I got a “free” 60° wedge from Warrior several years ago that was a piece of crap. I avoided them after that.

I agree. The Warrior stuff I have tried is on par with Walmart store clubs. Anything from the big 3 and little 3 is way better.

Big 3 - Titleist, Taylormade, Callaway

Lil 3 - Ping, Cobra, Srixon

Honorable Mention: Adams, Cleveland, Wilson, Tour Edge

Muira and Mizuno are no brainers

This marketing strategy has been around for a while. Warrior golf was the first on that comes to mind. I get emails from patriot and one other that I can’t remember.

I have no personal experience but Have heard the equipment isn’t horrible but it is difficult to return if you choose to return.

Warrior was and or is scam, can't return and get money back, many have stated that. Sounds to good to be true, it usually is.

It's about a 45 min drive for me to their door... Makes returns that much easier. I might just have to go down and visit. If the other thread is correct that their fairways compete with TM M6 then I might have to give it a go.

  3. I received a marketing email from Patriot Golf with an offer for free wedges when I participate in their test play program. I was intrigued so I called.

Basically, if you buy a wood or hybrid with a 45 day return guaranty then you get to keep the 3 wedges regardless if you keep the wood/hybrid or not.

I passed on the deal, but it made me think. Has anyone heard of or tried their stuff?

  4. I have heard stories, don't remember where I heard it, about people having a set of irons, but one or two clubs in the bag always gave them trouble when compared to the relativity of their other irons.

Somewhere in the story something ended up being either out of spec in some fashion that was measurable. It could have been swing weight caused by inconsistent shaft weight on an assembly line. It could have been an aggressive spine that bent weird. The reality was that greater care in assembly to ensure consistency and repeatability was needed. Whether someone pays for spine aligning, FLO, or SST Pure it would seem that greater attention to detail would follow.

I watched a video recently of a gentleman club builder demonstrating FLO of a shaft. He mentioned that once the Flat Line Oscillation axis was found that the rules of golf state it would be a breach to install the club head so as to create a fade or draw bias. I found it fascinating that assembly of the club is regulated so rigorously for the pros. At the same time, if the USGA sees a possibility for an unfair advantage to how the shaft is installed then I can't ignore that it matters.

Your comment about Tiger makes me think about how many pros put their name on something and we buy it because they are the spokesperson. Clubs, shoes, socks, gloves, glasses, underwear, alcohol, cigarettes (back in-the-day), etc. Amazing how certain people being a spokesperson will cause us to buy something, even when studies show to the contrary about what the “star” is claiming.

The debate on this item will rage on in a lot of places.
From my own experience with finding stable plane of a shaft it certainly makes the shaft feel a bit firmer.
When a shaft is twanged that is out of stable plane it wobbles like crazy, almost immediately. So in my mind I want that shaft as stable as possible. How much that truly effects performance is what gets wildly debated. I don't believe there has been any definitive data one way or the other.
To me it's setting the fine details of a build.

I’ve always wondered about this too. Does any one know if PXG for example pures sets you get or is it better to take your current clubs somewhere to have pureIng done?

Tiger Woods has his clubs PURED... That's enough for me to think it's good if you can afford it.

TXG, YouTube channel, has said it is more important on steel shafts because the wall thickness is so much thinner than graphite shafts.

One way to tell if a club has been PURED is that the graphics are not straight in line with the top line. If all the iron shafts have the label in different orientations then you can know it was either spine aligned, PURED, or "twanged" as mentioned by others. There is also a PURED sticker that came with my PURED clubs, and a certificate.

I can say my PURED clubs, I have 2 utility hybrids, are very consistent when swinging and ball flights. I would recommend it.

  7. I walked outside at 12:30pm, while I was watching the final round of the Farmer's at Torrey Pines, when the 73°F weather and beautiful scenes at Torrey encouraged me to make a twilight tee time Sunday.

My tee time was at 3:20pm, so my hope was to get in at least 9 holes - mission accomplished. Also, I usually always play with buddies, so going solo, with the hopes of being paired up with a good group actually turned out very well.

I played San Dimas Canyon GC from the white tees because that's where my playing partners wanted to play. I believe I shot my best 9 hole score at that course of +4, so I had a good day!

