2017 Epic...

But the g400 was oh so close.

I went and test hit all the leaders on the list. To compare against my DBD 816

And then after hitting them, the guy said let me put your current drivers diamanté (sp) shaft Into an epic head (not a sub zero).

BANG- IT BEAT them all except for the g400, which was basically one yard longer on average.

Honestly, I could have gone either way.

Interesting to me was how I wanted a twisty face so bad, ut it just sounded and felt so bad, I couldn't stand it.

And the Rogue was also not the cats meow for me either...

But what really surprised and shocked me was how much longer they were than my 816 DBD. Pretty much 20 yards...

I really didn't think that was possible.

The g400 off the shelf was just good.

The epic came to life with the shaft out of my 816.

Rogue was meh

The M3 440 was kinda interesting, but I couldn't get past its noise

Happy birthday to me

Good choice and you probably saved a few dollars, although I don't think the Epic has been discounted, as from everything I've read, Callaway wanted to be clear the Rogue was not a replacement for the Epic, but just an addition to the Jailbreak Technology line.

Congrats on the new purchase!!

A buddy of mine just got back into golf in the past year and had a Burner driver. He sliced that thing something wicked.

He booked a session at Golf Town and tested a heap of different drivers. The last one the guy put in his hands was the Epic.

While all the other newer drivers he tested straightened him out somewhat, he legit hit it 20 yds further than all the others. Needless to say he bought it! I played with him a few weeks ago and it was a huge difference from our previous round. He moved up from 230ish to 250ish off the tee pretty consistently. Word is it's selling like crazy.

I'm yet to give the Epic a go, but this along with your feedback has peaked my interest as I was a pretty big fan of the G400 when I hit it, also.

I got a “lightly used” from Callaway pre-owned, for $238 , with a Fujikura Pro 62 stiff shaft.

I actually went to try different shafts in my DBD, but the sales guy said my shaft was quite decent. My swing speed was 102 mph average, so he told me to stay with the stiff flex.

I'm not sure how the 62 gram shaft will be, but the plan is to put the Diamonte 70 gram shat into it, unless the 62 is great. That's kind of why I chose the Epic rather than the g400.

But I don't think you can go wrong with the Ping. It's really sweet too, my buddy got one a few months ago, and he suddenly was only 10-20 yards behind me. I just thought he was swinging better...

My othe buddy just got a Rogue, and I haven't had to face that beast yet. We used to be within 5 yards of each other, so it will be good to play a round with the DBD against him first to see what it does

While not at the same time I was fit for every club in my bag as well as the Pro VI ball. I use the chrome soft x ls on my league course.  It has much softer softer greens than the club that I belong to.

I’m on a mission to shoot my age - lifetime lowest round is 66 and I’m currently 67.

Testing drivers on a launch monitor is almost too much fun! And it can be hazardous on the wallet. Congrats on the new driver. I don't think you can go wrong with the Epic, especially with the right shaft.

I like my Epic but I'd give up 10 yards for better accuracy. Was the Epic the most accurate of the bunch or just as accurate, or did you ultimately decided on it purely due to distance?

Great question!

This was very accurate for me. As was the g400.

The little circle was nearly identical to the *400, whereas the m3 was quite scattered, and actually the epic was a bit scattered on the stock shaft.

When we put the diamonte (sp) shaft in is when the epic came to life for me, and really started to become a much tighter dispersion.

Even the Rouge didn't work as well, with either shaft.

I was quite surprised with that, as I expected the Rogue to win.

I also hit the m3 460 better than I hit the 440?

It just goes to show that different people hit the same clubs differently, and why is important to swing them all on a monitor.

The g400 however definitely lived up to its #1 ranking!

It's a true beast..

That's good to hear, glad you got the longest and most accurate. As for launch monitors, I appreciate the tech but like Mark Crossfield says, it's different out on the course. I wish I could take a g400 out for a couple of rounds to really see if there's improvement over my Epic. I agree though, once I ditched the stock shaft my Epic came alive as well. My wallet died in the process though!
