I was able to get in a quick 9 after work. Picked up some new golf shirts, and it's likely psychological but I seem to play better when I'm dressed better lol. Fired off a 2 under and had some errors or could've maybe been a 4 under 9 which would've been my best ever! Anyways, I digress. I'm still testing the @Sundog Eyewear and the sunglasses continue to impress me, especially the Billy83 model that are polarized. I've had my PXG driver for a couple years now, and its been a beast! A few pics of my local course this evening...

So. Each time I post in here I wanna brag about something spectacular that happened out on the course. But .. today is not that day... 🤷‍♂️
My small achievement is playing 4 x 9 hole rounds within one week for the first time. Oh and didn't lose a ball, although I seemed to be trying hard on the Par 3s!
Drives off the tee were mostly ok; putting was mostly ok ... but sheesh everything else in-between was a struggle for me today so it was another high scoring round.
..need to set up another lesson....

Got out for 18 and in total was +26 for a 98 on the day. Everything felt really good today except two parts of my game. First being that I still have no idea what I'm doing with a 3 wood in my hands (my 5h performed really well). Second, if there had been any body of water on this course, my putter would probably be at the bottom of it right now.
Off the tee, really solid 10/14 fairways. My irons, the best I think they have performed totally through a round. And my wedge game definitely set me up to where I should not have needed as many putts as I did.
39 putts! No idea what a lag putt was. Powering too much into shorter putts that I didn't need to. Just a really bad day for the putter.
Still better than sociology coursework 🙃

Played 18 today and it was rough. Front 9 was fine. I was relaxed shots went well etc. On the back 9 I had an infamous blow up on a par 5. Dropped two into the water. That said putting was good. No three putts, and only a couple of doubles.

Tmrw it’s off to work on my short game.

I played 9 holes after gc duties today. Decided that I would see how hitting from the orange tees would work out for me.
While I didn't gain any distance on my drives, I didn't lose much either.  Maybe 5-6 yards average? Which is pretty consistent from my previous rounds with the mindset ball. I managed to hit 5/9 fairways, and both greens on the par 3s.
Greenside spin... hmmm?.  Not sure what was going on, but it still would hop and rollout about 8-10 feet. And i had forgotten about that part from previous testing on the second hole. 100 yard wedge shot, back pin. Got decent loft, landed what i thought was soft, but still rolled off the backside. I doubled that hole after getting back on the green.
I did lose 1 ball though.  9th hole, there is a wet marsh divide between the fairway and the green. My second shot, about 165, uphill green. I used a 3/4 swing with the 5 wood. It came up just a yard short of the green, and bounced backwards and rolled into the muck. I ended shooting a 47. 1, 3 putt the whole round. I decided I'll stick to rhe whites until I can get below 85 consistently.

Got out this morning and at the turn decided to play the back nine too. I was gassed. 47/55. Hit some decent drives and I am getting to the point of now selling my ventus the more I play with the KBS TD. Short putts still driving me crazy for some reason. Every putt has break and I am sycing myself out. I had one do a full 360 lip out for par. It was wet and windy and only 42 degrees. Great work out and I had the course to myself. Was tranquil despite not shooting the best.

Shot 47 on the front 9 at Langston yesterday. Doubled both the par 5s and had bogey on every other hole. Doubles on par 5s are terrible, but the thing that had me most irritated was a pair of 3-putt bogies after hitting the green in regulation.
It's so upsetting. I'm right there putting for birdie and, because I never want to come up short on a birdie putt, I run it past the hole. Then I'm annoyed/angry with myself; don't take the time to line myself up properly or I'm scared to go past the hole again & leave it short; and miss the come backer by 2 inches for a disgusting 3 putt.
The upside is that on 6/9 holes I had a par putt, most of them were +20' but I had a number of strong rolls that left me kick in bogies. Spending more time on chipping/putting has me taking better lines and making better chips when I just miss the green on an approach. One day those putts are going to start falling, that day was not yesterday.

Solid round but should have been much better. 7 over playing off 7. Another poor finish, doubled 16 and bogeyed 17. Had to hole a 8 foot putt to par the last. Missed 3 birdie putts from 3,4 and 5 feet. All were slight misreads but well struck putts. Disappointing as it’s rare for me to have that many close chances. Had 2 birdies, one after a good approach to 6 feet from 70 yards, the next was a hole out from 60 yards. Drove the ball reasonably well, conditions were pretty windy, with a few strong gusts making things interesting

After 5 days of much needed rain, I was the only golfer to challenge our wet course this morning.  The course was only open to walkers, but I didn't think I would be the only idiot maneuvering around standing water in low spots.  I shot 76, with 2 birdies, 6 bogeys, and 10 pars.  My shot of the day was a Dave Pelz Special 3/4 swing 9 iron from 118 yards that came to rest inches from the hole.  Life is good!

Okay boys. Scramble for a good cause today. Typical mulligan packages, long drive, closest to pin and putting contest. Standard issue event.

We don't expect to win. We just come in respectable like and enjoy the buffet.

Two teams come in and post -25 scores.
    47... 40 freaking 7.

