  1. I'm blowing out 10 sprinkler stations tonight on a .33 acre lot with a 3gal harbor freight pancake compressor rigged up to a 7gal auxiliary tank. Or as many of you would figure, working on an emergency air compressor upgrade!
  2. I'm curious what the shafts are on each. You could be in the perfect shaft with the old ones and have a terrible fit with the new ones. The more forgiving clubhead might not make up for a very inconsistent delivery with a bad shaft (for you). As the others said, though, it could be in your head. It's crazy what that blob of cells in your head is capable of. Edit: I am referring to all human brains as a blob of cells, not singling yours out!
  3. Snuck out with a friend for a quick 9 on the executive course I played couples league at. Shot a 34 (+3) again which seems to be a barrier I just can't break there. Iron play was close to trash. Chipping was a complete mixed bag. The putter saved me multiple times. I am guessing it knows it is on notice with a testing opportunity coming up. If the Cameron keeps this up, the Cleveland Frontline will need to be quite stellar to work itself into the rotation. Based off of @chisag 's last putting tip I moved the ball forward about a ball in the stance and it worked for a short round. Let's hope that is sustainable.
  4. Rev, I think if the OEMs were pushing a club selection strategy to make more money, they would be pushing more $400 woods than $200 wedges. I can count on two hands in the last year that I have used my hybrid, driving iron or 4 iron. I hit that many wedges less than two rounds. Broadie showed how Tiger smashed the field in his prime. I just don't see how the typical amateur is going to improve that much trying to learn how to stick 4 and 5 irons in birdie range. I had a laminated card with all my partial wedge distances. It made selection of a wedge a 5 second process. I lost it and have reverted to a one wedge tactic and my game is suffering for it. I have started using the rule of 12 recently when I am in chipping range and have liked that a lot.
  5. Very nice. I built a set of Snake Eyes wedges back in the day but they cost me more in balls than I saved on the clubs. Those things would turn half a ProV1 into spaghetti on a full wedge shot. Instead of learning to swing less than 110% (the real problem) I ended up letting them go. They did feel great though. Did you buy these assembled or put them together yourself?
  6. Wishon, Maltby, even Hogan, Sub70, Lynx, and Tommy Armour etc. were exactly what I was referring to by "off brand". Anything that you won't find in a PGA Tour SS or Golf Galaxy. I certainly wasn't referring to them as being inferior. My bag is nearly full of them. At first glance, a counterfeit will will probably get less sneers on the first tee as any of these, but these guys are at least paying someone (whether internally or outsourced) to do their development work. Lynx had some models eerily similar to some other brands, but if they went through the proper channels to get the rights to use those dies/moldings, then more power to them. Stealing the work of others and selling on the cheap is not a route I would want to go. Just because components from the big brands also come from China doesn't mean they are cheap copies of someone else's work.
  7. You must have missed that release...It was between the 718 irons and TS3 woods. Feb 29, 2018 if I recall correctly. I am not opposed to going with off-brands that don't have huge advertising budgets to save a few bucks. But the counterfeit market just gives me the goosebumps. I will admit, I have purchased some "Bay Rans" on the beach at an unbelievable price. Fate would have it that they ended up on the bottom of the ocean a day later when I was bucked off a kayak.
  8. When I was in Peru there was one course in our city. Two of the par three's were almost unreachable with my long irons, so I switched from the Hogan Apex Edge to the Adams IdeaTech A4 which had hybrids for the 3 and 4. Eventually I got back to the point where I could reach those with my 5 iron. Now I have the PTx irons. They are in the bag for no other reason than Hogan was back in the game, I was excited and I found a barely used set for 30% of MSRP (Hogan didn't last long with that business model!). They have C-Taper Stiff shafts in the irons and Tour V Stiff shafts in the wedges, which makes nearly no sense according to everything I have learned since that purchase. I can hit the C-Tapers, but in trying some others, I find I have to work much less to get the same output with a less manly shaft. Currently, only my driver is in the bag based on any real testing or reason. I have replaced my wife's whole bag this year, so maybe a quid pro quo will let me completely reevaluate the rest of the bag if Club Champion does another 50% off fittings in the winter.
  9. Did he give any explanation on what style putter or alignment aid would be beneficial to you based on your eye dominance? I am left eye dominant and find I do better with alignment if it has a line on the topline of the putter. So many only have a line behind the topline near the bottom. Now whether I can get the ball on that line...we will have to try Chisag's tip to see if I can improve on that.
