Kenny B
We have had hurricanes in the east and south, flooding, and bitter cold. In SoCal we have had fires and mudslides. Here in the Northwest we have rain - Oh, and the occasional Mt. St. Helens volcanic eruption. Currently, we also have a growing crack in Rattlesnake Ridge just outside Yakima, WA. It is estimated that 1 million cubic yards of rock and dirt will slide down the ridge onto I-82 and the Yakima River. They have put railcars filled with concrete barriers along the Interstate but that would only stop minor rockfall. Here is a drone flyover of the area, and I'm not driving to Yakima anytime soon. http://www.yakimaherald.com/slide/watch-aerial-video-shows-rattlesnake-ridge-crack/html_31999d72-efdd-11e7-a2ac-6f9e05c692c8.html “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Kenny B
Wow. Are they working on plan on what to do after it falls? Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy I'm sure they have talked about a plan, but I haven't heard of one yet. Bypassing this area will require exiting I-82 several miles away and routing traffic through a small town. Probably add 45 minutes to a trip. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

ddryan
California Department of Transportation had the same issue along a particular part of Highway 1 (Pacific Coast Highway) south of San Francisco. The highway would often be shut down for weeks at a time after heavy rains or earth movement. Their solution, a tunnel- Here is a video that shows the process and location- Might be a solution for the Yakima issue, as well. What's in the bag? Personally, I would be for closing the Interstate, blasting the the whole thing, then clean it up. Might be cheaper than the lawsuits if people die when it comes down "unexpectedly". “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
