@GolfSpy SAM I have a TS3 7 iron in a KBS Tour 120S shaft if you would like to try it.  I bought a tester in the PX LZ shaft I am going to keep in the bag, so I have the extra 7I after committing to the set of TS3s from eBay.  Just let me know by DM and I can ship it to you.

That's so thoughtful, but I think I'm okay for right now - the 120s would be way more shaft than I need, and I'm not yet sure on what's shaking out for my next set - could be that I just fully commit to these, in which case I'd get them spec'd with either the Nippon 105s or the KBS Tour Lite's.  A lot of it rests on upcoming bonus discussions at work, and/or selling some extraneous stuff to see where I sit money-wise.

But thank you, again, for thinking of me, and if anything changes on my end, I'll for sure hit you up!

Recently built a new set of Maltby M890 clubs that were in my price range. Haven’t had a real chance to test them out yet, since I built them just before leaving on a Alaskan cruise and just got back. Looking forward to putting these clubs thru the paces.

Came across a Maltby ts1 gap wedge for $20 on ebay and decided to try it replacing my honma 48 degree wedge. Gotta say, I like this club a great deal rom 100-110 out. Removed the paint on the logo to match the ke4 max and TS3

I got the 890 5 wood head which was 20 degrees so I built a "heavenwood" with it since its same as callaways loft. 42.75" shaft. Its ok, but I have to say the head is very small compared to modern woods. It does have a great flight but I prefer my D9 7 wood.

There was a guy selling the 5 hybrid and 5 wood for $15 each new and he sent me the hybrid by mistake which is a 28 degree 5 hybrid. He then just sent me the 5 wood I ordered for free due to his mistake. I used the 5 hybrid for a set I built for my father with Adams 2015 Idea which goes up to 6 iron like the m890 and I gotta say, I like the hybrid more than the wood due to the very high loft if I need to get over trees.

I completed my first iron build last night, as I reshafted/regripped the TS3 5, 6, 8 and built the TS4 9 to try.  (The 7 is my tester - built by Golfworks - someday soon I will replace the ferrule to match.)  If I like the TS4 9, I will likely swap out the TS1 PW and GW for TS4, although the TS4 9 will have to be really great to kick them out of the bag.

Anyway, I am excited to get these out on the course today with the new shafts!

Good call on getting the TS4 pitch and gap. The gap wedge is quickly becoming one of my most favorite clubs in the bag do to the ability to take full shots as well as do some fun things around the green. It's got a really great in shape between a specialty wedge and a set wedge which makes it very visually versatile.

Can't wait to hear how things go with the rest of the irons

I made a slight mistake.  I have the TS4 9 iron not PW right now, but I love it.  It is super accurate in dispersion and great with a full or partial swing.  And it is very workable.  I am also going to get a TS4 PW bc I love the 9 so much.

All that said, the TS1 GW is by far the most accurate and sweet club in my Maltby kit.  There is no way I am replacing that.  Never.  It is pure magic.  So my combo set is going to be TS3 5-8, TS4 9-P, and TS1 G.   All with varying lead tape and such.  Total Frankenstein.  I don’t care.  Excited to get the TS4 PW which I plan to order this week!

Either way it's great to see you're having such a good time with the Maltby clubs. I'm not sure if I've ever run into somebody that's had a bad experience with them.

I just ordered an M890 combo (4-5H, 6-G irons) set for my daughter from Maltby/Golfworks, with pink grips per her request; included senior shafts, after we measured her driver speed at 84 mph maxed out, and some lie adjustments due to her petite nature.  I am very excited for her to get them.  She is too.

Now Dad needs to build her a driver and 3W.  Luckily, I am pretty sure I have all the components I need around the house for that, including senior flex shafts due to the OttoPhlex experimenting.

We threw in a TS4 PW head for me, too, so I will be gaming the TS3 5-8, TS4 9-P, and TS1 GW (which is so incredibly sweet, I cannot replace it).  Pondering the TS4 8i.  Hmmm.

Golfworks' customer service is excellent, btw.  So friendly and helpful on the phone.

