Just learned that my base has a simulator in the golf shop that I apparently became oblivious to. I’ve been in there so many times to pay for a round and just never noticed. Think I’m gonna start going there to get practice in and play some of the courses they have on there.

My ex used to work at a camera store, and she said all the OEM reps would come in and offer each salesperson spiffs if they were able to sell their brand. I think retail is retail—that said, at least there's a launch monitor that'll give the customer some info/proof of what's happening before making a choice. I don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me if that's what happened with @Bossfan.
Okay, I looked around, and I found Cool Clubs, Golftec and Club Champion all within reach of my travel day. Alas, TrueSpec is no longer/never was in the Bay Area. They all have appointments available. So I've got good options, free or paid. So now I just gotta think about which way to go about it.🤔
    Thanks for your input!

Wheelieb reacted to Travis A in Central VA in Used Golf Balls…Thumbs up or down?
Is everyone aware the lostgolfballs is owned by Acushnet, the parent company of Titleist? This is all public knowledge as they are not a privately owned company. Lostgolfballs outsources their refinishing to another company in VA. Obviously, in effect, they would not want to have someone representing Titleist that produced poor results. This would reflect directly on them.
Urethane is inert in H20. So, unless there are other caustic chemicals in the water hazard that a used ball has been retrieved from, then there is no effect whatsoever on a ball being in water for any amount of time. One should be concerned of the source of these chemicals if there is something that has made the cover deteriorate. If the ball is compromised by its time in the water, then it is not a ball that could have been recycled OR refinished/refurbushed regardless. These compromised balls should have been tossed out during quality control. The yellowing of golf balls in water is a result of the tannins from leaves and other items that have fallen into water hazards over time. These balls are the ones that are selected for refinishing as the ball itself has not been affected, only it's appearance.
There are currently three trusted companies supplying refinished and recycled balls to retailers in the USA. Professional Golf Services in Texas (lostgolfballs.com/Reload) in Dicks and Walmart, Challenge Golf in NC (Hit Me Again, no online presence) in Walmart, and Links Choice in VA (golfballnut.com/Tee It Again/Birdie Fuel) in Meijer, Dunham's, TJ Maxx, MArshalls, Sierra. MyGolfSpy should reach out to each of these for a direct test comparison. I am sure these companies would be willing to donate several dozen balls each to dispel any false assumptions. That being said, I know there are several other companies that "try" to refinish balls using old equipment and cheap materials. This video shows a test performed using one of these other companies and you can see the poor results of the process. These balls and video UK Refinished Test give the three good companies a bad look. I compare this to off brand China reproductions of good products. The results are never going to be to the level of the companies who have invested in good equipment, materials, and trained labor to sort and quality control these balls.
With over 300 million balls lost each year in the US alone, there will always be a market for this type of business. Of course, there will be better services provided by different companies. It is up to the consumer to identify and take advantage of this opportunity. Greens fees are never going down, the only way to save a buck is on equipment. Since clubs are not consumables (unless there is a mishap), naturally it falls to balls as gloves and tees are not renewable.

At a box store maybe. They are getting paid somehow by the store,  but it’s also why box store fittings aren’t the best.
an independent fitter who has spent time training and learning their craft not only should be paid but shouldn’t give a discount if one buys. You are paying the fitter their time and their experience.

Due to the terrible weather, our course is closed until next week. Was bored today so I headed out to the PGA Store to check out the new drivers.
I hit both the Callaway and TaylorMade.
I hit the Callaway Smoke, both Triple Diamond and Max very similar to my current drivers (TSI3 and Stealth).
I hit the TaylorMade Qi10 Max and Reg, Did not hit LS due to my spin numbers being good with the Max and Reg. I hit the regular Qi10 first and was surprised with the positive numbers. I then hit the max with the same shaft and was getting about the same numbers, but could not get used to the head size. Went back to the regular head and actually started hitting a few draws and that's a first for me.
Planning on going back in early February and doing another session to confirm the correct shaft, etc.
I really want to wait and see what and if Titleist comes out with in late fall, but don't know if I can resist the urge. 😬

I abandoned 1 course, it seemed like they didn't have enough space to finish all 18 holes. There is 25 yards of width between dense treed areas for the entire length of multiple par 4's. The trees themselves are not thick, so you don't get  favorable bounces back into play or the ball dropping straight down. 90% of the time it is a lost ball for anything slightly offline.
The 13th hole is 400 yard par 4 from middle tees playing straight into the prevailing wind. At 25 yards wide, I've been able to lose a ball with every possible club down to a 6 or 7 iron on either the tee shot or approach. Fairway is 15 yards wide the whole way except where it widens behind some trees so it is easier to roll behind them requiring a punch out. Average score is 6.2 (including many improper drops at point of entry)... Followed by a 90-100 yard par 3 that you could possibly tee off with a putter.
17th hole is a 270 yard par 4 down wind. Your best play is to try to drive the green next to a pond as at least that is a drop from red stakes and the fairway pinches to 10 yards wide at narrowest LOL. Widest part of hole is 100-140 yards from the tee, which is again roughly 25 yards wide between forested areas and you would hit your approach through a 15-20 yard window or over the edge of trees 50 yards in front of you.
These holes combined with a couple other holes that are gimmicky and don't appeal to me when the rest of the course is a links style made me realize it wasn't worth my money because I don't enjoy my time playing there versus other places and only went because it was the cheapest course kept in good condition with fast greens in the area. Which still required a 45 minute drive.

    Sounds like golf.

f you want to break 90, target a score of 5 on each hole.   Iron off the tee to get you in play, iron to on the green or close, get the ball on the green and 2 putt

Again, This is why I miss Edwin Watts in Florida. You go into any of their stores and fittings are free. They know they will get a sale regardless so why make you pay for it if they aren't getting any commission? That's how fittings should be. You should not have to pay to get fit for clubs. That's my opinion though.

So I’ve found that there are two courses I play, that for whatever reason I just don’t play well at. I go to play with my friends and I feel like it’s going to be the day I do well. But then that first tee comes and it’s like I have no idea what golf is or why I’m there. I’ve played those two courses numerous times, best score is a 98. And neither are that difficult or tight. Anyone else have that issue with a course?

I wouldn't say certain courses as much as certain holes.
There are some courses that I play and I get to the same hole every round and it just doesn't line up for my sight lines.  Could be the way the tees line up down the fairway or a hazard that is in view for a lefty that isn't for right handers.
