Sodonnell8697
How’s it going everyone. I’m working a garage setup and looking for advice on the hitting mat. I got a 5x5 mat coming in today and am going to add some cushion under to avoid injury. My first though was a section of carpet/rug padding but saw some mentions of fatigue resistant mats for people who stand long times. what have people used to give good cushion, but not effect feedback on shots and prevent slipping on the concrete. I have used those mats under mind if they work great. I even went do far as to build it out so the ball hits the mat as well vs the concrete. Didn't find any issues with slipping and still effective/realistic! I have seen some people use fitness flooring. Generally the mat + a person on top is heavy enough to keep it from slipping. Seems less expensive than the anti fatigue mats. Horse mats are probably even cheaper. Just need to find a 5x5 option: Also, as an edit, thick horse stall mats weigh in excess of 80 lbs so I would try to buy that local if possible. Typing that out, it seems they may not be very portable so this is your more portable option (the anti fatigue mats that were mentioned earlier), they are not that expensive! Just need to find a 5x5 option: Horse stall mats make great gym flooring because they're so dense. I don't feel like I'd want to hit off of mine. It would be somewhat better than just concrete but I can't imagine it would provide much injury protection. Kenny B
I used these 1/2" puzzle mats https://www.amazon.com/ProSource-fs-1908-pzzl-Puzzle-Exercise-Interlocking/dp/B00B4IHXRU/ref=sr_1_6?crid=ZX1GLOBJ7KQL&keywords=puzzle%2Btile%2Bfloor%2Bmat&qid=1706741771&sprefix=puzzle%2Btile%2B%2Caps%2C257&sr=8-6&th=1 to cover my entire hitting bay 12'x24'. My hitting mats sit on top, and the rest of the room is covered by the 1" version of these puzzle mats with Big Moss putting green. My hitting mats are flush with the surrounding putting green. Rob Person
Welcome to the MGS site! Those mats are also called drain mats, and you can find them in most restaurant outfitter stores. Other options are rubberized strips you peel and stick to the bottom corners of your mat. They are not very thick either. This is basically my setup but I did go with a cheap Amazon mat vs a more expensive mat being my 1st sim and all I wanted to build on a tight budget. Cant recommend this padding enough! pistedriver
Is anyone using just this padding and a mat, and do you have any issues with wrist/elbow pain? @MattF what hitting strip are you using, and are you placing that directly on cement? Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the help! I'm using the Sigpro Softy hitting strip. Yes, it's directly on the concrete as it's designed to be. See my post above which shows my mat and padding with the cutout for the hitting strip.
