National Donut Day

Recommended Posts

Apparently, it's National Donut Day today... June 1.  Another day observed by commercial enterprises to make a lot of money.

In our community we have a donut Spudnut shop that has been a family-run business since 1948.  Check out this article:  we are the one located in Richland, WA.

What is a Spudnut?  A donut made with potato flour.  Yummy!!  People stop on their way to work each morning to take a dozen or two to work for special occasions.

So my wife made a trip to the Spudnut Shop at 9:30am today and the line is out the door and into the parking lot!!!  They are delicious, but I can get one tomorrow morning with no line.

I would think that August 8 would be donut day. The numbers are more donut like. 8-8 But then that might be Pretzel Day.

I haven't had a Spudnut since I was 6. I have thought about them many times when traveling near where I know a Spudnut Shop is located, but sadly, I'm never there when they are open.

Lastly, I used to love Donuts. However, over the last year and a half, I have lost my taste for them and recently told my wife, who has a meeting once a week near a donut shop and would bring me some, to not get anymore.

Funny how people go nuts over something that costs what.... 1.25 ?? Maybe, maybe 2 dollars !?!? just because a "day" has been declared for it?

people get silly when you attach the word "free" to an item.

Not me, I see Gluten-free all the time and it does nothing for me.

haha... yeah, I meant free as in I'm giving it to you for nothing.

Not free as in fat-free, gluten-free, sugar-free, dairy-free, free-free... where does it end! !?!?! ?!

Do all your donuts come with holes? Ours in the UK tend to be solid and stuffed with a filling...

This is a classic custard donut, although the other popular fillings are jam (er...jelly?) and chocolate. Equally delicious with coffee.

You can get them either way here. Jelly or creme filled (or both) seem to be pretty popular both in my current area in Florida, and my old area in Maine. But, a lot of people like just plain donuts with a hole, and maybe a glaze on them.

That looks delicious...

Most have the hole in the middle but our local chain (Dunkin donuts) uses the dough that was in the holes and makes mini donut balls with it and calls them munchkins...

They do have a couple solid filled-jelly, Boston cream with chocolate icing...and one of the most popular is a French cruller