    1. 5/2 (shots/putts), +1. Drove just right with a clear 70yd shot into the green that went long, nice flop on a different slope to 4 feet, but still 2 putted
    2. 3/1, Par. 9i flared to the fringe a little long to the front pin, putter to 3 feet from off the green and 1 putt for par
    3. 6/2, +1. Perfect 5w with a baby draw, but hit the second 5w fat, then my approach fat to the fringe, Texas wedge to about 12 feet and 2 putts
    4. 3/0, -1. Perfect high fade drive to the right fairway, 9i a little fat and pulled to the front right that backspun to about 6" off the green, Texas wedge from 35' for Birdie!
    5. 3/1, Par. Hit my iron a little fat leaving a 60° 30 yards out, sank the 11' putt for par
    6. 6/3, +1. Caught the 5w thin so it caught the right tree line, punched a 4h with a low slice to about 130ish, 9i to about 10 feet but over shot the first putt by about 4-5 feet which left a tickler downhill I missed for a 3 putt bogey
    7. 4/1, +1. Miss-hit my iron to the right which left a tough chip. In retrospect I chose the wrong shot of a low chip with a gap that caught the downslope and shot across the green to the opposite fringe. I should have went higher and landed on the green for more control. I Texas wedged it to about 6 feet with a tough breaking putt that I drained for bogey
    8. 4/1, Par. Excellent high fade drive I the perfect spot in the fairway but again caught my approach a little fat and ended up just off the right and short on the fringe, Texas wedge to about 5 feet and 1 putt for par
    9. 6/3, +1. Yanked my 5w to try and cut the corner which clipped a tree and kicked out into the fairway, layup 6i left a PW they I got to the back tier for a chance at a 12 foot birdie that was quicker than I saw leaving me 6 feet by and a 3 putt bogey

    40/14, +4

  9. Ditto pretty much everything already said.

    Get the set Gap

Then get something in the 54°-56° range with high bounce as a sand wedge and fluffy lies

And, a lob in the 58°-60° range with low bounce for tight lies and versatility

A Vokey-like 50° might not fly the same as a set A wedge (Gap), so the only reason to get the Vokey style 50° is if you like to use it around the greens as much or more than more lofted wedges.

This is my opinion based on my experience, and what I gather from those much more experienced than me.

  10. It makes me wonder, if a golfer can't hit a straight putt, or the optimal speed, then would a green book really matter? Or knowing Aimpoint Express?

For excellent golfers/putters it makes sense to have the best tools and especially when you are competing. But, the amateur golfer would probably benefit more from less option paralysis and more practice/time playing?

  11. I was in great position off the tee with a 7 iron in hand that did not go well on the par 4. I miss-hit the 7i into the trees right of the green. Gap wedge in hand, trying to keep it under the branches from about 20 yards, I was about 25 feet from the pin and just off the green by about 6 feet.

Another person in our group continued to mark his shot by sticking his divot tool vertically in the ground behind his ball. It was right on my line and about 4 feet from the cup. I said, "can you mark it with something flat or finish out?" He replied, in a gripe, "you think you're that good?!? I'll mark it, but you probably won't even come close to my mark or making it!"

I thought to myself, 'I can make this!' I still had my Gap in hand. I setup, make good contact, and the ball is on the way... The second bounce hits his coin, hops again, and goes in for par.

He then proceeded to say, "I'll keep my mouth shut." - the best part 😉 Making par was great. Making a point was even better.

The next tee I hit my longest drive ever (315 yards). Confidence does make a difference.

Have any of you guys used any of the online photo services for framed large format photo prints?  Now that the bookshelves are finished and the books are migrating to it, the walls are looking pretty bare.

I'd love to get a Samsung Frame TV, but it's an awfully big spend for something that'd just be a glorified digital picture frame.

Costco does prints on glass, canvas & metal that I have seen come out very nice.

My improvement is an indoor golf ball driving net in my living room.

We played with our Ohio golfing partners on Friday at Cypress Creek in Ruskin Fl. After several range sessions, my driver stopped acting up and my drives were fairly straight - well, except for that one drive that I sliced into the water. Ended up with an 88, primarily because I left about a half doz putts a roll away from the hole. One of these days I'll get to use to Bermuda grass. However, I was able to kick putt this in for a bird on a par 4 - no putter required emoji23.png

This was also a day for seeing lots of wildlife on the course, from cranes and raccoons scampering across a parking lot to this bad boy sunning himself next to one of the tee boxes.

