Me And My Golf Glove - 2024 Forum Review

Recommended Posts

According to UPS, my glove has found its way to my local UPS store as I am taking the munchkin to grandma's on a long weekend.  So first thing after work on Monday its to the UPS store for me and I will try to get some fit comparisons up between this glove and the variety I have at home as I have been trying to find the best.  Current stock includes its Footjoy XXL, Callaway XXL, and Mizuno Cadet XL gloves to compare it to.

@Paul Hedrick how did you adjust your grip compared to the recommended way for the glove?
I used mine on Friday but haven’t had chance to do a write up yet. Hoping to get it posted tomorrow

I adjusted where I could see the blue part what was supposed to be covered my my right hand.  In the videos provided you are instructed to make sure the blue kind of a triangle is covered my your right hand.  When I did that, the results were horrible for me.  When placed my right hand so I could see the blue triangle, the results were much more pleasing.  I will keep working on it, because perhaps I am doing something wrong, but as of now, this will be my grip with this glove.

Are any of the testers having to move from a grip in the palms to more in the fingers? That is always a slip up I have after a few months, the club starts working its way closer to my palm.

I’m a little late in posting this update due to work commitments but I managed to get my first round in with the glove on Friday.
Having watched the instructional videos that are included with the glove I found that it was easy enough to hold the club as directed. The standout blue markings make this really easy to achieve so they clearly work as intended. It took a little getting used to as the grip felt different to usual but this just reinforced to me that my grip needed work and hadn’t been quite as it should to start with. Which was one of the reasons I applied for the test.
The first hole is a tricky par 3 of just under 200yds all uphill and a narrow approach of the tee. If you don’t hit it straight off the tee then you’re in trouble and I have always struggled with this hole. It’s a tough start to the round especially this time as it was a competition and I was the 1st in our group to tee off.
I went through the setup routine as shown in the video and used my 5 iron. I couldn’t have hit it any better if I tried. A lovely straight tee shot that ended up 23 feet from the pin. This massively boosted my confidence and impressed me with how much the glove could help.
The 2nd is a tight dog leg par 4 that I use my hybrid off the tee on. Filled with confidence from the 1st I stepped up and went through the same set up procedure. I then foolishly tried to absolutely cream it and as a result hit an awful slice. I think this was down to me trying to hit the ball too hard rather than sticking with my usual swing.
For the rest of the round I tried to just use a natural steady swing and I have to say that I found I was hitting the ball straighter more consistently. Any shots that went wayward seemed to be more down to my aim and the ball flight stayed pretty straight so on initial trial there does seem to be some merit to the claims made about the glove.
It was a warm day, high 80’s, so I was concerned about how the glove would hold up but I have to say it did pretty good. There were no sweat marks appearing on the back of the glove and my hand didn’t feel overly warm so a good start.
The glove does feel a little thicker than I prefer but this maybe just down to the change from what I’m used to and will monitor this, and the feel, through the test.
Overall I have to say it was a good start to the test and I’m interesting to see how things progress.

I have not had a chance to get out and swing informative with the glove yet hoping to take it to Trackman this week and get a round in this weekend to really put it through its paces.  But after watching the videos (which were nice, short but informative and did a great job of walking through strong, neutral, and weak grips).  I did work through some of my grips to compare my current grip (very weak) to the grip the glove tries to bring you to.

What I found different in this test run using several different size grips (jumbomax large, oversize, mid-size and standard) to your question the blue stripe you see is not just a color change it is also a silicon-like tacky strip as well so there is both a feel feedback and a visual to help you stay in the fingers and holds the club in there as you manipulate the grip some so it did improve feedback in that area for me.  I will try to keep an eye on this area as well when I start testing my gamer glove against the glove with Trackman in the next day or so.

The Review 8/6/24

Me and My Golf Glove – Official MGS Forum Review by Mark Arrington

My golf game has mostly been self-built, which probably isn’t the best case. My grandfather taught me the game and I learned from watching him, but his form was anything but traditional. I have many flaws and one of those is an overly strong grip that I have tried to fix, but typically will fall back on old habits. With this product the instant feedback and the purposeful practice should be very helpful.

The Personal Questions

What region do you play out of? I am a member of a course, Greene Hills, located in central Virginia.

How long have you been golfing? I’ve been golfing for about 30 years, but really only taken up the game more seriously in the last 6-7 years.

What kind of golfer are you? I’m obsessive-compulsive. I don’t worry about my score, but I want to maximize the kind of player I think I can be. Probably the reason golf appeals to me is the difficulty in it and knowing that I have potential. It’s just hard. I am a big hitter that could care less about the distance, only because it doesn’t show up on my scores. Currently an 11 handicap, but had it as low as 7 at one point.

The Golf Questions

How do you want to test this product? I want to get out on the range with this with a single focus of grip.

What are your plans for the review and comparisons? I don’t know if there is anything to compare this with as I have never used any swing aids so it will more be a comparison of how I feel before and after.

