I just got word that the YouTube review of the KE4 MAX is going up sometime today! Hopefully it does Maltby the justice it deserves and doesn't get me banned for life 😜

Stay tuned!

As much as I like the channel formerly known as TXG, Gabe is far more "real" for the majority of golfers. Even though he's a single digit, his speed and distances are far more relevant to more people. His last vid on a full bag K-Sig 9-holes was awesome. Just need some FW/Hybrids from K-Sig and it's truly a full bag. He also responds to emails!

Yeah I agree. Distance is too subjective of a category to place weighting on. I would probably replace distance with "consistency" and then these would have scored 5/5.. but that's just me 😁

They're also considerably less-jacked than MOST other SGI irons, as well as the fact that he even with all the wind, he said "I'm getting all the distance I would expect", so ... unclear what he was expecting, lol.

All that being said, the biggest surprise for me was the 'hard' feel he was experiencing.  I have ZERO experience with those irons, mind you, but having played TM Sim Max irons in the past, there's nothing 'soft'-feeling out of the toe/heel of those, either.  Definitely not denigrating his review there, just not sure what SGI iron feels "good" on low/off-center strikes, lol.

Let's get him a set of TS3/4s and watch his brain break. 🙂

LAST CALL!!!!!

I know this is a really big ask so I'm not expecting much but figured I'd give one last push.

Just FYI, there are nearly 30K views in 24 hrs for this video!! Besides the recent Costco series, this rates as one of the most watched videos Gabe has put out to date and this is just the 1st day!

After talking to Gabe, he REALLY wants to review the TS1-IM next. He wants to do a head-to-head against the Kirkland clubs and possibly Takomo, and the other club brands in its class. NOBODY in YouTube land has reviewed Maltby clubs like this so this is very exciting to say the least!

We have a couple volunteers for the TS3 which will be the following review so that's awesome!

If we can't find a volunteer to lend their beloved TS1-IM's, we have a plan B in place but I figured I'd hit the forums up first.

Thanks y'all!

Well, thanks for the pics on this post everyone. I am most likely gonna order the maltby ts4 gap wedge to go with my Nike vr pro blades, I always prefer an iron instead of a wedge in that slot and I think it will work nicely. I’ll bend it to 52 to match and we’ll see. I’ll update on the build when I do. Cheers

Once you get your Gap, you might just be inclined to order the rest of the set 😜

The latest Maltby GW's are IMO perfect! Speaking for the TS4 and TS3, and soon I'll have the IM's back when Gabe from Letsplaythru is done with them.  They aren't boxy like some set gaps can be and are versatile like a good wedge should be but also work well for full approach shots.

The TC Pro is an absolute beast. From the sound, feel, and low spin nature. It shocked me with its performance.
It's very close in build parameters to the Titleist TSR4. I ran it in a head to head comparison, and the Pro blew it away. Dispersion and control were far better. Sound which is almost hard to believe was just as good if not netter than the TSR4. Feel certainly was.
I did also run the TSR3 against it and that head faired far better vs the Pro. The Pro just barely edged it out.
Oh and the head cover is very high quality and slick looking. 39acd8255dc471389e9eb07bcb07985d.jpgbceec74173f8241a9d1d890d6244d49e.jpg674b465de29b77067e620d473f798c15.jpge0551101a3a8b8ad9eb843c376511cc2.jpg3a78251d354cf642b0f315ba776474ea.jpg15e35f8abb1f4072a0b8566d63410f30.jpg180ed6529eb2672c428756efde4cbfb0.jpg

Second on the gap wedge, although in my case I love the TS1.   I have a combo TS3/4 set otherwise, but the TS1 GW is never leaving the bag.

The TE+ is definitely a great looking club! Thanks to @vandyland for taking the time to gather and publish his data on these clubs.