If this is forbidden, I apologize.  Wanted to let you Maltby fans that I put a tester TS3 7 iron and TS4 9 iron in the Classifieds.  I am gaming both these models; I just have extras.

BTW I also picked up a KE4 FDI hybrid irons in 2 and 3.  I've hit the 3 a bunch and like it, but want to try it in a different shaft.  The 2i is on the way and I plan to try that with the Venus Black (non-velo) HB shaft.

Introducing the Maltby KE4 MAX UDI

It's not really.. but I had GW bend it to 18° and the profile couldn't be more perfect for a driving iron.

Teeing it up tomorrow. We'll see how she does. I threw in a Nippon steel shaft that I had lying around. Didn't realize until after I glued it up that it's a 5i length. If I can get 230 yds I'll be happy.

I won an ebay auction for a ts-1 6 and 7 head for $20 so I just bought an 8 iron head from golfworks as theyre on sale and made a mixed set with the TS1 and TS3. Of course removed paint to blend in.  Using these as my second set and I played yesterday with them and love them.

I had my first fitting Wednesday at club champion. Was given the ping I230, Mizuno HM Pro, TM 770p, srixon zx5 and callaway paradigms but none proved any improvement from my maltbys. The only one that was as good or slightly better was the Mizuno Pros w vista shafts. So were just going to flatten those lies a bit as it was diminished returns on any improvement compared to my gamers. Great to have the reinforcement on my own fitting from a outside source.  I was averaging 1.42 smash factor from the Ke4 max 6 iron which is better than expected.

But as I wait I put this set together and I have to say, the TS-1 are fantastic clubs as well. I had the gap wedge so its ts1 6-8 then ts3 9 and pw and ts1 gap with dg s300. Lil odd but works so very nicely. Going to play another 18 with them shortly.

Also no increase in distance or accuracy comparing my tour edge c722 w ventus blue with the Ping 430 ls or TM stealth 2 w 4 or 5 shafts and the new legit ventus blue for fair comparison. Just a 1 mph increase on one setup with the stealth and la golf shaft but the fitter even said not worth the money to increase.

So Im really liking the ts1s. Does anyone happen to have a 9 and PW of ts1s?

I have lots of heads and stuff to trade or Ill pay. As of maltby I have the ts3 9 and pw, the max wedges (all 4 seen above) and the ke4 max gap wedge.

Then got exotics, callaway, Adams, Wilson Staff, honma and more. FW woods, hybrids and driving irons, shafts, pretty much just say what youre looking for if youd like to trade, or if you would rather sell

Ok here's a random question..

My dad's been playing the KE4 MAX set that I built him last year. They've been a great set paired with the Maltby pro shafts. He's 73 and roughly 20 hdcp so I feel like this set is very suiting for his abilities. He's actually a fairly consistent ball striker though and can hang with me from the longer tees. It's his mental game that really holds him back. He doesn't have much sense for course management and can get a little hot tempered under pressure and then unravel pretty quickly. Funny how the tables have turned from when I was a tempered teen and he used to tell me to cool it.

Well yesterday we played and he had accidentally left his 8 iron home. I let him use my TS4 7i. He flushed a beautiful shot that ended up on the green and he was over the moon. It was a shot shape and ball flight that he hadn't been used to with his irons. Throughout the round he kept grabbing different clubs from my set and his intrigue continued to grow. Then he proceeded to say.. "so how soon can you build me a set of these?".

Well as much as I wanted to tell him that these clubs might not be for him.. I continued to watch him have some fantastic success with my clubs and just enjoying them more than his MAX's. I'm also having a hard time getting over making him a set of TS4's when the MAX is still such a great set that is nearly new.

After the round I then showed him the TS3's as an option and thought maybe those would be the better choice being more forgiving than my clubs, but while still being a step in that direction.

I guess what I'm asking is if anybody has tried all 3 to compare? Would I be better going TS3 instead? Or should I appease the old man and build him some TS4's? OR.. are the MAX still as good as he needs? I also thought about a combo set but he really hit the 5i well from my set and didn't have any intimidation. Another factor is that my shafts are KBS S taper lite 110's (S flex). So roughly 35g heavier per club. Maybe he just needs heavier shafts to help feel the club? I was thinking some S-Taper lite 105's since he liked mine so much. I just don't want him getting burnt out before the rounds over.

