  1. I tested C2 and D2 on the range before playing. D2 felt great so I took it to the course. After piping the first tee shot 315, I was sure I made the right choice. The middle 5 holes don't require driver but on 7,8, and 9 I snap hooked the tee shots something terrible.

I feel like I'm getting into the right neighborhood as the upright lie felt good so maybe I'll give B2 and C3 a shot next time.

  2. Just went out for 9 today. We figured we'd play from the tips for once to get a different look at the course even though it was quite windy out. I tell you what, that was extremely enjoyable because you really had to attack the course in a totally new way. The sight lines for our course are basically the same from white to blue but are drastically different from blue to gold.

So to the score: I was 2 under after 4 and the swing felt great. I texted my wife at this point to see if I could stay for 18 and try to break 80 for the first time. Of course the wheels fell off once she vetoed me (mother in law's birthday party) and I had to kick the scramble game into high gear just to finish with a +3 39.

    Until next time!

For those that have or used to have Titleist drivers, what setting did you use and how'd you get there?

I'm still trying to find my sweet spot and would love to hear from those who properly tuned theirs as to what extra things I should be looking for to identify my correct fitting.

Here's a link to how far I've gotten thus far:

  4. Hitting live pitching once every five or six days in a game situation is not easy. At that level you need reps and a lot of them. When I got to the collegiate level I stayed on the mound for that exact reason and pinch hit once or twice a week and played about five games a season in the field. I was all world in the cage during BP and hit about .200 in game situations.

Yup. Whole different ball game when the pitcher is actually trying to get you out lol.

  5. All valid points. I know the game has changed a lot in recent years, just like pro golf. I remember watching baseball when I was a kid, and sure many pitchers were easy outs, but there were always a few who could actually hit pretty well, and bunt better.

There's still a few that can hit but we're talking 2-3 pitchers out of the whole league. Micah Owings comes to mind as someone who was a good hitting pitcher. He actually made the switch to full time outfielder.

Bunting is no easy task either. That takes a bunch of practice by itself.

  6. Why is it that the pitcher is a player that needs a DH? Sure they throw anywhere between 20 and 110 pitches during a game, but then have a few days off until their next start. They should have time for batting practice. When I was a kid through Little League and H.S. baseball, the pitcher was usually the best player on a team, including the best hitter. They get to the pros and they all of sudden they need a DH?

Once you get to the higher levels, it takes an extreme amount of practice to be able to hit successfully. The pitchers get better and better as you move up the ranks and you can't just step up to the plate and smack it around the park.

The same goes for pitching. In between starts, there's a comprehensive day-by-day conditioning and throwing routine that you must go through to be ready for your next start. While you're not on the mind throwing, you're definitely not wasting your time.

Put those together, and there's not enough hours in the day to be good at both.

It's for this reason that pitchers either don't hit (AL) or are easy outs (NL). It's for this same reason that you don't see your right fielder coming in to pitch unless you're getting blown out.

As far as the DH/no DH argument, I like having both. Both leagues have their own identity. Without DH, there would be no David Ortiz (for you Boston fans). I'm all for rules that give players a chance for success that would otherwise not exist. See the careers of the long putter guys for a prime example.

  7. I use Sky Droid. You get a lot for $2 and the yardages match laser rangefinders when I compare side by side.

It gives birds eye view, zoom to greens, distances to F/M/C, distances to points of interest, and custom distances as well. Big package for a small price and no subscription.

  8. I used to play music when I first started playing for the atmosphere since we were terrible anyway. As I got better (and more knowledgeable of etiquette), I stopped that unless I was on the range with headphones.

In a league match recently, our opponents were blasting a Beats Pill with their music. At first, it was disorienting since I basically never see it on the course and my partner got super pissed. He's the type that loves it 80's and no wind so adversity isn't exactly his thing. I drew back on my days playing baseball in front of thousands night in and night out and was able to calm my thoughts. I had to act as his psychologist and help him calm his as well and we both ended up winning our matches as a result.

While they were definitely in poor taste playing their music, it relieved any pressure from me for having to be quiet while they hit or putt. IMO, music is a fine atmospheric enhancement once you get used to it because it can help loosen up your nerves. This is a game after all.

  9. Ok. I am effing done with these gosh dang hacks/punks. I was at the chipping green/putting green getting some legitimate practice in. They come up beers in hand, turn their F'n radio on and begin hitting rockets on the green. They actually hit my putter, and damn near hit me in the head. So I left, basically "Hack-Bullied" off the practice site. Then they decided to make some smart ass comments "leaving already". I do not like golf if this is the direction it is going. The punks ruined my practice session and I was only half way through it.... son of a b**** I am mad. Go party somewhere else!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I honestly don't see too much of that and am surprised to hear people conduct themselves like that.

  10. I'm liking it so far. Anxious to give the camera a good work out next week when the Mizuno irons arrive.

Should have never gone away from the fruit. Last IPhone I had was the 4.

I'm due for an upgrade when the 8 comes out. Hopefully Verizon will run some sort of special to make it affordable.
