J7Hawkins
Totally agree @jbern, the blacked out sole is a cool touch. I’m playing my first full round with it in the bag today and will be trying it out on a couple par 4s (need less than driver off the tee) and will try my best to hit it on the par 5s. So far I’ve only hit it on the range and I really like it! It does still have a fade tendency for me, which is opposite of my Cobra LTDx 3-wood. I tried hitting closer to the toe and that helped a lot. My swing is far from perfect, but I do think the Sub70 7-wood has a small fade bias. The 699 ProV2 doesn’t have an adjustable hosel… but IF the club had an adjustable hosel I think you could tune it .5° more loft and the small amount of face closure would be perfect. I've been playing the 949x series woods for the past 2.5 years and they definitely don't have that fade bias. The 949x series has an adjustable hosel to open or close the face by 1* or add 1.5* to the lie, which is really nice. I do wish the ProV2 had that adjustment available. On the course today I definitely felt that fade bias but did manage to draw it into a par 5 and hold the green (barely bounce forward at all). That specific instance my utility iron would’ve been useless because I needed the full carry distance to cover a bunker and would’ve had no shot to hold the green with the utility iron. overall, I really enjoyed the club on the course today. However, if you struggle with a fade/slice I would strongly suggest thinking twice about this club. J7Hawkins
Heading out here in a bit to practice my long game (driver-6i) so I’ll get a chance to see a bit more from the Pro V2. One thing I’m curious about in comparison to my utility iron is whether I could manipulate the club to keep the ball low for a rescue type shot. I’ll be practicing that and providing thoughts later! Dcfrench3
When I was initially putting in my order for this club the website had said the club should take 1-2 weeks to be delivered. I had a rep reach out to me as I had input the wrong shaft model and they wanted to verify the correct one. Once my order was verified it took 6 days for the club to be delivered. I unfortunately, was actually hoping for a later delivery date and for them to not be so prompt as I was going to be out of town for the next 10 days, so when I found out it was being delivered, I was super excited they were on top of it and sad I wasn’t going to be there when the club was delivered. I had a neighbor grab the club off my porch and I felt like a kid awaiting Christmas day the whole time during my trip knowing I get to open my present when I get home. The first thing I would like to comment on is the presentation of the box. All black with the company’s logo on it. This really set the mood before I even opened it. I felt I was opening a tactical new arsenal tool. My only comparison is from when I had my Callaway Ai Paradym driver delivered in which they just had a plain cardboard box wit the name Callaway on it. Still exciting to get a new club, but I feel as though the small touch of the designed box really made it just that more special. Opening the box I was greeted with my new club, paperwork confirming my order and a branded pouch. The club was secured with foam so it wouldn’t move around. I opened the bag to see what was inside. A driver adjustment tool and a bunch of small weights to adjust the club (4g, 6g, 8g, 10g). I was a little disappointed because I had seen some of the other reviewers get a Sub70 ball marker. I’m not sure if this was a mistake or if you don’t get one with the 3w vs the 7w. There was a small defect for the label on the driver adjustment tool which was partially coming off. In my opinion, this is negligible, but thought it should be pointed out. I inspected the club for any defects and found none. The first word that came to my mind is this club is sharp looking. I went with a black shaft so the all black made it look really slick. Taking hold of the club it feels very well put together. I took out the pre-installed weights and found that a 2g was installed near the club face and the 9g was installed in the rear end. Having read other reviews and hearing that they have been having some fade to their shots I decided to switch the weights to what I thought might assist with correcting the shot. I put the 10g near the clubface and the 2g near the rear. I’m looking forward to seeing how this will handle after the adjustment. I took some practice swings in my yard and it seemed as though the club face was pointing straight. I am planning to switch the weights around during my testing on the range and I will make sure to post my thoughts on the adjustments. I’m going to attempt to go hit some balls at TopGolf either this week or next week. My plan is to warm up for a bit, hit some balls with my current 3 wood, then switch over the ProV2 with my current weights for a round. After that I’m going to switch around the weights based on what my balls were hitting like. If I still have time I was going to hit another round with my original 3 wood just to see if I was still warming up with the 3 wood. Depending on the time factor, I will also be testing the ProV2 wood off the matt. My first field testing will be on 8/3/24 playing at Red Hawke Golf course in Castle Rock. I will post updates after each of my tests. J7Hawkins