Sorry if that was long winded. I'm just kind of at a loss with what to do.

I don't really have any advice here, I just love that this is the conversation you're having with your dad. Color me jealous 🙂

I will say that after putting the Caley irons into play, and LOVING the turf interaction and seeing that distance is effectively the same compared to my GI Sim Max, I'm MORE interested in the TS3's than less. The top-line is maybe even a little thicker than the Caley's, but what I know about the TS3's makes me think those would be a better fit for me than the TS4's (especially because the lofts are different and would need to be bent to do a mixed set).

My question: how is the turf interaction with the TS4'S, and did your dad find any issues there? The thing that has STUNNED me with the Caley's is the turf interaction is AWESOME, especially coming from larger-soled GI irons. If he likes it, maybe a split set (TS3/4) with the Score irons cut to Reg +?

Maybe? 🙂

I know the Caley irons are more in the TS1 mold, but... The considerably thinner sole suits my game SO well, I'm kind of in love 🙂

I went from Ping Gmax irons to TS1s and my ball striking improved.  I never would have thought that, but tried the TS1s out and was surprised as anybody.  I was a 16 and now a 9.5.  Don’t be afraid of any Maltby iron, they’re all forgiving.

Some folks say golf messes up a nice walk.  That’s not true, golf makes a nice walk bearable.

So far I've had no issues with turf interaction but at the same time, playing in AZ there's not much turf to interact with lol. What I mean is that it's usually pretty hard here so you just kind of naturally become more of a picker with the irons. But even still, taking a smaller divot isn't an issue at all. I've played a few of the more uppity courses that have nicer turf and haven't noticed any problems.

What's becoming a little silly about these clubs is that I've increased nearly a full club in distance with each. I've also been putting in extra time withy new Garmin R10 now so strike quality has been improving too.

If anybody wants to see what a TS4 PW #'s look like.. here you go.

Keep in mind that some of these are estimates per R10 radar. And I'm just using normal balls and not Titleist RCT. So I'm sure the figures could be optimized further. But for an 85-90% accuracy level I'll take these to the course any day. Could throw a blanket on the 1st 9 shots. That last one I stepped on just slightly and easily got an extra 10 yds.

I'd put these up against ANYTHING, ANYTIME, ANYWHERE!

Following up on the KE4 Tour FDI hybrid 2 iron - after one round I like it, but think I need more time with it.  It is looooong, penetrating ball flight, good roll-out and easy to hit, but I find that I tend to draw it more than any other clubs.  (I found the same with the 3 iron.)   I think if I focus on a correct swing path that will be easily corrected.  It does not pull the ball OB or anything, but I need to learn to control/play that draw so it finds more fairways and fewer left roughs.  240+ and always inbounds is still solid.

P.S.  I really like the Atmos black XS hybrid shaft in the club too.  It does not feel XS at all - not boardy -- can feel the load.  (I am 100-105 typical driver speed btw, so not really an XS fit for me typically.)

Working at getting better ... and very slowly getting there.

Just got these in. My dad has been playing the KE4 MAX set that I built him a year ago. He's loved them.. up until he borrowed a few of my TS4's in our last round. He flushed a few really nice shots and was immediately smitten with the feel and ball flight.. and said "how soon can you build me a set of these?"

Well after some deliberation, we met in the middle and I ordered the TS3's. I've always been curious about these and this was a perfect opportunity to find a set that is a little more forgiving for dad but feeds my curiosity about the TS3's.

GW is having a clearance on these TT Elevate ETS shafts for $140 4-PW. I put them together and couldn't help myself to hitting a few. This combo is SO good! The shafts are Reg flex but I soft stepped 1 club. Even at my SS these are very stable. Extremely smooth without feeling too loose.

What I'm most surprised about is that the profiles really aren't too dissimilar. Top line on the TS3 is a fraction thicker but still very pleasing. Face height and sole width again, marginally larger but still all fit within a player's profile. I could easily game these myself and be completely satisfied. Now I know what all the hubub is about 😜