The audacity of these guys looking out into a crowd of their peers with stolen accolades just astounded me.

Can't imagine how sharp the grooves were on those pencil wedges.

Anyways, I hit em petty good. Clean inside 100 and the new putter felt incredible! My pace was way better than average.

    47....

Bizarre round of golf Saturday morning at my home course Gettysburg National.

Played Friday evening after work and only finished 13 holes before it got too dark to play on.  Unremarkable round except that I holed out for par on #4 from short side behind the green to a hole about 12’ from the back on a downslope, and got up and down from three bunkers.  Everything that got me into having to make those shots was mediocre.  I had an 8:45am tee time the next day, so I treated it like a warm up/practice round.
Woke up Saturday to drizzling rain and temps that tried and then failed to get out of the high 40’s.  Butchered the start: double, double, par, par, bogey, bogey.  The people I was paired with looked like they hoped I got lost on the way to the 7th tee.  But then I hit a 5i 208 yds to 12’ and lipped out the putt but easy par.  As it got colder I started playing better.  Birdied #8, left birdie putt on #9 1” short, lipped out birdie on #10 after duck-hooking my tee shot into the fairway of #14, left a 38’ birdie putt on #11 6” short but dead on line, birdied the par 3 #12, up and down par on #13, birdied par 5 #14, up and down par on #15, bogeyed #16 after getting out of position off the tee, sank a tricky 5’ left to right downhill putt for par after coming up short on the par 3 #17, and birdied #18.

+5 front, -2 back for a 73, and best round of the new year after a terrible start (that could have been even worse if I hadn’t gotten lucky on a couple of bounces).  Really showed me the value of letting the bad shots go and telling yourself, “the next one will be a lot better”

We got rained out at Arcadia Bluffs on Sunday but played the South Course on Saturday. No rain, but 40 mph winds made for a challenging round. I went 51/48 and was really happy with my round other than one par 5 I blew up on.
Despite the wind I loved every minute of that round. The course was in good shape for early season, and with the heather cut down I lost no balls in the thick grass. If I were to play it again without the wind, I would make better club choices - the fairway bunkers ate my ball a few times, so a 3 wood or hybrid off the tee would have saved a few strokes. My plan was to keep the ball low out of the wind, but generally I was never in position to run the ball up due to the wind. The greens were challenging - fast with false fronts and corners that sloped into sand, and on a few occasions I had to run up and mark my ball so the wind didn't push it off the green.

41/41 -> 82 yesterday morning in the rain. Was able to hold off on the umbrella until hole 7 or so, took a 30 minute break at the turn trying to wait it out but probably should have just trudged on from the start.
First five holes or so were really solid, last five were really shaky. Swing kind of comes and goes as it pleases. I was happy with my putting. Erase a double on the back par 5 that featured two open face shanks and get my wedge distances dialed in and I'd feel a lot better.

Well I rebounded nicely from my 103 last Sunday.   Shot 89 at Pineridge Country Club, on a more difficult course, with probably the 2nd fastest, and most subtle breaking greens we play.  Also a place we only play 2-3 times a year, so don't know it as well as most others.  I'm sad to report I did suffer "cerebral edema" 😆, but very happy to report it only lasted one hole.  Now it did result in a 2 penalty stroke 10, but the new me(post Punderson, meltdown and quit after 9, 2.5 years ago), took it without a curse word to be heard, and moved on to the next.
As I indicated the greens were tough missed 3 or 4, less than 4 footers, subtle breaks, and very slopey so I was afraid to just try and jam then in, could go 5 feet past on a couple...OH Well!
On a high note played Saturday morning teeing off at 0850.  A 15 minute downpour between 0800 & 0815, made everyone stay home.  Never had anyone behind us, and had entire back nine to ourselves.
On a very sad note since the weather was perfectly clear during our entire round, the lack of golfers, is likely due to ALMOST NOBODY, calling to cancel their tee time, when they decided not to play.

Walked 18 in the rain yesterday with my buddy. Have had rain all week so only back 9 was open, and they haven’t been able to mow much. Played the back 9 twice with a light mist to start and full on rain by the end. Had two other walkers join us that were also good company.
Scores were high, but that didn’t matter so much because match play kept it fun. I gave my buddy Chris 3 strokes on the first 9, we were all square going into hole 9 and I was able to close out the win. Next 9 we played straight up, Chris figured out his driver more than me and won 2 up.

Only trouble we ran into were these parents letting their kids play on the teebox. 🙄

Played with @DiscipleofPenick at Windmill Lakes yesterday.

Shot a disappointing 93 but there glimmers of hope.

I think with a bit of work the new driver is going to be a monster. I have to work out my tee height because I was struggling with it. Also, hit some shots long, like quite a bit longer than my normal length for that club.

Shot of the day was the 290 yard drive down the throat of #10.

