AH1980MN
Well, this was an eye-opener. I knew a lot of this was going on, but geez- the ethics (or lack thereof) here are startling. I'd really like to see a rundown of spec's on shafts- from OEM's through premium aftermarket shafts- I'm a club ho on a seriously tight budget, and as such love finding a deal on "unknown knowns". I seem to have gotten along with a few of the Ping Tour shafts, anyone know any other diamonds in the rough- as in X is actually Y in different paint, or A is almost identical to B? tony@CIC
When I got fitted by a Ping rep I didn't give it much thought - but then I was just starting out 5 or 6 years ago. This spring when they have fitting day at the club I'll be paying a lot more attention. In the meantime I'd like to get as much info as I can on shafts. Jmikecpa
The main reason I always get fit into an aftermarket shaft. It has nothing to do with having the nicest clubs on the block it has to do with getting the same shaft I was fit for. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy WITB 2024 Driver: Qi10 LS 9* Ltd. goaliewales14
I currently have the Ping Tour 65 X shaft in my G LST driver. When I was doing a bunch of driver testing, I always started with a shaft of a similar weight, and worked up or down from there. I like something around 70 grams and X flex for driver. Another shaft I actually really like is the Project X HZRDUS Black shaft. That was in the Cobra F7+ driver that I was putting head to head with the Ping. I will say though that if you're looking to put a different shaft in a club, definitely get fit first. You could easily blow through a lot of money on shafts trying to find the right one. Go to a local pro shop, or Dicks, and ask to just try different options. You'll be able to tell when you swing it if it's the right one. Just watch how bad the misses are coming out. AH1980MN
I understand getting fit, and that will (God willing) happen next spring, but if one understands the numbers, and has input from his fitter, what shafts are out there that we might not have on our radar? That may have been throwaways for some but would be beneficial to others? That may have been throwaways for some but would be beneficial to others? I'm not exactly sure what you're asking, but you could lump every shaft on the market as throwaways for some but beneficial to others. There's a shaft for every player and a player for every shaft I was kind of thinking the root of the question may be what types of shafts out there are high quality "real deal" but flying under the radar and could be had for less money. If that's the case there aren't a ton out there, but the Taylormade line of TP shafts are the real deal and generally cost less because of the TMaG graphics. For instance when the R1 came out they made a super limited edition with an Oban Kiyoshi White. It was somewhere around $700 for the driver. Now you can buy old stock of the shaft with those graphics for about a 1/3rd of the cost of the one with Oban graphics. That's just an example, but as with anything in golf just because you find a good deal doesn't mean it's going to work for you. PlaidJacket
Personally I don't care what shaft I use/have as long as it works. I'm still playing a now "old" 2014 SLDR with a stock OTR shaft. The shaft is labeled TaylorMade - Fujikura Speeder 57 Flex-S. It's been a fantastic shaft and club for me. That's all I can tell ya. And being that's it's an OTR club I got lucky I suppose. This is the only club in my bag that wasn't professionally fit. So it doesn't matter to me if the shaft is old or new. I don't care it get into the weeds with specs, etc. It's all of no interest to me. What I see with my eyes and feel with my hands is what matters to me. On a side note - I was at Club Champion about 1-2 years ago just looking around. After talking to a salesman for a few minutes I picked up a head off the rack and asked what this driver might cost me. He then walked over along the wall O' shafts and picked one out and said... this combination will cost you about $600-$650. Wow!! I then asked how much for the head and how much for the shaft. I recall the head might have been something like $200 and the shaft was $400-$450. I then asked wouldn't it be possible to fit me into a great shaft for $200 or less? Sure he said. I'll let you guys finish the story... AH1980MN
That's basically what I'm looking for, Meyer- I spose I was a little vague. Kinda like hot rodding- if you know what you're looking for, you can find junkyard parts that will outperform stock or even many aftermarket parts...
