Played Tri Mountain (Ridgefield, WA) yesterday, 43/39 for a total of 82, which I'm pretty happy with. Felt like I was playing the course all day, as opposed to the opposite, even with the usual 1-2 club afternoon wind. Iron striking was good on 90% of shots, driver was good contact and in play all day except for one that push-faded into a bunker (doubled that one), and though I mis-read too many long putts, many of the 4-8 footers were dropping.
Only one hole had me disappointed in myself...#6, short par 3. GIR, but about 45' from home. Putt was mostly downhill to a pin about 8 feet from the edge. I missed the "downhill" part, and it went off the green and about a foot into the rough. Instead of walking back to the bag for a wedge, I putted from the rough. Mistake. Walked off with a 5.
Round highlight: for once the ball listened to me ("Go in!!!"). Third shot on the par 5 13th, 139 yards out from the left rough, found the bottom of the cup for my first ever eagle. YES!!! Good contact, good flight, landed about 8 feet short. Making it even cooler was the surprise of actually hearing it hit the pin, removing any doubt.
    Good day on the course.

A few years ago, I went to Saint Andrews. We got there about 4:30 in the afternoon. We ask them if we could play. They said no problem just show up about five and you can sign up for a teatime. We said great. It is 430 now they said no five in the morning tomorrow! so I went up to the starter and said hey we are here to play he said do you have a time. I held out a 50 pound note he said you’re on the tee! we had just played Carnoustie and I bought a putter at Carnoustie made in the 1800s. I played Saint Andrews. On the road hole I hit the ball over the hotel, hit it on the green, and made the birdie putt with the putter that I had bought in Carnoustie!!

Sunday - went and worked on short game and putts.  Nothing else.  Shot a 78 including 3 Double Bogeys with two on the last two holes.  Was 2 under on back 9 with 2 to play.  Then two of the doubles.  Everything felt good.  Relaxed, easy swing, did not worry about a thing.

When I reserved the tee time a few days back, it had yesterday as the windiest day of the week. Tri-Mountain is usually pretty breezy in the afternoon anyway, but Weather Underground had it right. This was a bit more severe- not quite at a Bandon Dunes level, but still a two-club wind that had me hitting into bending flag poles all day. Managed it well at times, sometimes not-so-well. 8 GIR, but 5 of those were 40-50 foot "birdie" putts, and Tri Mountain's contoured greens were unkind at that distance...3-putts on the three that were over 50'.
This is what 86 at Tri Mountain looked like on this occasion. I'm content with that score, all things considered.

Played much better today! 44 / 39 for a decent 83. Only one birdie and only one double as well. Took me a bit to get on line, but once there I settled down to a round more reminiscent of my game before the latest surgery.
It was fun in the sun today!

I did not have the same game I had last week... and yet, I managed to scramble around and still found myself within striking distance of Par after the 13th hole.  Then I promptly forgot what I was doing and tripled the 14th and bogeyed the 15th.  Left my birdie putt in the jaws on 16 and made par, brushed the edge to save par on 17 and made bogey, finally lipping out my 17.5 foot hail mary birdie putt to stay under 80 and making par instead.  Another multi birdie day with, lots of up and downs, hit and miss driver play, and cagey approach to cover a shaky feeling iron swing.  Happy to have a good day when I wasn't feeling like my swing was at its best.

Perhaps a bit of salesmanship/corporate bias at play, but this video started me on the path that eventually ended in my purchasing an Axis1 Umbra (used) about 6 months after first viewing it. I couldn't justify dropping the coin for their modern designs, but I really like the balance of my Umbra, and I think it's improved my direction control. Also makes a nice nervous energy dissipator, what with the ability to twirl it with the shaft resting on my palm (golf version of a fidget spinner  😁 )

If you decide that the balanced/zero torque potential is most important to you, you might also have a look at Axis1. They've been making "torque free" putters for 10 or 15 years now, with the shaft axis passing through the CG/impact point of the head. The look bothers some players, but their more recent offerings have gotten less weird to look down at. Their latest designs are usually available to try out in larger golf stores or pro shops. Their web site also has most of their historical offerings. Not common on tour, if that matters to you, but they are out there in the hands of a few players (Justin Rose is the most well known). I play an Umbra.
    Whatever you decide, good luck!
