Let's start off with some players comments......

"As far as the greens are concerned, it's not a championship golf course," said Ryan Palmer, a straight talking Texan and standup guy who played Chambers Bay on Monday before heading to Wednesday's opening day of the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Match Play at TPC Harding Park. Palmer lost, 4 and 2, toAnirban Lahiri. "Not with the way some of the greens are and the pin placements they can put out there."

Ian Poulter tweeted Tuesday that he had talked to some players who had been to the course and they told him it was a "farce."

Everyone plays the same course.  You can choose to complain and not have a chance, or you can embrace the challenge, develop a plan, and play what the course gives you.  Get over it!!

IMO, the pros play the same courses over and over with fairly consistent green speeds and bunker conditions which makes it easier.  We amateurs play different courses with a wide variation in course conditions and we wonder why we have a wide variety of scores.  Our swings account for a lot of it, but the courses compound the problem.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

The players are just worried that the usga will set it up super tough and the low scores will be over par. Hell didn't the Uiline shoot 80 to win the US am there? Pros just don't like looking bad.

It's the U.S. Open.  A good score is supposed to be around par.  It should be tough but fair... Not like Shinnecock Hills.  I think the USGA has learned a few lessons about course setup, but they could surprise me!

I think the prima donna's out there complain if something is different. They're stubborn and spoiled. Think about it, their fairways are as firm and fast as most greens we play on. They never get a bad lie in a bunker. Never lose a ball because they couldn't fit it. They're pampered little brats. The ones who are the most afraid of not breaking 80 will be the loudest in hopes that someones listening who has influence on course setup.

Jack Nicklaus said on occasion " I love to hear guys complain about a course, I could just eliminate them from the possible contenders".

I agree shinnecock was ridiculous. When you can't hold a green with a putt or chip then it's time to re-evaluate what you've done to the golf course

I think it's going to be interesting. I think the guys that will be in contention are the ones that are open minded. The guys b****ing about it are b****ing about playing golf for a living. Take the silver spoon out of your mouth and man up.

The U.S. Open hasn't even started yet and the players, golf journos, and golf traditionalists are already bitching about it. That must mean the USGA has done its job properly. Some of the players are starting to wrap their head around a different type of U.S. Open.

I think I'm going to love watching this, but I'll need to ignore the bitching to do so. The players are complaining because its only Monday and the course is firm and fast. They're afraid of being embarrassed by posting big numbers. Shut up and play. Par doesn't matter one  bit. I'd gladly post +27 for four rounds if it meant winning a major championship.  Also, their concern would hold more water  if the wind was going to be more of a factor. According to various forecasts, there won't be a day that has wind above 10 mph. That is fairly calm on a course of this style.

The whiny media is already complaining about their commute to the course via shuttle too. We've heard all this before when the PGA was at Kiawah. Please folks, just talk about the golf. We don't care about your shuttle rides and lousy accommodations. Your life isn't a struggle.

I honestly can't wait to watch it. Should be very interesting. I've played on All fescue before and didn't find it a problem. These guys just love to whine!

Had some buddies who played in the Am and when they played they said that the green diameters were painted because it was nearly impossible to distinguish between I fairway and green.

This was sent to a friend of mine from a players caddie- heaps and heaps of complaining out there!

I'm all for a little brown and not Augusta-green-everything; however, if the greens are bumpy and inconsistent I'm out.

agree. Hopefully they roll true