Well, I got out yesterday and was able to test the fairway wood while trying some more “rescue” type shots. Because I would have to give up my utility iron to carry this club I need to know how I’m going to play shots out of the trees and shots where I need to move the ball both ways, something my utility iron is good at. What I noticed: this club is awesome at maintaining ball speed, thus keeping very similarly distances even when I (purposefully or not) hit it low on the face to force low ball flight. When hitting it low I found it easier to draw as well. I was able to hit a low 3/4 swing shot out of higher grass that came out with speed, which I didn’t think I would be able to do, very impressive! JJBack
Got out to the range last night before league and hit about ~20 balls each with the ProV2 7 wood and my 4 hybrid. I don’t have a launch monitor so this is purely empirical until I can find a monitor to get some real numbers from: 1) the carry distance appeared very similar (~190-200 yards) 2) the 4 hybrid seemed to have a lower trajectory and therefore more roll-out (~10-20 yards) 3) the 7 wood seemed to have a higher ball flight and therefore more stopping power (~5-10yards) Next step is to find a launch monitor/simulator to get some real data on it. Popular Post Cannon Safe
IThe packaging is one of my favorite so far, but to be fair, I’ve only ordered clubs one other time. My irons from Calaway showed up in a plain cardboard box, of similar size, with their logo in the corner. I may be a little biased as I’m naturally drawn to dark color schemes. Opening revealed the adequately protected club with the headcover on, the sub 70 black bag with the weights, tool, and ball marker, and the handwritten note was a nice touch. I really like the way the smoke blue “HZRDUS” really stands out on the shaft. The headcover is simple but very fitting for their style. A big improvement over my Paradym driver and 3-wood covers. This thing is beautiful to stand over. I typically like having an alignment mark but this gives me enough confidence that I don’t miss it. I will say this thing has some heft to it. I picked the 70g shaft because all the research I did mention wood shafts should be slightly heavier than your driver shaft. My driver is 60-65 g so 70g was the obvious choice, right? It was something I noticed off the bat but after some swings in the yard, I kind of dig it. So far, I’m impressed. I was able to run to the range and take a couple photos. Dcfrench3
Just got back from Topgolf. Here are my stats. Overall I prefer the heavier weight near the clubface as it felt like better ball contact and it did seem to help with the fade that was occurring slightly more with weight in the back. I compared it with the clubs I might be switching it out for. My original 3 wood seemed to outperform but that could be due to me starting with it. Being that top golf doesn't really show ball spin doesn't really give me a true rating. It did do better than my hybrid which I wasn't too surprised but we'll see how it handles on the course. I'll be giving my next update shortly after 8/3. Next update will include videos so you can hear the club for those who asked. Please let me know if there is anything specific you want me to test and I will do my best to get it into my next update. Thanks, Alaska has a lot of perks to make up for the long winters. I'm playing a different course tomorrow for a charity scramble with some great views also. I'll try to take some pictures but it's supposed to be raining pretty good all day so we'll see. Nickygolf
This is great insight, thanks! Took me a minute to decipher the chart, but it was awesome to see the real data comparison. J7Hawkins
Mixed feeling about the ProV2 fairway wood this week. I feel like I need to swing it a little differently than other clubs in my bag to keep it from fading on me, which is not ideal. I’m still working to identify if there is a particular reason why this is. Later this week I will try to tinker with the front and back weights and see if any of that helps. Other than that aspect, I think the club is solid. Reasonably forgiving, good distance without having those super low spin “flyer” type shots some hybrids give you. I would love to hear if the other testers are having the same experience! JJBack
Huge shoutout to @Shrek74 for letting me borrow a launch monitor to do some testing with. So far I’ve done 2 sessions comparing my 4 hybrid and the Pro V2 7 wood. Here’s what the data has to say: 1st session (outdoors into net) 2nd Session (garage into net) Total (so far) This weekend I’m going to try to get out to the range and hit some balls with the launch monitor to see what those numbers look like. I’m also going to play around with the weights in the club to see if that impacts the data. Shrek74
Question for the testers. @J7Hawkins is reporting a fade-bias to his 7 wood. Is this what everyone is experiencing? If there a bias to any direction in anyone's testing? Overspark07
Testers, curious how you all arrived at your shaft selections. I see the stock selections are the HZRDOUS red/blue/black in the 60/70g options. Was it largely based on what you had in the clubs you were looking to replace? Did any of you speak with Sub70? I've been intrigued by the brand and am about an hour away from their physical location and been kicking around the idea of driving down there for a fitting. Absolutely go! I wish I was close enough to go. Even if you don't buy anything while you're there, they're really great at the fittings and they're all full of fantastic information. It's absolutely worth going. I may make a pilgrimage up there on a long weekend (12 hr drive or so).