  10. I have seen 50 yd differences in simulators at different golf shops around here.
  11. The first thing that jumps out at me is that they almost completely removed the word "soft" from that press release. It's interesting that MGS comes out with the "soft is slow" slogan, and a few months later Titleist removes the TruSoft from their lineup and rebrands it (slightly modified?) as a TruFeel. Maybe there is no correlation here, but the timing is interesting.
  12. Our weather here has been amazing the last couple of weeks. I pray we can get another month of this before things start to really get cold. After most of a season the ZGRIPS have held up great. I don't think I have wiped them down once and they still feel great. They have even survived a few trips to Top Golf (chicken wing fingers). I may have had some wandering eyes recently. In perusing the custom options for the 919 Forged irons I smiled when I saw that the ZGRIP Align was a no cost upgrade. I had applied for this test to try the MCC Align and wasn't too thrilled when we learned there was a mixup and those weren't supposed to be included. Now I'm glad it worked out the way it did. I think any new irons will get these put on sooner than later.
  13. I would agree with this. While it was nowhere near a "Most Wanted" test, I rate it at a "results indicate there is promise...further investigation needed." My guess is that it is totally strike location based. One could tee up a ball with a wood tee to that same height and get the same results. Per my previous post, there are some people who just can't put the tee in the ground to the right height (looking at myself in the mirror here...)
  14. I would disagree with any claims that one tee can provide any added distance over another if it is teed up at the same height. In some other thread someone did the legwork and pulled up whatever USGA rule would outlaw any tee that provided extra distance, I believe. That being said, I ran into a similar situation as you on Monday. I used to be the longest off the tee in our regular group. As that claim to fame started to dwindle, I went through a couple of drivers. The G400 LST was the shining star on a demo day and several sessions in a simulator, but I just wasn't seeing the benefits on the course. Drives I felt like I smashed were right there in the fairway right next to guys that should have been a Walmart behind me. I used to tee it up really high when I had the Adams Insight XTD driver. I think that played at 46" or even a little longer. My setup on the tee probably resembled that of a long drive competition with the ball teed up 3.25". Out of dumb luck I hit some balls off a mat that had lower tees and I saw a completely different ball flight. There were a couple instances over the last few rounds where I had noticed something similar, and I finally linked it to the height I was teeing up the ball. In couples league on Monday two of my drives were at least 20yds further than I had hit on those holes all season. To make a long story longer, I would argue that a tee can't help you hit it farther. But it sure can help you to tee the ball up correctly. And that surely can make a difference. I wouldn't have believed the difference it does make until seeing it for myself this week.
  15. Haven't hit one of these yet. How does it compare to the Elevado? It seems like I would like the alignment line on here better than the SOFT 11. The face looks a lot different than my (wife's) Elevado. That was more like a meat tenderizer and this seems like a flatter face. Does this feel less soft?
  16. Have you tried the Ping Tour Shaft? I checked into getting an X-stiff to replace my S and a local shop was able to get it in for $60 or so. In the several times I tried the G400 out at various stores, I was never able to get a noticeable improvement with any of the other reasonably cheap options.
  17. Me too. And the Srixon ZStar XV's hold up way too well. And this explains my lack of birdies using that dang Srixon...
  18. Yes to this. I can't think of the last time I saw a yardage tag on a sprinkler. There are markers in the middle of the fairway at 100, 150, 200, 250, but I seem to never pass those for some reason. A few places have the 150 post, but I probably wouldn't get the distance to that right either. I agree estimating yardage is a skill, but I dont think many courses are set up to allow that to happen in a reasonable amount of time if you rely on markers to do it.
  19. I sold my youngest's US Kids set as he outgrew them and haven't replaced them yet. It looks like these Wilson sets are close to $100 less than any of the big branded junior sets. Any big holdups that anyone sees to make the extra $100 worth it?
  20. I wouldn't buy those...but could you tell me exactly where "locally" is??
  21. Any suggestions for a good classic looking but modern/accessible grip for a set of 1980's blades? Tour wraps? Tour velvet?
  22. Found a practically new used Scotty 5.5m the other day. This was what I wanted last year but couldn't pull the trigger at the new price so I went to the shop to grab a Ping Tyne and ended up with the Cleveland Elevado. The tow hang in the scotty feels so much better. I also like the line on the top of the face and the two long alignment lines. I feel so much more confident where I am lined up. I also like the feel of the face better. The elevado just felt like mush and I found distance control to be tricky at times. I handed the elevado down to my wife and it is working out for her. Also snagged a Cobra F6 combo set in senior flex for her with an aero burner 3 wood. I figure it can't hurt to flood her with golf gifts to lessen the impact of coming home with a set of ping glide 3.0 wedges, no?
