PAIZ
I'm 65 and shoot in the mid 90s. Watched lots of videos about how to hit a 3 metal off the carpet, but the best advice I got was from a pro who said 'some people aren't meant to hit a 3 metal, leave it in the garage and get yourself a 5 metal'. I had busted a 5 metal about 10 years ago and never replaced it but remember being able to get the darn ball up in the air almost every time. I went to 2nd Swing and forked over 29 bucks for a used Adams 5 metal. Viola'! 8/10 shots get up in the air, fly straight and carry 170-190. As a 'tee it forward to the Golds guy' that's all I need for 2nd shots on Par 5s or if my drives fall short of 200 on the 4s. cksurfdude
Nice! I've got a 4W that I'm pretty happy with .. been hitting it nicely off the tee lately and once in a while off the deck, too. The mantra around here - which I totally completely wholeheartedly agree with - is play what works best for you Quote WITB of an "aspiring" play-ah ... When I went to the fitter earlier this year he looked at my bag and told me to mothball the 3W. He put a 5W in my hands and it was like magic. Has been working wonders ever since. RI_Redneck
Your exactly right. If golfers would look at loft only in choosing their FWs, they would be a lot more successful. I usually recommend the following as a rule of thumb when looking at FWs: Driver distance - lowest FW loft180-200 - 20200-220 - 18220-240 - 16240-260 - 14260+ - 12 Remember, these are just starting points. There will be some can go lower and some who can't use what I posted. Personally, I'm in the next to last group and play 13 to 14.5 as my strongest FW. However, I'm also a good FW player due to tons of practice and learning proper technique from the beginning. CarlH
I use a 16.5 degree 3 wood (Taylormade M4 3WHL). I've always liked 16 degree 3 woods (aka 4 wood) as my longest fairway metal --- it's remarkable how much that extra degree of loft will do to help get it airborne off the deck. A 5W is a smart move if you struggle with a lesser lofted metal. Good purchase!
