@WaffleHouseTour & @Owengeorge13 - I've been wanting a "watch" for a while now because I do pretty well with data and game based fitness and dieting systems. My only problem with whoop is that it doesn't have a screen. Do you need to pay monthly for whoop data subscription?

Yesterday, I got my strength training session in on the Tonal. The focus was on pre-fatigue, which I had never heard of. The overview is that you tire out specific muscles with a high rep/low weight set and then do a low rep/high weight set right after. It made for a really interesting workout.

Today I'm planning to get a Yoga workout in after work.

I've had some sort of Garmin for the last 5 years and won't use anything else. I track all of my workouts on it - running, weightlifting, rowing, swimming, whatever - it has it. It also has pretty reliable biometric data as far as heart rate, sleep, and caloric burn goes. On top of that, depending on what series you get, it is golf compatible. I pay for the Garmin Golf subscription ($120 / yr) and it gives me GPS course data as well as green contours. Very nice piece of equipment. I have the Fenix 7S, which does just about everything.

Never seen his fitness app, but I've almost pulled the trigger multiple times on Fit For Golf. If you're not familiar with Mike Carroll, he is a trainer and plus handicapper who builds custom programs and has his own fitness app geared specifically toward golf. I have the app installed on my phone, but have never paid for the subscription or used it. Maybe someday...

I know of the FFG program, but admittedly have never used it. I create my own programs for any specific type of training typically.

Recently just been doing follow along workouts through Apple Fitness+ with my wife to help each other stay accountable as we are getting ready for a trip to Mexico in March.

I get most of my workout shoes from UA outlet. I have extra fat feet and they are one of the few places that has E / EEE sizes available. Plus free shipping and returns - can't beat that sh*t with a stick!

Have you compared it to an apple watch, fitbit or whoop? I'll have to ask my coworker tomorrow about his Garmin watch. He's had it for a few years and says a similar thing (he won't buy any other). I'm pretty confident he doesn't have the Fenix 7S, but I'll have to check with him.

I've never done a direct side by side, but before my first Garmin I had a FitBit. The FB was basically a pedometer with a rudimentary HR monitor, and I was looking for more advanced metrics and the ability to store music as well as I was getting heavy into my running phase. The sleep, O2 sat, respiration, and other data was just a huge added bonus that came with it. The battery life on my Fenix is ridiculous - I usually only have to do a full charge every 8 - 10 days. Plus it's rugged AF - only ever broken one band on the 2 that I've had over the last 4-5 years. The golf app runs on the Fenix 7 and is bonkers accurate. I'm within 2 yards of anyone with a rangefinder - it gives me front, middle, and back of green plus most hazards are programmed in and accessible via toggle button on the watch. I don't want to tell you how to spend your money, but you should probably buy it.

I’m an avid FFG user.  I’ve seen immense progress since putting my training in the hands of a professional rather than designing my own workouts based on my own internet research. 😂 My strength and body composition metrics have all improved, but my mobility has really taken of…my GOLFTEC lessons have shown massive improvements in hip and shoulder turn, for example.

He also has an update to the app coming; I’ve been testing the beta.  I highly recommend staying tuned on that front… 😉

Question: I know there are a LOT of online golf fitness vids, plans, courses/memberships, ... but question is...

Does anyone happen to be familiar with the Porzak Fitness program?

He seems to be a popular YT instructor and I kinda like his teaching style / method of communicating. Thx

I watch a fair bit of golf YT, but I haven't heard of Porzak Fitness program. I'll have to look into it.

I did my strength and conditioning internship at Wisconsin with the Men's & Women's Hockey and Women's Basketball and Volleyball strength coaches. One of the metabolic conditioning workouts they'd do was on the old Schwinn Airdynes and it was just absolutely brutal. Essentially you went back and forth between easy and hard intervals. None of the max effort intervals exceeded a minute, but it was just that, MAX effort. The mental toughness it takes to slaughter yourself on that thing repeatedly is insane. But, that's why they were D1 athletes. The Men's hockey guys could get them cranking.

It really is that simple.

I tend to have a problem with doing lots of research before doing anything and when it came to finding/creating a lifting program I was doing waaaaaaay too much research. Best workout for this, best workout for that, how long, so on and so forth.. it got overwhelming. Then, I saw a comment similar to yours and it kinda just hit me. Eat less, move more.. or pick heavy things up, put heavy things down. Just doing something is better than doing nothing.

Those are fire. I have never looked into UA and always went Nike or Puma for my workout gear. Might be time to look into it. What is the comfort like in comparison for running shoes?

Those people are just built different. I would love to see what their max effort looks like next to my max effort. It's probably like a warmup for them lol.

I have a workout on the assault bike that I bust out during breaks from progressive overload cycles that is 15 minutes at 50-60% max effort (for me I think it's like 45-50 "strokes" per minute, or whatever it's called), then for 8 minutes it's a 15 second max effort sprint with 45 seconds of rest. It is absolutely brutal and made worse by the fact that the assault bikes are on the 3rd floor of the gym - I basically fall down the stairs when I'm done!

