What are your expectations? I just went through this prior to going on a vacation. I was Shanking my wedges, even shanked a few while playing the courses.
This is the most unnerving thing to me, that terrible shot. But, I knew that eventually I would stop doing that crap, and once again I have moved my strike pattern to the central region again.
Why would you need to look at a different iron? Which irons are you looking at? Just because you are having an off few weeks does not mean that you need a SSSSSSGI type of club. The extra s’s for illustration purposes.
I want to get back to where all my irons are super straight and trusty, I was shanking EVERYTHING . I have Taylormade RBZ that I bought off the shelf and are regular flex, I want to get a fitting and new irons. I feel like mine are a bit short and I am pretty sure they are the wrong flex (7 iron-195). I am looking at Callaway Apex Pro 21s or the new Titleist T100 kinda just depends on what the fitting tells me, I just know new irons are in the future. Yeah I get it I just have never played this bad or had this bad of a funk so its kinda pushing my nerves.

I try to hit smooth 3/4 swings that have a nice steady acceleration at the bottom. No thought about distance just feel.
Right now my miss is a mid round shank with a wedge that will occur a few holes in a row. Its baffling to me because everywhere else is great. I really try to not let it get me down.
I definately need to get my temp in good order I will try this out.

Well thats what I am trying to avoid, I am wanting to pull the trigger on some irons but if I keep golfing like this then I will have to get a different set. Also I haven't found a teaching pro around here, to be fair though I haven't looked real hard.
14 minutes ago, cnosil said:balls that go straight are the HARDEST balls to hit reliably. A degree change in setup, path, face angle, lie angle, etc will cause the ball to curve. You don't say how non straight the ball was going, but sometimes our swing just does that and we hit balls that curve more than we expect.
Depending how bad you think the funk is, take a lesson or hit some partial swing shots (9-3 drill) or hit a mid to long iron 100 yards to get your tempo and sequencing in line, put down some alignment sticks to make sure your setup is correct.
I wouldn't sweat it maybe take a few days away from swinging a club.
I will be trying to find some lessons around here and do both of those practice techniques, I will also buy some alignment sticks... should have had them before. Thanks for your input.
Everyones input is appreciated, I will keep you all updated on how this process evolves as well.

Thanks for the input. I hope I can get out of this, it just is unfun haha

Was that you in the group behind me?? Sorry if my bad play rubbed off on you. I've been having days like that too. It comes and goes based on the whims of the golf gods! Seriously... let's get together for a round. Maybe the temp will cool off in the next few weeks; these 105º days are getting tiresome.
It could have been I teed off at 1138, but only if the person behind you spent more time in the other fairways. yeah we definately need to get together. I literally just wanted to quit, I didnt but I sure wanted to.

Don’t worry it’ll all come back. I went thru a similar spell a short time ago and was, like you not happy. Keep the faith, after all Golf is a 4 letter word.
Thanks for the advice I will definately keep the faith. I need to get better at the mental game thats for sure.

I was debating wether to post this or not, but golf is golf and I guess we all go through tough times. I played the absolute worst I have ever played in my life yesterday. I stopped counting and debated on throwing my clubs in the water that my ball liked so much. I was extremely frustrated and just couldnt get out of my funk. What a horrible day, lessons learned though and I will keep at it and keep trying to get better.

I have heard that MP-20 is getting phased out. Mizuno told my fitter that MMC and standard MP20 is low on inventory and not coming back. Apparently they still have a lot of HMB heads.
Interesting, I hadn't heard that. Good to know though.

I haven't made it over there yet this year. Since they have NO trees, I'm waiting for cooler weather. Chris the pro at WV used to live near me; his mom lived across the street from me in Kennewick before I moved to Richland.
Hey man, if I didn’t have family playing I would have invited you, such a good course… I wish I was able to play it better. Some of my drives were just so far right I didn’t have a plan to fix the shot. Of course the greens were fast and I fortunately got lucky with some shots.

Are you going to try the MP-20 MMC if you try the HMB? If you have access to them at least.

Happy Birthday!

Very interested in this, how many irons are left to test?

All of the Spokane area courses are nice; more trees than we are used to here. Circling Raven is an excellent course. Love it. The ladies Symetra Tour is playing there at the end of August.
We played Gamble Sands a few years ago, and I would go back again
I played gamble sands before they had riding carts when they first opened up, it was nice and not busy at all. From my grandparents house I can see the course. I definately would go back again.

He was over north of Seattle, but is buying a house on the north side of Spokane. For the past 2 years my wife and I have played with Chris and Bill @fixyurdivot in the Spokane area. Last month we played 5 days: MeadowWood in Liberty Lake, Circling Raven on the south end of Lake Coeur d'Alene, Indian Canyon and Qualchen in Spokane, and Chewela north of Spokane.
@Thin2win Chris... have you moved yet??
Thats awesome I have heard of Circling Raven and would like to play one day, the closest I have even been to that area would be Gamble Sands and its still a pretty good ways away. Spokane is a pretty area and probably alot less busy than Seattle.

@Ethan21 This is coming from someone who makes every putt on greens he's never played before.
I can't look at the ball when I make a putting stroke. I don't remember how far the ball is from the hole, and I look up before I make contact. Bad move!!
I will still be taking lessons! Is @Thin2winin the area as well?

What have you done to get out of a funk?
in General Q&A

I am definately overthinking absolutely no question about that, everyone tells me I swing too hard at the ball and my backswing is too fast. All that stuff gets stuck in my head and I start looking crap up online and try to change it. I just need to go get some lessons and see what they say. I hope your back gets better and your swing comes around.