I have a set of PTMs shafted with KBS steel shafts which are pretty much unused and which I was considering having re-shafted in graphite (all I have played for the past few years) but put those plans on hold when I saw that the TE+ was coming out. For me, as a high capper, the fact that the MPF for the TE+ is 838, versus 799 for the PTM, is also a great selling point.

You still have these PTMs?

Yes; only four clubs however (7-PW) with regular flex KBS steel shafts. I'm sticking with my Ping G710s for now.

Ping G400 Max 10.5* - Kuro Kage HBP Black Gen 2, 44.5" length

Ping G425 SFT 5W (19*) - Alta CB Slate SR flex

Ping G430 5H (26*), 6H (30*) and 7H (34*)- Alta CB 70 regular flex

Ping G710 8i-W - Recoil 80 F3 shaft (1)

Cleveland CBX4 50* and 58*, Smart Sole 4C - Recoil 95 F3 shaft

Odyssey Original 2-Ball White Hot counterbalanced (lead tape in the head, Super Stroke grip with 50-gram weight)

Other: Vice Pro or Maxfli Tour; Shot Scope X5; True Linkswear; Callaway Org 7 bag; Clicgear 3.5+

Hello, I must first say that I am not on social media, nor do I belong to any regular forums, but I have loved reading the content and the wealth of information that I have found here.  I played golf in my teens and twenties, but largely could not afford to play somewhat regularly until the past 18 months.  My handicap before the void was probably about a 10, and while I don't currently have a handicap, I will typically shoot around 90, but feel I can do much better (don't we all).

I turn 59 later this month and I had my first club fitting ever recently in anticipation of replacing my Wilson Staff Progressives ('93).  I have a clubhead speed of approximately 93 mph with a TM P790 7i with Project X 6.0.  I have only seen the Maltby irons from the pictures I see on their site, as well as the builds of pictures I see in this forum.  I am debating between the TS3s and TS4s and I am not certain that I have seen enough information on this forum that really directs my decision.  From what I have read here and on the GW site, the forgiveness factor between these clubs is negligible.  If that is an accurate assessment, then it would really come down to the looks, and while the TS3's are beautiful, I am really into the TS4's.

Golf Galaxy fit me to the Project X 6.0, which about doubles the price of the iron set...does anyone have an opinion on whether or not the TT Score shaft in stiff would be a sufficient shaft?  While I would love to build this set, I don't have the tools and plan on just having GW do the build?

Another consideration for input...I am looking 4-GW in whichever set I get, along with TSW 54 & 58 wedges.  Am I better off going 4-PW and getting TSW 50, 54, 58?

Sorry for the rambling and I hope this was intelligible enough for some solid input.  Thanks in advance.

Typically I hit my gap wedge square only, so I tend to stick to the set gap wedge.  From what I’ve read most folks like the TT Score, but hopefully @Popeye64 can weigh in to give you some good information.

TSi2 Driver, Titleist TSi2 4 Wood, Ping G410 3 Hybrid, Ping G400 4 Hybrid, Maltby TS1 5-GW, Maltby Max Milled 54, Maltby Max Milled 58, Piretti Forza.

Some folks say golf messes up a nice walk.  That’s not true, golf makes a nice walk bearable.

The TT Score is a a different shaft from the Proj X 6.0. It will fly higher and feel more active. It's certainly not to say that it won't work well for you.
Another very cost conscious option is the FST shafts. They are an off brand KBS shaft.
You should give the custom shop at GW a call and tell them your plans.
The TS4 is not quite as forgiving as the TS3 but not by much. The TS4 has a higher COG and looks far more like a true players blade. Coming from those Wilson's, it may suit your eye better.
The TT Score shaft can suit a very wide range of golfers. But again it's a different shaft than the 6.0s.

Much appreciated @Popeye64 and @NCDuffer@Popeye64 do you have an opinion between the TS4 Gap Wedge and a TSW 50 degree as to which would be better?  In my current set, my PW is 48.

