As many have said I wear loads of light thin layers so I can take off or put on depending on temperature and wind chill. the layers tend to be mostly short sleeve to keep the weight off my arms and 2 sets of waterproof tops a very light one which suffices 90% of the time and a heavier one for really cold or heavier rain.
    Top
Nike crew neck short sleeve Normal golf polo t shirt Sleeveless 1/4 zip Wool 1/4 zip Kjus lightweight  rain/windstopper Galvin Green Full waterproof jacket Bottom
UA Thermal Trousers UA Lightweight waterproofs Galvin Green Alf Full waterproof trousers Stubburt golf boots with stinger cleets For me the only thing that stops me playing is snow on the ground. Although further North than Ottawa,  Scotland is a temperate climate so rarely gets below 20'F, even with the ground frozen I'll be out.

My experience with the hip replacement has been solid.  Right handed, right hip in 2016.
Surgery was in November and by January I was swinging, carefully.  By spring I was at full speed.
PT consistent of visits at the house, in-home care.  Mainly the ladies gave me exercises and checked on my progress, the rest was left up to me.
I think the main thing that helped me recover as fast as I did was walking in the house.  I’d walk a figure eight around the house until my body said to stop, and I did.  When I felt better I’d get up and go again.  My wife thought I was overdoing in the beginning but when progress started coming quickly and the PT ladies offered encouragement, she stopped that nagging.
To be fair the PT ladies said I was the easiest case they had ever had.  Maybe I was one in a hundred, I don’t know.
Today I never think about hip, never know it’s there.  Feels just like my real hip.

Now the knee replacement?  Not as good 🙁

Well, that was exhausting. I went right into drivers after doing a superspeed workout. not sure that is how you are supposed to do it, but you do what you can in the time you have right?
Driver data, I took 1 bad shot off the entire group, it was all bad and didn't need to reflect poorly on the ball(it was the noodle). I hit shots with all of them that I felt were playable, still its golf and I'm not named Matt, or a robot. I'm not going to flood the screen with all the ball data charts, I'll just throw up the averages because... in Driver at least, there is a pretty clear winner. Both in distance and dispersion.

    Do you all agree?
After two tests of staying in the game, the Kirkland showed its spin in full power on driver, wow.
Stay tuned for next week, I have some balls that arrived in the mail from @Londo to test against 1 or 2 more I have, and I think that will complete the first round of the bracket.

Had a full RT hip replacement the first week of Aug this year. I am 76 and had the LT hip replaced 11 years ago. At 4 weeks was chipping/putting with no issues. Actually hit some full shots but did not want to push it so kept that to a minimum.
Played 9 holes at 6 weeks with full swings, tried to keep it to around 80% effort but you know how that goes. Have been playing 3 or 4 times a week in December and don't even think about the Hip during play.
The incision still has a little "puffy" feeling to it but I think almost all trauma in the muscles has repaired and flexibility is as good as it is probably going to get.
Do your PT and stretching exercises - very important.

So I can totally do that for you! The ball makes a lot of difference, or maybe none at all! From an actual strokes gained number, if you find a ball that adds 5% more distance (say 225y to 238y) due to spin/launch characteristics, then you are talking about almost  .4 strokes gained on each drive(pulling these numbers from a strokes gained site).
So, if there is a ball that can do that, then yes there is real scoring to be had.
If you are already playing a ball that gives you the best performance, then what Tony C has been preaching for a couple years is really visible in this data, play the same ball. They all do fly, land, and roll out a bit different, some are drastically different. Can you score with any of them? Yes, but you need to hit a different approach with a 2 piece surlyn vs a 3 or 4 piece urethane. So just knowing how the ball will behave is big.
I think I had become a real ball snob over the last 3 years on this forum, but after this testing so far I have a different opinion of 2 piece balls. They spin less around the green, but if you play a bump and run that isn't an issue and might be preferable. I thought I would see a big drop off in driver distance, and I haven't seen that. So yeah.
I know the pro's all talk about finding the ball that works for your short game and work back to the driver. I think for them that is the right path, and I'm not sure that it isn't right for us either. But... I think maybe just going full Bryson and finding the ball that goes the furthest off the tee will give you the best scoring option.

