  1. I haven't played in three weeks so the short game was gone, I don't think it even left the garage this morning. But my ball striking was, some how, on point. I only played nine holes but I played two balls, shooting a 42 and 43. I can't complain seeing as I don't get to play as much as I used to. Also the course was in great shape and this is the best time of year for weather here.

PS don't mind the golf cart right next to the tee box [emoji15]

  2. This hole is the bane of my existence...there is OB right down the entire hole and red stakes down the left. You tee off slightly down hill and I've never played this hole into the wind, if it's blowing, it's at your back. From the tees I play, anything carrying over 250 is off the end of the fairway, which leaves well over 300 to the green. The "smart" layup area still leaves you about 140-170 out depending on how well the second shot is hit. So if I somehow manage to hit all my spots I'm left trying to hit this wicked green. The green is by far the worst part of this hole. You're hitting down hill to a crowned green that is 8ish paces front to back and 30ish yards wide. They shave the grass around the green so any missed green filters down to the bottom and leaves you with a flop shot because the green is at about eye level. I've gone back and forth more times than I can count. It's sad to say but I'm happy when I walk away with bogey. This hole is a round killer! It's #16 so it just lingers in my mind the whole round. This hole sums up what I don't like about courses. However I will add that even though I dislike this hole, I can say that it is brilliantly designed. It is just above my skill level.

  3. My favorite courses are ones that you have to think your way around. I don't like just taking driver off every tee and short iron or wedge into every green. Forced carries can get annoying but I do like forced layups, I like that it makes you play your second shot differently and play the course how it was designed to be played. I like well placed bunkers that make you play different shots. Long hard par 3's are great. I hate unfair greens. Like what hckymeyer said, a little miss with a big penalty. I don't mean with a hazard or something, but more so with the design and undulation. Small crowned greens shouldn't be allowed, Unless it's a risk/reward hole i.e. Short drivable par 4. The Ledges GC in Southern Utah is, in my opinion, a brilliantly designed course

  4. I notice that the number of rounds is starting to decrease. Sorry guys Florida weather is just rounding into form. The water is still warm. Come down and join us.

We are just getting into our "peak season" as well here in Southern Utah. Not quite the destination spot like Florida though.

  5. I finally got out and played a little bit this weekend. I couldn't hit an iron to save my life. Went to the range afterwards and made some adjustments and got it figured out. My son had the shot of the day. He's almost three so I usually tee it up for him by where they put the cart signs for the greens, just about 20 to 30 yards from the green depending on the hole. After about 8 "practice swings" he put it to 15 feet. Six putts later he was in with a triple bogey [emoji23] It was a great day all around.

  6. Getting a new job outside of the golf industry has definitely hurt my golf game. I'm not playing nearly as much. I did get out this weekend and shot 42/41. That's about all I can expect now that I don't practice and only get out once a week if I'm lucky. Here's to a higher handicap [emoji482]

  7. Been away for work most of the last several days and while I did not get to play I did win a putting contest at the center bar in my company's casino in the Bahamas. Granted it was 4 am and there may or may not have been tequilla involved, but there was a nice pile of cash involved that my wife has already claimed. Even managed to get an invite to Abaco to play golf with some staff of the PM of the Bahamas.

Someone needs to write book on your life...so much excitement and travel. I enjoy checking in on this thread for that reason.

  8. I got out this afternoon for a fun round with my son. We were the only ones on the course (my car temp said it was 108). I tried something I hadn't done before, I would hit three different types of shots into the green. It was really good for me to get that kind of practice in, plus it was kinda windy so I had that to work with as well. My son got some pretty good swings in as well. He's almost three and he accidentally knocked in a 30 footer. He was just trying to hit his ball towards me and it went in the cup. Both of us were pretty stoked. All in all it was a good time.

  9. So me and my coworkers were sitting around the shop and I asked if anyone had tried the new RZN black ball. No one had so I decided to be the guinea pig and give it a try. Boy am I happy with this ball. It has a little bit different sound to it but I wouldn't say it's bad, some people might but I wouldn't. I think with how advanced technology is and how accessible it is, most big companies are going to be able to produce a high quality tour ball that performs. Not many people around here play this ball and for some reason that makes me want to play it more. So for the next little bit I think I'm going to switch to this ball. It does everything I want/need it to do. I hope you guys have as much success with it as I have.

  10. I finally got out and played a round this morning. The front nine was a little rough to me. Actually I was rough to it. Just couldn't get things going. I got things turned around on the back nine and ended with a 41-36 for a +5 77. My ball striking hasn't been as good lately but the short game is dialed in, which I'll take any day of the week. Here are some pics. If you're ever in Southern Utah, make sure you stop and play Sky Mountain. The views are hard to beat!

  11. So about a month ago we put our house on the market and we accepted a full price offer that day. Since then life has been crazy and not a lot of time for golf. Between finding a new house and remodeling it to get it back to "livable standards" I had time to sneak 18 in. Apparently the time off was just what I needed, shot a +2, 74. I haven't played like that since before my knee surgery last summer. The highlight of the round was on a short (285yd) par 4, I put a 3 wood to about six feet and made the putt. I'm looking forward to getting my life back and playing more golf. Unfortunately I don't think I'll have too many more round like that.

A beautiful day nearly ruined by a round of golf. By far the most peculiar round I've ever had. 51 on the front and even on the back. Don't know what else to say except that I hope that never happens again...

  13. Callaway came out with a combo set of these earlier this year that you can only purchase through them: http://www.callawaygolf.com/golf-clubs/mens/iron-sets/irons-2016-apex-cf-pro-combo.html

They tweaked the lofts and finish to make them work well together. If I had one issue with them it would be that I would prefer the 7 iron in the Apex pro but other than that they're great.

Ahhh yes I forgot about them releasing a combo set.

  14. It's not my home course but a course I get to play every now and again, Entrada at Snow Canyon CC, has some nasty greens on it. There aren't a whole lot of tiered greens but the greens have multiple sections to them. If you leave yourself in the wrong spot you're screwed. One round I can remember I hit 14 greens and had 42 putts. I just could not find the right spot on the green that day. The members there complain if they let the greens get too quick because on some of the holes if you're out of position on the green, anything inside 10 feet is a good leave.

  15. Great looking set up! I really like the feel of the Apex Pro's and the regular Apex feel hot, the sound kinda throws me though. Did you have to adjust lofts doing a combo set in these irons?

  16. Every shot? Dang. It was 111 here, so I was sweating a bunch, I use one golf per nine. I use lampkin crossline corded's just because they really give me a good grip event though they are rough on my hands sometimes.

You should try the Lamkin UTx grips. They aren't as rough on your hands as the crossline cords but still have a good cord feel.

  17. I tried the look at the hole technique and it didn't really work for me. However, something that has helped me is I've started to pick a spot in my line just a couple inches in front of the ball to try and keep the putter square longer through impact. I don't know if it's just a new found confidence or it is really working but I like it, most of the time.

Stupidity or dedication? Hit the ball well again today. I'm still just struggling to get up-and-down and make putts. Just played 9. Seems like every time I play I have 4 bogeys and a birdie per 9. I guess I can't complain though.