I'll take this one

Having played both variations I find the set gaps the way to go. IMO the gap is a club better suited for full shots and occasionally for short bump and run shots. The Maltby forged set wedges transition perfectly and don't at all look like the design got lost somewhere between the set and the wedges.

In the event that you want to use it for something up close with some finesse, they really do a great job and inspire confidence and are easy to butter and place the ball where you want it.

So my advice is set gap all day long.

@azstu324 Excellent advise. Your posts were the first I read about building and hitting the TS4's and I then read you were building your Dad a set of TS3's...Did you complete the TS3 build?  Were you able to hit those?  I am sure as you were building them for your Dad they would not be best suited for your swing, but I assume you couldn't resist.  If you could do it over, would you lean TS4 or TS3?

Man this really is a tough one. I'll cut to the chase and spoil the ending... No I wouldn't have done anything differently. I love everything about the TS4's!

THAT SAID.. like so many, I was initially on the fence about the TS1-IM's, TS3's, and TS4's. I played and loved the previous TS1's so I had some loyalty to that model. The TS3's came out and I almost bought those just because they were available and needed something to buy lol.. but then pics of the TS4's surfaced and I just knew I needed to be patient and wait. When the TS4's released I bought them blindly as soon as I could. I had sourced the shafts locally, then bought the heads and built my set. It's been a match made in heaven from day 1.

Well curiosity about the TS3's and quite frankly, TS1-IM's, wasn't completely put to rest. My dad had hit my irons one round and fell in love with the feeling and asked that I build him a set. I convinced him that the TS3's might suit him a little better so we went with those instead. I think that suggestion was equally for me to get my hands on them and check them out as it was for him to play them 😁. I built his set and of course I played a round with them. After spending some time with them I can honestly say that had I opted for them first, I would say the exact same thing! If I had never played the TS4's, I would probably say the TS3's were a match made in heaven. Although they're just slightly thicker on top and bottom, they could easily suit a better player's eye. I think that because of the slight extra thickness (not much), they actually appear a little more squat from heel to toe. Think supermodel in the TS4 vs fitness model in the TS3. Both very nice to look at and gorgeous in their individual ways😜

I will say that when struck pure, they both feel insane! Very equal to each other. The TS4 as you might imagine, when struck off-center will let you know you messed up, but the results aren't nearly as punishing as you'd think from the feel. I wouldn't say they're harsh on missed strike but the feedback is definitely there.

The TS3's 's are probably a little more muted on missed strikes as you'd imagine a CB to be. I think the consensus overall is that the TS3's feel better but I think that's just mostly comparing less than perfect shots.. which most of us are accustomed to more often than pros.

Honestly the 2 are so very close in performance and feel that going with what visually looks better to you would be the way to make your decision. It sounds silly but that's honestly how I decided on the TS4's. Had I like the looks of the TS3's better, I would have picked them and wouldn't be missing out on anything.

Now on a final note, I've partnered with my dad on a set of TS1-IM's. This is the set that I had sent to Gabe at LetsPlayThru to review. I'll have them back hopefully in a week or 2 after he finishes his review, which should hopefully be going up soon. I'll then be able to provide my feedback on those vs the TS3's and TS4's IF that's something you're also considering. But I know there are a load of awesome reviews out on those already.

Hopefully that was at all helpful. Just let us know if you have any other questions and we'll all pitch I to help out.

Thank you for that information @azstu324.  I had filled out the Online Fitting form on the GW website, but with a bare minimum of information (this was before I went to get a dynamic fitting at Golf Galaxy) I knew the recommendations would be ballpark at best.  They recommended the TS3's, but my gut/eye tells me I will be more satisfied with the TS4's.  I know my current scores are not indicative of my capabilities if I would invest in some lessons and practice more.  As much as I have loved the look of my Staff Progressives, I know I am losing something on my way too frequent mishits.

I can see TS4's in my future...going to take the advice of @Popeye64 and call GW to talk through shaft selection.

Thank you all.
