Lost my 8 iron

Well, as the title states, I lost my 8 iron. I was due for a new set of clubs as these are 8 years old. Should I just jump into something cheap for the rest of the summer and wait for the new stuff or just get fit now with the best available for me? It also comes at the worst time cuz I'm in a tournament next Monday. Let me hear you suggestions. Thanks!

Well, my Silver Scots are pushing 22 years old, so there's no need to replace a set of clubs you like just because they are a few years old. Having said that, your next move depends on a few things. If you have the money now to get what you really want, you are probably best served to just do that instead of buying a cheap set that you may not like much and that may not fit you.

You have two separate but related problems. One is you need an eight iron by Monday. The other is that you want new sticks that fit you. My suggestion is to try to arrange to borrow (or maybe demo?) an eight iron to get you through your tournament. You might also look into whether or not it is possible to get a replacement of your own eight by Monday. This guarantees that you will have a full set for your event and will give you a chance to get familiar with a borrowed club, if you go that route. Then you can get fitted for new clubs at your leisure. You may have to order new clubs, depending on what the fitting says, and they may take awhile to come in. It will also give you a chance to take your time and make a good decision, instead of rushing to try to get a new set by tournament time.

Good luck.

Go get fit, waiting for new product to come out, and you will never buy anything, as it's a never ending cycle. Find the set that feels the best, and you are on your way to lower scores.

What clubs are you currently playing? Usually you can find single iron replacements.

New toys are always fun, but if your current clubs have any value at all you probably should replace the 8 iron to either trade in, sell, or just keep your old set as a backup.

I agree that getting fit is a must. If it were me, I would try and find a replacement 8 iron for your current set asap somewhere like ebay. Then go out and get fit and order a new set now. Most OEM's have their new stuff out right now so there are many good choices out there. Hope it all works out well what ever you decide.

I currently play MacGregor VIP 1025CM's. I definitely want to get fit as I've never been "fit" by a professional. I've been checking eBay to see if it or others like it pop up but nothing yet. I've called the courses I've played in the last week and nothing yet. I'm pretty bummed but at the same time would like to test out some new stuff.

When does the new stuff come out typically?

If you really want a new set, go ahead. If it were me and money was tight or I really didn't NEED a new set, I'd try to find a single iron. Ebay is a good source for that, as are lostgolfclub.com, http://www.clubfinders.com/ , and http://www.ironfinder.com/adfun.asp?ad=A03&gclid=CPqMnOKt76ICFQpf2godATkzkA . They're usually pretty good at having replacement individual clubs or finding you one.

In The Bag

Strong 3 wood: Taylormade M1 15* w/ ProjectX T1100 HZRDUS handcrafted 75x
3 Hybrid: Adams PRO 18* w/ KBS Tour Hybrid S flex tipped 1/2"
4 Hybrid: Adams PRO 20* (bent to 21*) w/ KBS Tour Hybrid S flex tipped 1/2"
4-AW: TaylorMade P770 w/ Dynamic Gold Tour Issue Black Onyx S400

SW: 56* Scratch Tour Dept(CC grooves) w/ Dynamic Gold Spinner
LW: 60* Scratch Tour Department (CC grooves) w/ Dynamic Gold Spinner
XW: 64* Cally XForged Vintage w/ DG X100 8 iron tiger stepped
Putter: Nike Method Prototype 006 at 34"

Have a ton of back-ups in all categories, but there are always 14 clubs in the bag that differ depending on the course and set-up. Bomb and gouge. Yes, I'm a club gigolo.
