamic contracts/game theory.

Macroeconomics is a fascinating field, particularly considering the current political and financial situations across the globe.

I'm a geologist by trade. I tried to complete a Bachelor of Commerce last year at my old university, but gave up on it due to better job prospects.

Welcome from the Pacific Northwest!  Glad you joined us.  Good luck on the PhD!!  Golf is a different kind of stress, but it is a great distraction from the everyday stresses of life.

It's important to have hobbies and interests outside of work, especially during a demanding program like a PhD. Golf is a wonderful sport that can offer both physical and mental challenges, and it's great that you've decided to take it more seriously.

Setting a specific goal like having a handicap below 15 is a great way to stay motivated and focused on your progress. Remember to be patient with yourself and enjoy the process of learning and improving.
