revkev
I'm sure most of you have seen the Dick's commercials with Arnold Palmer talking about Swinging your Swing - I love it! I find it very endearing and compelling. Dont' know how much Arnie we will have left and this was classic. BIG STU
Yep! one of the best ever I have always said it I have always done it. I am sure it has "ticked off" a bunch of golf instructor gurus. MattF
I love that commercial! It had a profound effect on me and got me thinking about my swing. I went back to what felt good to me instead of the swing that I had been using and have played some of my best golf in the latter part of this season than I ever have. Swing your swing! whiskey golf
Well said about the mechanics if you were taught them at an early stage of your golfing and do not try to get too mechanical. One person that comes to mind on being too mechanical is Charles Howell III Being too mechanical ruined golf for me for a little bit. The end of my sophomore year, after the season, I was frustrated that my scores weren't improving even though I spent all this time on "essential" mechanics and all this time on instruction. Then junior year I winged it and just did what was comfortable and kind of ditched how my swing looked. Although I dreamed of lower scores, I did lower my average from the previous year. Lately I have been doing what's comfortable but keeping some mechanics and I've noticed that it's helped my consistency a little more so I will probably do that this year. My goal is to lower my average more which means I will have been consistently improving every year by my score stats, not every graduating player can say that they have done that. SMRT
I thought of this over the weekend at the new Golf Galaxy grand opening. I went in and was hitting some new Ping wedges and the guy came over and immediately and said, "Well, first you need to do this with your stance." This commercial popped into my head and I replied, "No I don't." Best commercial EVER!

My goal is to lower my average more which means I will have been consistently improving every year by my score stats, not every graduating player can say that they have done that. That is exactly what happened to me 8 years ago. I had starting back playing competitively again after 10 years or so. I had a guru that I know so to speak tried to change everything about my game even my putting. Got me so fouled up I absolutely could not play muchless putt. My other friend who is one of the top instructors on the beach finally told me when we were playing one day "quit thinking and hit the freaking ball your way" that was long before Mr Palmer's commercial. I am not a technical player I am a feel player and a instinct putter. My only problem was and always had been course management which in the words of a now deceased friend "absolutely sucks" I am working on that and improving though Driver ---- Callaway Big Bertha Alpha Speeder 565 R flex- 5W TM V-Steel Fubuki 60r--- 7W TM V-Steel UST Pro Force Gold 65R----- 9 W TM V Steel TM MAS stiff---- Irons 2015 TM TP CB Steel Fiber 95 R--- GW Callaway Mack Daddy 2 52* shaft unknown junk pile refugee. JohnBarry
Love it, and I am devoting myself to get back to my old swing before I started making all kinds of changes, I used to hit it so much more pure. HighFade
That really applies to me too. Mostly in putting. I kept trying to be mechanically sound, but I found that just lining it up at making a natural stroke was SOOOO much better. Especially on long putts. There is no spoon.
