rcpunt
http://topgolf.com/us/ I love the concept and think this is definately a way to bring golf to the masses. I'm curious to know if anyone has been to one and what their experience was like.
Chal
Went to one in Chicago. 3 guys, 3 girls. 2 guys play, none of the other 4 have ever played. Everyone had a ball. We stayed for about 3 hours. Had dinner, food was good, drinks and a lot of fun. Jmikecpa
If we had one of these near us I am pretty sure I could get my wife back into playing golf again. markb
Most of the locations are in the Southwest. Man, I think one of these would just rake in money in the locations where a high population density and low ratio of courses would cause a surfeit of demand. I'm talking LA, SF, NY, Boston, Vegas. I'll bet the development costs per site are really high, but the model seems to be working. revkev
I'm looking at this concept and thinking it's just what golf needs. Kind of a combo of video game and the real thing. fozcycle
Top Golf will open in Tampa before the end of 2014. It is located in the Brandon area and will have a Bass Pro shops next door. it looks like they rent the bays at $20/hour and total your points as they have microchips in the balls. As they enter one of several catch basins, it tallies the point value and records them with your name. Looks like you can play many different games with this concept. I heard an interview on XM radio last week. Their main profit is from the food & drink. sp0rtsfan86
There was a huge article about it in golf magazine or golf digest... really good interesting concept... that actually gets people hitting balls. The only part I worry about is top golf is all about alcohol and loud nature of the place. Imagine going to a course with people who think that's the appropriate way of playing on a golf course... loud music and lots of drinking. Look if it gets new people I'm excited as long as they understand the rules and etiquette change from top golf to a golf course. dru_
There is one here. I have been once. I won't be back. It's a bar first and foremost. After that, it is effectively a bowling alley that uses a driving range instead of bowling lanes. Great. Which brings me to the reasons I won't be back. People drink on the course, but generally, unless they are in my foursome, I don't have to interact with them. $40 an hour. $10 sammiches. $7 crappy beer. Games, they are built to even out too many skill levels, it's like a slot machine without the winnings. But most of all, it boiled down to the atmosphere, it is an environment that blends the very worst things about golf and bowling, and draws a crowd of the worst sort of people. Lots of disposable income, lots of drinking, and a grand level of jackassery. Thanks, but no. Bogey in The Woods
Been to the one here in Austin several times. If you arelooking for the serene, proper golf etiquette that you expect at your local club - this isnt the place for you. Yes, there is alcohol and food. Yes, if you go anytime after lunch, it begins to get really rowdy. Yes, the later you play, the more expensive it gets. So let me clear up a few misconceptions about the place: 1. If I go at 9am, when I would normally tee off. It costs me $20/hr for the bay. If my brother goes with me, still $20. Not each- total. So now it is 10 bucks a piece. You are renting the bay. You are not paying by the player. So you can have as many as 6 players in a bay. Even if yiu play at night, when it becomes 40 bucks an hour, you are paying less than 7 bucks each. 2. If you play early, not as rowdy. You play at night, especially on weekends, expect a dance club vibe, not a golf club vibe. now they have 9 games to choose from requiring you to hit different targets. Each game makeseach player hit a total of 20 balls. Each ball Iis microchipped so the computer system knows where your ball went. Bottom line for me, is that it is a fun place to go and hang out with friends in a golfish environment. Relaxing place to have fun with a golf club in my hand. sp0rtsfan86
For those thinking I'm a stickler for music and alcohol on the golf course I'm not... Anyone who spent time on a college golf course on a friday as much as I have knows what golf and alcohol and music is and alcohol and music....with golf. There's a big big difference... and TopGolf to me seems like it can get rowdy... Just one of those I'm not quite sure how they would transfer from Topgolf to a golf course.
