Created a new putting drill for myself ad hoc. This will be a good one for the winter.

My basement carpet is pergo so it's "grainy" and also has little slopes here and there. I took a plate from my daughter's kitchen set and it makes a nice cup as the center is about the right size.

You've gotta get the speed and direction just right or the plate will reject you to the side. Then I'll putt them back over coming back to practice shorties.

OUTTAKE: The "reject" was common when I was practicing but so difficult to reproduce on video. I didn't think this was possible but I did it more than once.

The pool....I didn't want one, still don't, my wife won't let me drain it and skateboard in it. It needs constant attention and I think it has some underlying major issues that I haven't figured out yet. Had to drain it completely and get it acid and chlorine washed this last year and I don't feel like that really helped anything all that much. It always has algae problems and I feel like I have to clean the filter once a week which I've been told should really only be a once a month to once every 3 month job.

props to Studque for the idea. Or blame if it goes horribly wrong. Ha

Played 9 today after not playing for a few weeks and played pretty well. Shot 5 over on an executive course which often plays more like 10 over, also official had my closest to a hole in one shot so far and I made the birdie put!

Worked on putting today. 150 year old house makes for more break than you would think.

My wrist is still pretty sore so I practiced what I could. I figured it would be a good day for "when it's breezy" practice. I've been needing to develop more versatility with my PW so I used it for the entire session.

Hit balls at 45, 65, 85, 95 into the wind focusing on shallow divots and low, stable flight. It's easy to lose it left or right when it's blowing this hard so I had to take my time prepping between shots. Periodically, I'd chip 4-5 balls to a spot in the fairway to try and get the grouping as small as possible.

Once I finished, I chipped everything that missed onto the green then hit the balls that landed in the sand about 40y backwards to my shag bag then chipped those onto the green.

Felt like a solid session. I definitely feel like I've got a few new shots in my bag that I can go to whether it's windy or not.

2 weeks ago, I was playing in a scramble. Once we got a few holes (and a number of beers) under our belts, I busted out the JBL Clip. We went on a tear for the remainder of the round.

    Coincidence? I think not.

Time revive this a little. I've been thinking about this since I listened to some music my last round. I noticed that if I was listening to a faster song my tempo sped up and if I listened to something slower it kept me from rushing. I think my next round I will listen to George Jones the whole time to see how it goes.

... And there it is. I would have no problems playing with that kind of commotion as I played QB thru college and it was always loud and chaotic. Yet we are all different in how we want to spend our 4-5 hours on a golf course. I can listen to music anywhere and do, including my car which I love, yet I can only commune with nature on the golf course. It is a respite from the electronic world I seek when I play and starting with gas golf carts, I prefer the solitude of walking and observing the natural world around me. I chose my courses not by layout first and foremost, but by how much nature the course embraces. So I avoid courses in housing developments and play on Forest Preserve type courses whenever possible.

... I am always amazed at younger players drinking and listening to music and tied to their phones that miss their surroundings completely. We saw a HUGE hawk descend on some kind of field rodent about 100 yds in front of us next to a green filled with music and drinking with this spectacular Nature Special happening 20 yds from them and they never saw it. After making sure it was dead, it flew to a tree with it's prey to finish his/her meal and these guys were completely oblivious.

I'll turn it down if I have to, but I'm firmly in the music is good camp.  At any given time we will have at least 3 speakers going in a round.  Yes they are probably too loud, yes 3 songs going can get weird but we don't really care.

I'll turn it down if we come up on a group but otherwise I want to hear the music.  Make golf fun, play music, drink a beer or 6.  Shoot the s*** with your buddies.  It's a game and it's time away from the kids to hang out with my buddies.  I'm going to enjoy it.

I broke par for the first time on the front nine of my course today... in the wind.  The front nine is a par 37.  I eagled #9 from 128 out to shoot -1 or 36.  My previous best was on the front nine was +1 or 38, which I did twice in the last two weeks.

Now if I could just do that when playing 18 holes; my personal best on the back nine is also -1 or 34.

Sounds like in your case "motion is lotion". Ankle pumps and circles throughout your day, everyday might help. Given your history it may even be worth a Physical Therapy visit or several. They'd be able to assess it more thoroughly, mobilize it for you and give you some better exercises.

Got in a round with downlowkey this morning ahead of the big storm tomorrow. Weather was perfect. Decent course. Lots of fun and downlow is a stick. City Park in Denver.

I snuck in a quick round at South Mountain while I was in SLC,UT. Very well designed course. Between design and 30mph winds, I sucked. But at least I had this view.