It's SWMBO's birthday today and she is a bigger golf nut than me so we played 18.  Temp is warm for mid Dec at 59* but it was very windy...15mph at least for most of the day.  She is hitting the early birthday present G410 irons real well and shot a 79.
For me two's were wild today but not on the scorecard...2 doubles, 2 bogeys and 2 birdies for a 76.  Putting stroke has made an appearance after taking 1-1/2 months off.  One of those doubles was a 4 putt because the wind blew the ball back to my feet twice after i hit an uphill 15'er.  Same thing happened on another hole but only once for a 3 putt.  Even with those I was still thrilled with my putting overall with 31 putts.
Shot / hole of the day was a pulled drive that the wind did not bring back ending up on the edge of a steep creek bed, had to swing left handed, 7 iron toe hit that moved the ball about 30 yards into the fairway and I nipped a wedge to about 5' and saved par by sinking the putt!
It was a fun day...done in 2:54 since we jumped around a couple times to escape the slow play in front of us before circling back around to get those holes in.

All the work you've put into this has left me with one clear takeaway and definitive correlation to Tony's results... Kirkland Signature will no longer be amongst the handful of those I play.  It also suggests no one ball stands out as the best match for your game.  You'll need to consider durability and cost.

I'm not sure what the Kirkland is going to do on driver day, but just in numbers I don't have any issues with it through wedge and iron. In the subjective "feel" category, it is the worst sounding/feeling ball I've hit in the entire test. Sounds like hard plastic when it gets hit, too the point where I thought I mishit the first half dozen shots I took with it before realizing that is just how that ball is.

toehold57 got a reaction from Syks7 in 2021 is winding down. How did your year of golf play out for you?
I don’t keep a handicap but it certainly would have dropped this year.  I’ve dropped from mid to high 80’s down to the low to mid 80’s.  If I can tame my blow up holes I’ll be in the 70’s. Snowman be gone!  That’s my goal for next year.
Nothing changed as far as equipment goes, just picked up a few tips that really solidify my swing.  I also practice putting in the house while on conference calls.  I don’t aim make a putt although it does help the ego.  I aim to roll the ball end over end.  For indoor practice on carpet I think that’s all I can hope for.

toehold57 reacted to Tom the Golf Nut in Is it the cost or time factor that deters many ?
A question with to many variables.
The average cost of a round of golf in the US is $61.00 for 18 holes and $33.00 for 9 holes based on 2020 data. Do you make enough money to afford spending that much on a hobby? Each of us will have a different answer on how many rounds we want to and can afford to play a week, a month, or a year. Are you on a budget or maybe a fixed retirement income? Can you afford to be part of a country club? Then you can play all the golf you want but you have to pay your monthly dues.
Time is dependent on ones situation. Are you married with small children, are they involved in sports? Are you retired with plenty of time on you hands?
We are all on this site because we like to play golf. Some would like to play more but funds and time are limited. Others don't have these concerns. But some time in our lives we all had factors that limited our play time. Depending on where you live, you can find courses on a budget for $30.00. Other places it's not happening.
Speaking for myself everything changes over time. In my 30's and 40's it was budget and children which equates to not enough money or time. In my late 40's I relocated and golf was much more affordable in my new area and my youngest children were 2 and 4 at the time. Then joining a country club was a wise choice. My kids had a place to swim, play tennis, and learn to golf and most importantly grow up in a safe environment. While they swam at the pool I played golf. Even though the youngest is 18 now and away at college I still can only play once a week and occasionally twice a week. I still am working full time so I don't have as much time to play as I would like to. I'm still a weekend warrior! Someday that will change.

Played in my first 2 Day Major for the US AM Tour down in the La Canetera Course, Palmer ( soon to be taken down to build house, shame its such a great course) and the Resort Course, in San Antonio, TX.
First day I was able to play to a solid 82 considering that I shank a 9 iron into the woods on the par 3 to take a 7, my only other in the score card and a improvable chip in on 18th.
Second day with a 4 stroke lead was cruising along to start the round, when the weather change to 30-40mphs winds and cold winds. Then it was survival for everyone to make it to the club house in one piece.

Game was ok, not spectacular but decent and didn't crumble under pressure of competition.
Came out a victorious at the end , first day lead was huge and help to preserve the lead while I was leaking a little oil coming into the finish line.

An overhead system is far easier to manage, followed by radar behind the hitting area. Side on camera systems are great for accuracy and reducing indoor space. But switching for lefties is a pain and you wouldn't want a sim being moved back and forth 100X per hour when you have mixed groups. The uneekor systems are similar in price to the GC3 or Launch Pro by the time you add a subscription.

Yet another day in the 60’s here, although it was the low 60’s.  Why would that matter?  Because I rushed out of the house and didn’t pick up my quarter zip and I wore shorts today.  Chilled all day.
Add in that the back & left wrist were stiff and sore and it doesn’t make for most fun round in the world.  But it still beats being at work!  Can I get a Amen?
Back at Patty Jewitt again, third week in a row.  Surprised I came away with an 82, it felt worse than that.
