STUDque
Besides the insatiable desire to get new equipment, how can you tell when your wedges are truly ready for a refresh? I bought mine used on eBay and have had them for 5 years since. I keep the grips clean and hit them up with a groove sharpener 2-3 times per season. I look to make some changes in the type/loft/shaft in my next set of wedges but would like to gauge how much life these have left. revkev
When I've thrown it in a pond. That's when it's time to buy a new one. I used the same wedges for five or six years and only changed because of the groove rule. I've had the same bottom two wedges since then. They look worn, more worn than yours. They work fine and I play a course that has deep rough and firm greens. silver & black
Maybe I'm just cynical, but I just don't see how a golf ball with a soft cover is going to wear out grooves on a steel club face.... at least for a looooong time. I use my stuff for many years before the urge to get new stuff overtakes my better sense of judgement. I've used my SM4's since they came out. I see no reason at all to replace them.... other than just wanting new stuff.
McaseyM
If your wedges do exactly what you want then to do, don't change them. If you want a new look for them, check out Tigernick.com, for $55/wedge, He's got a lot of refinishes, painting and weight/ COG mods he can do. His black chrome finish is pretty damn slick. Just a note, if he does re-groove them for you, they will be square and nonconforming if that matters to you. GolfJunkie302
Short answer, when there is a hole through the face. I'm kidding, but you should probably replace yours soon. Mine look the same way. GolfJunkie302
I would personally prefer the 50, 54, 58 route. Yes, a 60° can be useful, but it's pretty hard to hit from a longer distance.