What will make this product stay with you after testing? If I feel my ball striking has improved

Why are you excited about testing this product? The grip is one of the essentials of a quality golf swing, no matter the level of golfer.

What do you know about the product already? I followed their “Break 80” lessons at one point so I am familiar with the guys.

What are your expectations? To show some level of improvement

Callaway Maverick driver, Mizuno 3-wood and irons, Cleveland wedges, TaylorMade putter. Primarily play with Oncore golf balls

My current plan is to play next my first round next Monday the 12th.  Tee time is set for 10:33.  Between now and then I am hoping to get in at least one more range time, but I am reminded of a quote I once heard: 'A wife and a steady job has ruined many a good golfer'..... LOL

It may be too early on, but something to ponder as you progress...

The glove won't Last forever,  but after using it awhile, and with how much of the visual cues help you align, will you rely on the same feel when in a standard glove, or will you revert back to old ways instinctually?

@Rob Person good question!

Im hoping that by using the glove regularly enough this will instil the muscle memory needed to ensure the grip becomes my natural go to but I guess we will have to see

I think this might be the most game-improvement aspect of this glove since it gives both visual and tactile cues with the blue patches and tacky areas.  In anticipation of getting some indoor range time today I was practicing and swinging to try to get a feel for the new grip and it was hard to stay in the neutral grip described and demonstrated in the videos (part of this may just be the fact that the flexibility and size of my hands does not lend themselves to the full overlap the glove try to put you in) but even with this the blue area can be used to maintain hand center and keep the trail thumb in proper alignment.  My comfort with the new grip based on the glove is definitely not 100% but being able to both see and feel as I am swinging did let me figure out when I was reverting to my natural weak grip and adjust to try to break that habit.  I should have some trackman numbers and dispersion charts from trackman to show some comparisons between my naturally weak grip and neutral glove grip to post this evening.

I'm putting a brief update here but will include a longer update with pics in my main thread when I get a chance to get the pics uploaded.

Firstly a general comment based on my hand size and flexibility I was not able to fully match the suggested grip by covering the blue patch around the thumb of my top hand with my trail hand.  Based on the video and its description of hand positioning though this patch was still useful as a centering aid in the gripping process I just had to place my trail hand lower than the grip shown in the video (especially as I lock my top-hand pointer into the pinky of my trail hand in my grip - that's how I was taught to grip at least).

My three big takeaways from my first session which I think will act as a good base over the next couple of weeks while I try to swing more with this new grip style promoted by the glove are this though:

1) The glove did at the very least give me more confidence in and a greater sense of consistency in my grip from swing to swing.  I felt more sure that I was gripping the club the same each time which did provide some added confidence (although after an hour session using the new grip style for about half my show, my trail forearm is a bit sore telling me I was using some new muscles with this grip style)

2) Although my slice was not instantly cured I did get a little more consistent even with this first round of swings with my shot dispersion which I take as a win it is easier to fix a consistent problem than one that's all over the place

3) I was able to use the glove with different grip sizes and styles although those who use smaller grips and have smaller hands will probably be able to match the video grip layout more completely than I was able to.

I will update my main post with images shortly I wanted to take some better pictures of gripping the club with different club grip sizes as I could not get good pictures one-handed at the golf lounge 18 where I was using Trackman to gather data.

  • GolfSpy_APH changed the title to Me And My Golf Glove - 2024 Forum Review

I was hoping to get in some more range time before next Monday's tee time, but it seems Debbie will not allow that.  We are currently receiving rain today (Thursday) and are anticipating significant rain tomorrow and Saturday.  I am hoping it will all be cleared up by Monday, but from news reports Debbie seems to be a very slow moving storm.  I am also hoping that the course will be cleared and ready to play Monday morning.... we shall see.

So far, I have yet to find any improvement gripping my club as directed in the video's.  However, that said, if at some point I do figure it out, I can see keeping the glove for practice.  As you said, it will not last forever, so keeping it as a training aid for practice seems, at least right now, the way forward.

So far, I have yet to find any improvement gripping my club as directed in the video's.  However, that said, if at some point I do figure it out, I can see keeping the glove for practice.  As you said, it will not last forever, so keeping it as a training aid for practice seems, at least right now, the way forward.

I am having a similar experience getting my grip to match up to the ideal grip from the videos with my glove mainly in the placement of my trail hand and covering up that triangular patch by the thumb.  I do feel like I have been successful in getting my top hand in a stronger position though as my "starting" grip before using the glove.IMG_1245.JPG.3d227104fafb052a4a8a82f3ad408aae.JPG

I just completed my third range session (have been stuck indoors up here in Mass due to the weather but it let me get a lot of numbers at least and am just getting to a point where I am starting to feel less weird with this stronger top hand and did see about ten yards of distance and 179 carry with the stronger grip on my driver average vs 169 with my older grip style.

