GolfSpy AFG
I finally got to open my clubs! Dad took a bunch of photos. I wanted to post them tonight, but he said something weird about not posting them all at once, and stringing things out to get more thread activity?! Dad's weird. His first impressions after hitting them "My driver is my new best club beacuse I can hit high bombers now." , he also saw the kids golf balls on the box, that Lynx has to offer, lighter and better for low swing speeds so we will be purchasing a box of those. GolfSpy AFG
So my Dad took a video of me opening my clubs, but he forgot that I’m almost 11 now. That means I don’t jump up and down or scream and shout…I’m waaay too cool for that. And Lynx wrapped my iron heads in some sort of weird cover, so the video had to come to an abrupt end so Dad could help me get them off. Dad’s going to help me post some pictures in the next couple of days in something he called the “Unboxing & First Impressions” in my placeholder post?? elight
Max is back from a month at camp! A few photos of him unboxing and his first swings. He's spent a month playing baseball, soccer, and Frisbee (which he learned how to throw forehand), with no swings of a golf club, so there's definitely a little rust. Well, rust in his swing - not on his new clubs! His first reaction was, "Wow, these look so cool!" He loved the design of the bag and the fact that he has two additional clubs (the hybrid and an additional iron) compared to his previous set. We need to work on his swing a bit, but we'll get there! PXL_20240721_223823449.mp4 One strange annoyance I noticed was that some of the club slots are arranged vertically. The result seems to be that the clubs in that slot sit on top of one another (because, ya know, gravity), and when you pull one out, the grip rubs the other club, and entire back wants to buckle forward: PXL_20240721_224812849.LS.mp4 I don't think my launch monitor (SkyTrak) is really accurate at low swing speeds, so the real test will be on the range/course this weekend. frazzman80, GolfSpy AFG, TJ Hall and 1 other 4 Quote PXG 0211 driver, 5w, 6i-PW, GW, SW; Titleist H1 4h; Odyssey White Hot mallet. DonnieGolfs
We did some garage golf last night, seems like these clubs so far have been a bit easier for me to get some height out of my longer clubs. PXL_20240724_010755216.mp4 PXL_20240724_013151076.mp4 My dad also let me play in the yard until we went to the indoor golf simulator, he said we need to get ready for the big guy course this weekend. elight
Made it out with Max yesterday for 9 holes on the course. Despite the slow pace of play and the incredibly inappropriate language from the foursome in front of us (members of the local high school golf team), we had a great time. In fact, Max even made his first birdie, carding a 4 on the par-5 5th hole (he teed off from 150 yards out). Some first impressions: Club size and weight is so important at this age. Max is about 51.5" tall without shoes on, and the clubs are for heights ranging from 51-54", so he's at the bottom of this range. The clubs are clearly a little big for him. He insisted on hitting his old driver (which is about the same size as his new hybrid) after a lack of initial success with the new one. His swing has been messed up by a season of baseball followed by a month without any golf while at overnight camp. It's going to take a little while to fully get back into it. From the good shots he's hit and the few test swings I've taken, the irons and wedge seem really solid, with a nice sound and feel. The chipping with the sand wedge has especially been good, which I think must mean that the club feels good through impact given the fact that this is purely a feel shot for him at this point. PXL_20240728_191807261.mp4 We are playing 18 holes again next weekend, and I am keeping the hitting net and launch monitor set up in the garage until then! GolfSpy AFG
My first 9 holes with my new set was a lot of fun. You can probably tell from the video my Dad posted, but my first couple holes with my new clubs were a bit tough. These are longer and heavier than my old set for sure. (Dad said we'd post some comparison stuff soon.) After a few holes I started to sort it out though...I hit one drive almost 200 yards, and in the fairway! That's not a complaint about how big the driver is though. I think it looks really cool, and I really feel like I can hit the ball farther with such a big club! Of course I also spent a lot of time putting. Maybe a little too much. Dad keeps telling me I have to pay more attention to speed, but I keep blasting it by the hole anyway. I'll hopefully do better with that when I play again, tomorrow! poprocksncoke
Sorry to keep you all in suspense. Had a fun day at the course with my dad this weekend. Really getting a good feel with these new clubs. Hit some shots better than I have hit them before. I got a nice confident boost while we were on the range another girl said to me, “nice swing”. I tried to hit the woods this time but that did not turn out so well. I have never been really good at hitting the woods before, but I will keep trying till I get it right! On the green I almost holed out my first put with the new putter. It is much lighter than the putter I was using before, and I think I’m really going to like this one. winner.mp4 Unfortunately, probably due to hitting so many balls lately I got a blister on my finger and it ripped off! elight
Well, my dad had a tee time booked for us this weekend while we were on vacation up at a water park in the mountains. But I was having so much fun at the water park that I begged my dad to let me stay there. I told him that I still really want to play golf, just not today! He gave in, like he always does. (And then he moved his tee time back 2 hours because he felt guilty about abandoning the family without taking any children with him... and then went on to set a personal record, finishing 18 holes in 2 hours 40 minutes and still making our dinner reservation on time.) The weather outlook this week is terrible, but my dad just got a new (used) Birdieball putting mat. So it will be a good opportunity to test out the new putter. Tonight, we tested my new Lynx Ai putter against my old putter. I hit three putts with each putter from short, medium, and long lengths. Please don't judge our basement - or else I might have to clean it up! Under these stairs is where my dad has room for this 12' putting mat right now. The distances were about 3', 6' and 9'. With my old putter, I sank 3, 1, and 0. With my new Lynx Ai putter, I sank, 3, 3 and 0. So this small sample size seems to indicate that the putters were about the same from short and long range, but I did much better from mid-range with the new one. This sort of makes sense - I expect to make all my 3-footers and miss almost all my long-distance putts regardless of the putter. But the mid-range putts are the ones that I can start making if I practice and have the right equipment! I have to say, I noticed that the Lynx Ai putter was much lighter than what I'm used to, which gave me a more consistent stroke. And it looks really good in my hands and behind the ball! Next week is our annual family beach trip, where I'll get to play golf with my dad, uncle and cousins! Stay tuned! GolfSpy AFG
Well with some rounds on the course now, it's probably time to start getting a little more in-depth on the actual clubs. These are longer and heavier than my old clubs! I guess that makes sense, because I'm longer and heavier so my clubs should be too! It has taken a little getting used to, plus I'm still a baseball player at heart and that shows up on the course. My Dad says my baseball background means I've have good rotary power, but my weight shifts differently in baseball than in golf...my weight needs to get to my lead side in golf, but stays back in baseball. (My Dad is clearly a golf geek, but he does a decent job of not trying to coach me too much on the course.) So, I hit some really good drives, but I hit some really thin iron shots. I'll keep working on it, although baseball practice for my 11U team starts the first week of October! So coming up I'll compare these clubs to my old ones with a little more detail. I think these Lynx Ai clubs are the perfect length and weight for my age and size!