Another good one is on the concept 2 rower - do a pyramid of 500m, 400m, 300m, 200m, 100m rows - with the last 100m of each interval being an all out sprint. In between intervals you do 15 burpees and 15 lying leg lifts as your "rest" period. It's definitely made me call dinosaurs before.

Those are fire. I have never looked into UA and always went Nike or Puma for my workout gear. Might be time to look into it. What is the comfort like in comparison for running shoes?

So I have always gone with Nike for running shoes, I've never owned a pair of UAs for running. I have owned a few pairs for work and I am on my feet a lot and have zero complaints from comfort. I will let you know how the trainers feel! They were comfortable slipping them on but that doesn't mean much until you start moving. I've never had a bad experience with their shoes to this point though!

Those people are just built different. I would love to see what their max effort looks like next to my max effort. It's probably like a warmup for them lol.

It's honestly absurd. the Hockey strength coach also had a group of NHL guys that came back in the summer to train with him and they were even more next level. Just zero quit no matter how brutal anything was. The other just absolutely insane cardio was running the upper bleachers at Camp Randall with weighted vests. Lightest ones were either 15 or 20 pounds. They had like 20 some odd seconds to get to the top and if they didn't, the rep didn't count.

Elite athletes are fun to watch work in that regard.

I advise anyone to get fit for running shoes.  I’ve run four marathons.  It really makes a difference.  I got fit into brooks ghost and mizuno wave rider years ago.  I just look on Amazon from time to time and find out which one is on sale.  I just got rid of my tomato red brooks ghost and bought a pair on sale in lime green…I’d also try to keep track of miles you put on them.

but the moral of the story is to get fit into sneakers!

Research doesn't burn many calories, unfortunately.

I'm on track with my working out this week so far.

I did strength training on the Tonal on Monday and Tuesday. Both were considered full body, but they covered different muscles. The only common workout was a deadlift variation.

I didn't do any yoga or stretching workouts this week yet, so I'll have to get going on that tonight. A couple of my golfing buddies are going to the simulator tonight, so that might trump any workouts.

I have one more strength workout left in this Tonal "Four Week Fast Track" program and then I'll have to find a new one. The tonal has a number of golf specific workouts, but I don't think they have them bundled into an official program yet.

Yes def try on first if you can.

UAs I've generally had good luck with .. as in just right for my normal size normal width foot .. although recently I picked up a pair of the Supernova model which ended up being tight in front - which was fixed by an old school shoe stretcher!

I had the same issues with Puma at first until I realized how their running shoes fit and adjusted my size with the brand (Puma runs small in the toes as well). So that is good to note.

Yesterday's Numbers and Workout - Deadlifts & Short 1/4 Mi Run (Run not logged):

Weight - 200.3

Calories Consumed - 1,730

Calories Burned - 3,148

https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/13643083600?share_unique_id=122

I started using myFitness Pal for food logging yesterday and was able to set some macro targets. I'm not really one to put a whole lot of emphasis on getting macros exact, as I've never consulted with a dietician and don't have any personal data to know what I should be aiming for. However, I have been ramping up my protein intake supplementation over the last week and yesterday used .9 g/ lb of body weight for protein intake to see what that would do, and I struggled to get 180g of protein down. I had to supplement with powder to the tune of 4 scoops to make it close yesterday, which led to some God awful farts this morning. I changed it to .8g / lb for what I feel may be slightly more manageable. I am going to be supplementing (RSP True Whey at work or RSP True Fit at home) 2-3 times throughout the day to make up the majority of protein intake. I may end up reducing this further depending on how long these farts last. I feel like Pigpen from Peanuts, but instead of a cloud of dirt circling around me it's a visible mist of sharticles. Wish me and those in a 10 meter radius luck!

I feel you on the protein intake dilemma. It is just down right HARD to get that 1 g/lb range. I, too, am aiming for more in the 0.8 g/lb range as well because I just cannot get 200+ grams of protein in without two supplements and a protein bar. Just gets to be too much and honestly unenjoyable lol.

I did a poor job of spreading it out yesterday and dumped the last 55 grams in at 7:00pm. I'm going to try to take 1.5 scoops 3x during the day with 16 oz of water, which will get me to 142g and leave me with whatever is for dinner. I found the RSP True Fit chocolate (https://rspnutrition.com/products/truefit-chocolate) is the best tasting protein powder I've ever had, especially if you mix it with whole milk. It's like drinking a melted milkshake! I bought the RSP chocolate whey to give it a try and will not buy it again after this 4 lb tub is gone - it has an awful metallic / bitter aftertaste.

I may have to start looking for new products though as I believe that RSP is phasing out a lot of their supplements - what do you supplement with?

I've always used Optimum Nutrition's Gold Standard 100% whey. I am sure there are higher quality or "cleaner" protein supps out there, but I've never had issues with it and it is reasonably priced per scoop. I will supplement with a Casein protein occasionally as well as a pre bedtime supplement, and like Dymatize Elite Casein for that.

For bars I buy Costco's Ksig Protein bars, the cookie dough and brownie varieties. They don't taste the best lol, but I'm not eating them for cravings fixes or joy, purely for the nutritional value.
