Yes, I am one of the testers and can try to answer some of the process questions but remember I am not on MGS staff so what I say may not be 100% accurate.

First the approach to MGS testing is to test off the shelf configurations. This is because most golfers go in to a store, pick some clubs, and buy them. maybe they will try some different shafts but basically no fitting.

Gapping of Clubs and adjusting lofts is something each player should do in a proper fitting.

As for the clubs in the test,
COVID has impacted testing and while newer clubs were out, they were not available when testing starts.

Clubs in each category are provided by the manufacturer and I don’t know how much influence or decision making MGS has in the categorization.

Often MGS will buy other clubs that are of interest to players. COVID probably had an impact on this.

People are obsessed with distance so it is always something that is included in the results. If distance isn’t a priority for you pick what has the best dispersion for you.

If you don’t like loft Jacked irons, don’t buy them. This is what manufacturers make.

The winner may not be the best fit you; so you should try the clubs you are interested in to see if they work for you. This most wanted winner is the club that best fit the testers

Some of the manufacturers provide multiple sets with different shafts some don’t. So if the shaft doesn’t work for you it will impact performance.

Let’s look at PXG. The stock configuration often results in low
Hooks for me. These are great clubs and if properly fit I am sure I could find a configuration that works.

    New England Region what’s good?

Started playing golf at 7 years old to spend time with my father on the weekends and fell in love with the game a few years later. I’ve been playing for 25 years now and was at my best a 0 index before I had my two girls. Now a 3.5 index and steadily going up. My average score this year is a 76.8 but would like to be around 74 or better.
I love golf for the life lessons is has taught me. The challenge of playing vs. par and playing against yourself each and every time. The mental conditioning and mindset growth it forces. I love what golf teaches me about me and what it teaches me about other people and how it can be a life-long sport. Being outside and playing with family and great friends doesn’t get any better.
I joined the forum a few months after I started to follow the mygolfspy Instagram page and really liked the honest reviews and videos posted which gives me confidence to try new products and give up others. I have recently bought the Mizuno golf gloves, the Snell MTB-X balls and TP5x balls from reading the MyGolfSpys reviews.
Live in Brookfield, CT. I play at Washington Golf Club mostly now and love playing my old track Ridgewood CC also Oxford Greens, Richter Park, Lake Waramaug CC, Candlewood Valley, Waterbury, Yale, Bulls Bridge and Centennial I try and play each once every season.

Best thing about my area of courses is they have been in excellent shape the past 3-4 years. The greens are generally fast and run nicely. The season is short and playing in the cold sucks with extra layers on.

How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score?  I've been playing about 15 years. My index is 20, and hasn't budged.
What do you love about golf?  I love being outdoors, and the eternal challenge of improving.
What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies?  Not sure how I found MyGolfSpy, I think it was equipment reviews.  I am going to donate some bucks after completing this profile
Where are you from? What is your home course?  I live in Wilton, CT.  I usually work in NYC but since COVID-19, have been working in Westport, CT. I used to belong to Silvermine GC, but thanks to work, I get to travel and play some cool courses. The course I play most frequently is The Griff in Greenwich
What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? Best:  we have some of the greatest classic courses in the whole country a half-hour drive away. Worst: I could never join those clubs
What do you do for a living? Banking
How’d you pick your user name? Combination of my nickname and the coolest number in the world
Huge Syracuse Orange fan, as you can see from this photo!

lots to go through here so just going to add names of talking points.
@chisag fully agree with bringing back original design of course, the difficult part of this is money, granted these big name courses have it but we are talking some big bucks to adjust even half the holes on a course. I do think this is the most logical approach though.
@PMookie nailed it on the head. Bryson studied. No one had him winning last week because he “isn’t accurate” but he took the tournament down. Granted you still have to play well. The game was still a fantastic product to watch.
give me the golf we have been getting the past couple years. And while we are at it give me Sammy Sosa, Mark McGuire and Barry bonds baseball too 💉💪

I've been working on my putting a lot this offseason on a mat in my spare bedroom.  I had been using a two thumb type grip (similar to what GolfSpy MPR uses), but switched to something a bit more like a two-finger overlap grip.  While I really like the balance the dual thumbs with fingers down the side provided, I wasn't able to get the forward press I like to use to feel comfortable, which was leading to some face angle issues.
As a sidenote, I've been struggling with an inexplicable tendency to pull my putts to the left the last couple weeks.  Checked that I wasn't putting sidespin on the ball, checked to make sure the ball was getting online... I tried everything.  I tried changing grips, nothing worked - couldn't figure it out.  It dawned on me this morning that it might not be my fault so I checked the floor.  Sure enough, my putting mat was on an uneven part of the floor and apparently reading hardwoods are not my strongpoint.  Moved the mat and magically everything straightened out.

I love it.  Growing up on the Jersey shore, we didn't get a ton of snow, but we did get snow every winter.  We'd sneak out onto the course where we worked and play as soon there was more grass than snow.  We'd just use yellow balls.  We'd also have temporary greens until March; we'd actually start our high school season on temp greens.
In Central VA, we don't get much snow, but we do get cold weather from time to time.  The cold doesn't bother me much as long as it's not windy and my back is cooperating.  The winter is a great time to play match play, or play with a short set, or come up with any excuse to play without keeping score.  I've hit a green by bouncing a ball off a frozen water hazard, and I've hit a wedge into a green so frozen, the ball bounced like it hit a cart path.

At my old course a 9-hole exec we played all year long.  We don't get much snow (usually), but one year we got an inch or two.  Temp was below freezing.  The pro shoveled off the greens on holes #1, 2, 4, 7, 8 and 9, and a path from the front of the green toward the fairway. When we missed the green... likely, we moved the ball to the grass in front of the green and chipped from there.  That was the route we took... 6 holes!   Headed to the clubhouse and a hot fire, a drink or two, and repeat 2 more times.

I have played in -4 F temps with 10-15 mph wind gusts.
I live on the Montreal South-Shore. I was a member at the International 2000 GC, in Lacolle, Qc. It prides itself of being the first to open and the last to close in Quebec. It is located 3 miles from the Champlain US border crossing.
In 2007, I played my last 36 holes on Jan. 7th, 2008. I was back on the course on March 16....I was 62 yrs/o at the time.

Happy to report that with a few weekend course openings already this season, I've made some progress on this challenge even in the New England weather!
I think I was very much correct about the easiest holes... I've already completed all but 1 of those pars.  However, I was pleased to note that I've parred two of the hard holes as well.  Seems like a real possibility I can finish this off in the next couple months, and then start the birdie challenge.  I doubt I'll complete all 18 of those, but I would be thrilled to make 9.

Am I wrong to be a bit surprised at the price of these putters? I guess it will depend on how they perform, but a quick Google showed me I can grab a Bettinardi 2020 BB8 Wide for $300 or an Evnroll ER2 Mid-blade for $329. I think I would have expected the TA to be closer to the $200 range, but maybe I'm just crazy

Agreed. You can't take that away from him. It's just a shame he's brought the controversy on himself, because he doesn't need to cheat to win tournaments... So why do that to yourself and to the game?