Played a quick 9 holes today with my son, after getting my honey-do list completed on Saturday.  We went to the range to try to figure out his pushes and we think we got a handle on it and went to the first tee.  I hit my 4-iron down the right in a good spot, now it's time for him.  He pipes one straight down the middle and even out-drove me by 5 yards!  I give him an iron and placement recommendations and he puts it exactly where I said from 140 yards out.  He continued this good play for the next 4 holes straight.  He has not once strung this many good shots and kept the concentration before, and I couldn't be more proud.
Then the wheels fell off, such is golf sometimes.  I told him to be grateful for how well he played those first 4 holes, in time things will come.
For my game, I was focused on shot placement, avoiding trouble areas, and hit all 9 greens in regulation.  My putting is my largest hurdle to overcome.  The greens are still recovering from being punched and sanded, but my speed was far off today.  If I can keep the ball striking up, and improve my putting, my PB will be hit soon.  I can feel my first round in the 60s right around the corner.

Played 9 this afternoon with my honey; she was struggling a bit today but I did mostly ok .. except for those couple of times I didn't... 😄
The Par 3s killed me. Doubled both. Really dunno what's wrong in my head here - neither one is all that difficult in actuality.
First one topped the tee shot, hit the second ok but still just short of the green, took the putter but prob should've chipped here .. and then two putts.
Next short Par 3 drowned the first tee shot; re-tee'ed and hit it nicely .. had an outside chance at a birdie putt .. just a touch too much oomph and rolled over the edge.
A bunch of second shots also cost me .. this facet of my game has consistently been weak.
But hey like I've been saying...

Weather was nice a little breezy but temps were in the 80s.     It was an interesting round; Hit the ball well off the tee with 11 out  of 14 fairways and the others were still playable.  Basically no problems off the tee.   Only hit 6 greens but felt like I hit my irons really well.  Most of my greens missed were long;  the ball hit the green but I wasn't able to get it to stop.  On the back I started aiming more for the fronts of greens and just let the balls release.    Short game was a disaster chucks or couldn't get the ball close enough to one putt other than the few times I was able to use the putter from off the green.
I need to figure out how to take the short game shots from the practice range to the course.  Maybe it is just a lack of focus on the course

Even par round with 2 birdies on the 9 hole executive down the street.

I’ve played this course dozens of times since I was 7 and never could shoot better than +3. Today was a good day for fairways and greens.

And the greens I missed, I was able to 1 putt each one.

    7/9 greens.

Quick nine holes today. I’ve been feeling good about my practice and looked forward to testing it on the course (and getting in another testing round for the Offical Review of the Edel Array).
It was a good round - I was excellent off the tee, hitting every fairway except one (I was still in a fairway with a good look). I felt like I hit my irons pretty well, which is normally my weak point. My stats do not agree, but I think that is mostly from two holes, where I forgot how to hit my five iron. Short game was good.
Hole of the day was the par 3 eighth, 105 to center, flag short sided, into the wind. I hit the front of the green and made this putt for birdie:

    Although approach still stinks:

Things are trending in the right direction.

Yesterday I got the chance to play Warren Golf Course at the University of Notre Dame. I'm a proud ND alum (Go Irish!) and it's always a treat when I get a chance to go back and visit.
The course is a beautiful, links-style design by Coore & Crenshaw. It is a very challenging course, with a lot of undulation on the greens and trouble surrounding them. You can get away with errant tee shots on some holes, but if you miss the green, you're in trouble.
The weather yesterday was incredibly windy, with gusts of 20-30mph and sometimes more. The temperatures were in the mid to high 70s and the sun peaked through the clouds from time to time.
I ended up shooting 87 (45-42), which is definitely higher than I was hoping for. However, with the high winds and this only being the second round of the season, I can't be too disappointed. Four double bogeys and two 3-putts didn't help.
I really tried to bring the 2-iron into play off the tee, especially with the wind being so strong. I made some good contact with it on several holes, but I don't think I was turning fully through impact as I unfortunately had some blocked shots that started right and stayed there.
There were some memorable shots, including a sand save on the tough par three 11th and a perfect draw around some trees to be pin-high on a tough par four.
Going to try and get to the range at least once this week to get some practice in and find some more consistency. My wedges and putting (minus the two 3-putts) felt really solid. Just need to find some consistency in ball striking and off the tee.
    Until next round!

I played an Arnold Palmer design today at the Country Club at Woodmore outside Wash DC.  I really enjoyed the layout and green complexes.  The staff there was extremely friendly to us non members and helpful.  The weather was a little sketchy in the high 50's with a light steady rain for the middle 5 or 6 holes.
The tee shots and approach shots were working pretty well and the putter was mostly average.  I did lose my distance control with the putter in those middle rainy holes and had a few 3 putts.  A tap in birdie on a par 3 on the back nine and finishing with a birdie on the par 5 18th helped the score and I finished with a 76.
One hole, #15, was closed for re- construction so we played #1 a 2nd time to get an 18 hole score.  I'd love to go back and play again when #15 is open and when the grass has thickened up a bit with some warmer weather.

Played a round today and had some good shots and not so good shots. Going thru my swing change, I expect to have some bad shots and results.
I'm still minimizing the damage and trying to keep out of my head.  Seeing progress but man o man is it frustrating at times. Haha.
Keep grinding and it will pay off!
