Vegan_Golfer_PNW
Thinking about the top of my bag and making life simpler. Saw a TXG video showing the differences between a 3H and a 7w. It got me thinking that switching my bag from my SH/3H setup to a 4w/7w setup could help my game moving to more forgiving clubs and gaining launch. Anyone else move to this setup or still have a Hot 2H/3H setup at the top? Considering sub70 949x due to the 60 day guarantee so I don't have much to lose. Not being able to try multiple shafts could cause some issues. cksurfdude and Joel C 2 Quote Follow my journey to enjoying golf and going low Driver: Epic Max LS Ventus Black 6x 44.5" 3wHL: Rogue ST LS 75x Tensei AV Blue w/ xlink 7w: Apex UW 21* MMT 80S DI: Caley 01X 18* with KBS PGH Stiff plus 95g 4-AW: 0211 with KBS Tour Stiff 2.5* up 3/4" long, Soft stepped, MOI matched Wedges Zipcore Putter: L.A.B. NCDuffer
Funny…I just moved from a 4 wood/7 wood setup as my 4 hybrid carry equals my 7 wood for carry and the 4 wood was too low off the deck. I’m now 5 wood and three hybrid. The 5 wood is a little shorter off the tee than the 4 wood, but carry is better off the deck. The three hybrid is lower launch than the 5 wood with less carry, but with roll quite longer, and most likely on line. I think the shorter shaft helped greatly. I only average 241 with my drives if you’re wondering about a speed comparison. When I gave up trying to hit hybrids like an iron and just come in flush, hybrids became very good to me. If I hadn’t done that I might be looking for a 9 wood. RickyBobby_PR
Identify what distances you need in that part of the bag. Get fit for whatever works best for your swing to fit those distances. Perrymr
Love the idea of a 4, 7 wood, I think It just depends what u like to hit more. If you love hitting woods, 4 7 is great, but if u like a smaller profile, u probably won't like the wood set up. Also agree with @RickyBobby_PR that gapping matters. But if u love fairway woods u can find one that fits the gap. Tldr, what do u like to hit? Super is too inconsistent. Thinking of going back because when I had fairways I loved my 5w. Thinking of going 4w and keeping my 3H as well but also worried on gapping. Hence thinking about a 7w. I am also inconsistent with my 4i. Vegan_Golfer_PNW
Hit the rouge st ls at dicks today. Man do there balls suck. Hit some great shots but their spin numbers were so unrealistic. Was a shaft I’d never try and weight as same as my driver. Regardless it felt great to hit and I did get some nice lift. I think I could even go 3w but would lead 4w for some extra height. Kansas King
I like woods and I also like hybrids. It just depends on your needs and swing as there is not one right answer. Woods are supreme at getting the ball in the air and the bigger head can add some forgiveness. However, I've always found for me that hybrids offer better control for the slightly higher lofts (above 20*). I think the hardest things with woods is finding the right fit. I've personally found that the swing weight on most stock woods is too light. I almost always have to add lead tape or heavier weights to make stock woods controllable. I've tried some heavier custom shafts in some woods with mixed results. Just be prepared to tinker a bit. With how temperamental FW wood fitting is, I'm a believe that "the golfer doesn't pick a FW wood, the FW wood picks the golfer." Once you find you're special set of FW woods, you will have them in your bag for no less than a decade. Vegan_Golfer_PNW 1 Quote Link to comment
Vegan_Golfer_PNW
Going 4w for sure. Just placed an order for a rogue st ls HL3. Was getting nice launch and good dispersion. Will see how it couples with my 3H.