Should get a full round in this weekend with the sun finally finding its way out and am going to play what has been my go-to course this weekend so it will be interesting to see where my shots are going and where my normal tendency to miss right appears with this stronger grip

Perhaps a silly question, but how did you take a picture of your hands griping the club?  If I could I would do the same thing, but I need one hand to take the photo.

Well, it seems Staunton VA survived Debby, for the most part.  Some minor flooding, including my basement, and a felled tree here and there.  Walking my dog this morning I see the course I have a tee time on Monday morning looks fine.  So, unless something unexpected pops up, my first round with the glove will be Monday morning at 10:33.

Hello, MGS community.  I just updated my initial impression in my original intro post to add back lost images and fix my initial range impressions and add images (I also added some bolded TLDR's with the key point in to make things a little easier.

Also, I recognize this might only be me but I added images of the me and my golf glove with my vast collection of different size club grips ranging from the standard size to the now popular Bryson style jumbomax.   I wanted to add this in case anyone has experimented both with their club grip hand style but also club grip size as well to show if this training aid worked with a variety of different club grip sizes.

I hope at least one other golfer is as odd as I am and finds this helpful 🤣

Had to use a tripod with a timer, got lucky with this because I had just bought the tripod to use with an iPhone swing monitor/ shot tracer app I was trying for my backyard hitting mat

Well finally got to use the me and my golf glove out in the grass yesterday for a quick round.  After all the rain in Mass over the last week it was nice to see some sun.  I am wondering though if my new “stronger” grip created the hulk like strength on this drive to slam that sucker into the earth 🤣

OK.  I am ready for tomorrow morning at 10:33: my first round using the glove.  My gear is cleaned, I have a new box of Pro V1x's and my anticipation is HIGH! My regular golf parter is out recovering from surgery, but I texted him and told him I was certain to hit at least 18 birdies, and perhaps an eagle or two.  I don't think he believed me. He is SUCH a skeptic!  🤣

I managed to get out for 9 holes yesterday and used the Me and My Golf glove. I’m finding a similar issues to others in that I really struggle to get my hand over the blue triangle. It just feels so unnatural and uncomfortable. I’ve adapted by having my trail hand lower down the club and this seems to work.
I am seeing a difference with my shot flight using the glove in that the ball is a lot straighter and I’m not getting the typical fade/slice that I normally have. I also seem to be getting a little more distance off the tee with this grip.
I’m hoping that I can get some more rounds in this week but so far it does seem that using the glove gives a more consistent grip which translates to a better ball strike

This morning I played my first 18 holes using the glove.  I played at my home course, as I know it very well.  It was founded in 1919, and has been in operation ever since.  It started as a 9 hole, and I am told that around 1969 it was upgraded to 18 holes.  Speaking to the pro, he told me which holes are ‘original’. It was an absolutely beautiful day on the course, but the greens were still a bit soggy from all the rain. Anyway…..

My first tee shot was, um, disappointing.  A pretty good slice, but still playable.  After that first misery, I settled down.  I still am unable to get my hand over the blue triangle.  When I do, the results are abysmal.  It feels so very awkward and foreign.  However when I move my hands to a more ‘natural’ feeling for me, the results are pretty good.  Today I found that I do not hit the ball longer than with my goto glove, but it is much straighter.  I found I hit more GIR today than I usually do and did not have any doubles.  So that was the good news.  The not so good news was I was hitting the driver perhaps 10 to 15 yards shorter,  my long irons perhaps 5 yards shorter, mid irons were about the same, and short irons were pretty much the same as well.  All of that said, I had a nice round today.  Now if I could hit the ball as long as when I used my goto glove, while keeping hitting them straight as I am with this glove, that would be awesome.  AND IF I could putt, I might have game…. LOL

As of right now I am enjoying the feel of this glove and the feeling of not having the club move in my hand during my downswing, resulting in, I think, straighter hits.   I am not enjoying the shorter distances.  Still more work to do I think

Two weeks in update:  I have two full rounds in and about 5 hours of range time over the last two weeks using me and my golf glove, I just wanted to add a quick update to the progress.  Got in an hour at the range today after rounds on Saturday and Sunday this weekend and normally after three days straight of golf my hands and wrists would be tired and a bit sore but the new grip pattern seems to be utilizing larger-muscle groups so less and strain than normal on the wrists and fingers and a bit more forearm burn.  Stuck working to get ready for the fall semester for the next few days but should be back out this weekend for at least another round and range session so this should be a good test to see how the muscle memory and feedback from the glove hold up after a few days off in a row.

I got another round in yesterday with the glove. The grip with the glove is starting to feel more natural now and I can see the benefits from the straighter ball flight. The glove has definitely helped this and I find the visual aids make it much easier to ensure you’re getting a consistent grip.
The glove seems to hold up well in the warmer weather with no sweat patches coming through and no effect on the grip from the glove.
I’ve not had chance to test the glove in the wet yet so not sure how it performs in those conditions. If I get the chance I will play in the rain with it to see if it affects the performance at all