My scores have been OK, but how I get them isn't OK.  I know I can play better than I have been, but wasted shots kill me.  It's not that I hit an errant shot; I just can't hit the ball.  I can't tell you how many times I have hit the ball in the fairway 150 yards from the green and then completely miss the ball with my next shot.  Fortunately, I get the ball within 30-40 yards of the green then make a par putt or at worst a bogey and not double.

Yesterday I hit a poor tee shot on a par 5, topped my ball into a fairway bunker, hit a good shot out of the bunker to 145y out, chunked my 4th shot to 115y out, hit a decent 5th shot to a couple of feet in front of the green to a front pin location, chipped in for a bogey save.  At worst I should have been on the green or just short of the green in three shots where I can easily make a par.  It's been like this for a couple of weeks.

I normally don't go out to play golf just for fun and have a good time.  I go out to play golf better than I did the last time I played golf.   I find it very difficult to enjoy being out there when I'm not hitting the shots I know I can hit.  On the positive side I have managed to recover enough to not make many doubles.  I have to figure out my issue before my short game goes on vacation.  Sorry for my rant... just frustrated.

I know your pain! My last round I found myself in great position off the tee and also did not have great approach shots or good putts for bird.

A friend of mine says, "That's Golf."

I say, "Hitting a round ball, with a crooked stick, at over 100mph from uneven terrain - never goes to plan."

... What a fun, exasperating, good and bad round today. In other words ... golf. Battling a stomach flu the last few days I was a little weak but of course I walked anyway. I got paired up with 3 Korean players in their late 70's and they invited me to play from their tees, so I obliged. Normally I play from 6400 with some long par 4's and 2 drivable par 4's at 277/294, a 150 and a devious 115 yd par 3, it plays much longer than 6400. But at 5952 it plays short, very short because I can land on downslopes shooting the ball forward even farther. I was out driving my pards by 150 - 200yds every hole and they thought I was Dustin Johnson LOL. One of them never hit a ball above 3 feet the entire round and none of them came close to breaking 100.

... Fun because even though they spoke broken English, they love golf and were a joy to spend 4.5 hours playing along side. Exasperating because I had 3 eagle putts and made none of them from 15/10/8 feet. I also had wedge or 9/8 iron almost every hole and just could not hit anything really close. I ended up at -2 and really should have been much lower on such a short course. 5 birdies and 3 bogies. I drove both 277/294 par 4's and only birdied one of them. Both are measured by their dogleg and not as the TP5 Pix flies, so they are more like 240 and 260 but over water that is about 15 yds short of both greens. I hit 2 wedges into bunkers with a par on one and bogie on the other. Just no excuse for hitting into a bunker with a pw in my hands. By the end of the round I was really tired and pulled my tee shot on 18 into the 9th fairway. There is a bunker on the left I can't fly over from my tees but 20 yds in front from the Gold Tees AND a downslope 20 yds in front of that bunker so I over swung and pulled my tee shot leaving me a 6 iron into the green. Blind shot so I landed in the middle of the green with a front pin and like I seemed to do all day I lipped out my 5th putt that caught a piece of the hole. It was like the Golf Gods were punishing me for playing forward tees. 🤣

... All in all I have no complaints as I felt much better, shared the day with some great guys that love the game and put myself in position to score all day. With so many stuck in winter conditions I am well aware how lucky I am to even be playing so I am not gonna complain about playing with temps in low 70's on a course too short for my skill level and not taking advantage of it.

Great round! You are a very good player.

I have always wondered if the PGA played closer if they would not score alot lower because of some of the same issues you ran into? Who knows.

  17. 20 hours ago, Kenny B said:

I really suck at this game!!  Same score as yesterday, 82 but today it was 42/40.  No birdies; no doubles, but I had to make a no-putt bogey to do it.

Fairways hit... 5.  GIR... 3.  Really?!  Only 3 greens in regulation!!  I keep thinking what I could do if my long par putts and bogey saves were for birdie opportunities.  Frustrated!

I enjoy playing more when I suck because then I am not concerned about the score. I have lower expectations.

It's all about getting out and playing for me.

My ex-wife suffered from mal-content - never being satisfied. It is a horrible way to live.

Golf is about attitude as much as score. Some people would give up a child to shoot those scores.
