    Fujikura Ventus

       190

Nice opportunity to test such a popular shaft for those selected. I still believe I'm in a serious minority because I have never been able to get a Ventus shaft to work for me. It wasn't for lack of trying, but it's just not for me.

  1. Without going through a fitting, based on things that have worked in the past, this seems like it would be a solid setup for myself. I couldn't get along with the Stealth, so hoping the Qi10 is an improvement all around.

  2. The Mizuno drivers were surprisingly good this year when the local course had a demo day. I know Mizuno does not get much attention in the woods space, but the driver at least has made some significant jumps from previous versions I had tried. The driving iron also just looks great, especially the black finish.

Can I ask how long you’ve had it? I may be, hopefully, the outlier.  Mine is coming up on its second anniversary.  Still love the net, use it all the time. I might actually be someone who’d spend the extra bucks to get the larger version as I have sailed a few over the top…

Coming up on close to a year now. Admittedly I have sailed one over the top as well, but it was such a mishit, the larger net would not have caught it either. I keep the net basically sitting flat and then propped against the side of the house for convenience in terms of setup and put away, but it does sit in the sun for a large part of the day. The UV may be something I have to be concerned with in the future.

  4. Good job on the reviews everyone. I am surprised to see some UV damage to the net for @WaffleHouseTour. My SPG-7 sits outside in the California central valley sun all the time and no issues so far. Seems like what I'm mostly reading is that the testers were happy with the product (as I believe all of us SPG-7 testers were) but the price increase for the extra foot of size appears to be a concern.

  5. Surprised the sign ups are still so low. The Spornia nets are high quality with a few minor quirks that could be improved (based on the 7 foot model I tested last year). Looking forward to the reviews from the testers to see if any improvements were made or they just went bigger.

Been a little intimated to get the net back out if I'm honest lol. I've also just been crazy busy as my wife has been traveling more for her job lately. The good news is I was able to get the garage cleaned up a bit and should have enough space to leave it up for a couple days this week while she's away.

I know what you mean. I haven't taken it out in a while just because of life. It's amazing how even the most convenient net (literally 30 seconds to set up), can seem like a pain when you have other things on your mind. I may have to steal your idea with the horse stall mat just to give some extra padding between the hitting mat and the concrete patio out there. I may have bent an iron shaft from the practice (and a little of my own stupidity).

  7. So, partially out of laziness and partially out of just simply not needing it, I have been setting up the net without the roof portion at all. I've mostly been hitting 7-iron and longer recently, so absolutely no risk of hitting anything over. Set up time to move the net and hitting mat from its resting place next to the house and putting the net up is all of 35 seconds.

  8. As Sirchunk mentioned, the pole that supports the roof section is a bit of a pain. I was in a bit of a rush to take it down to clean up the yard today and this happened. In complete honesty, it was more me rushing than anything, but this is definitely the weakest area of the product. Everything else about the net has been very high quality and extremely functional, but this roof section does not feel as well designed to me. 20211122_145813.jpg.5f235d7d5a8a2d8aec816dd6e1d4a5a7.jpg

So for you all testers, is this net in the goldilocks range? I. E. It isn't too small, it isn't too big, it's sized just right.

I would say it is right near that range of being the ideal size. It's not too big, but you have to mishit one pretty badly to miss the net entirely.

For outdoor use, it's good. The 7 foot net we received is plenty big to hit almost every shot. Like Tr1ptik said, if you really wanted to, you could flop a wedge over the roof portion. I think that is a limitation of everything aside from a fully enclosed cage sort of setup. I do like the fact that I can quickly fold it down and it lays flat. I have been propping it against the side of the house when not using it rather than completely closing it recently. The reason for that is that the roof section is a bit of work to get the support pole in place. Keeping that in place even when not in use means I can set up the net in around 20 seconds. It is just one pole on each side to prop up the hitting area and it's ready to go.

Indoor use is also not bad. In my case, I'm limited by the ceiling height in my garage rather than the net itself. I can't full swing anything in the garage without hitting something, but I can practice half swing type shots. For a garage, if you have enough room to park a car, you have enough room for the net.

  10. I'm set up pretty close. Basically my mat is up against the front of the net, which gives it probably 6-7 feet to the net. I will admit to hitting a few errant shots that have hit the right edge of the net. It makes a loud noise when it hits the support inside, but no real risk of missing the net. Behind my house is a street and a high school, so I'm definitely not trying to miss anything over the fence. It's not always easy to concentrate with a 4 year old asking you 2000 questions so a few have gone right on me. I could see it potentially being more of an issue on the 5 foot version with very errant shots, but I believe we all received the 7 foot net.

do you think that this could be used with a radar-based launch monitor like the rapsodo?

I had a 10ftx10ftx10ft hitting cage, but with the most severe weather i have seen the steel frame failed. I thought about taking it down but it takes a long time.

I really like how easy this looks to set up and take down, but wondering if there is enough space to hit into without going too far back for a MLM.

    Thanks for the reviews all.

I don't have the Rapsodo anymore, but it works fine with a PRGR monitor. I actually have the net closer to me than Tr1ptik and it hasn't been an issue. I would refer to my fellow tester on the Rapsodo, but I don't see any initial reason that it wouldn't work unless the background is too "busy". Since the majority of the hitting area is solid black I suspect it would work fine, as well as the Rapsodo net mode works anyway.

In terms of taking it up and down, it's quick, surprisingly quick really. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the "roof" section from a portability aspect. I honestly spend longer on that roof section than I do the entire remainder of the process. If you have ever had one of those sun visors that you fold and kind of twist into a circle for storage, the net is basically the same mechanism for folding. For the most part, I have only been removing the side poles, and storing it flat with the roof section pole still in.

  12. Definitely received the full size, and it is a solid size for semi-permanent setup. I have my initial thoughts on the portability of the net. As you can see, it is pretty compact when folded up, and very nice when setup.20211023_173347.jpg.20dabd68360e68d21a84f94873277f44.jpg

I know I mentioned some indoor testing and I will do that, but as you can tell full swings just won't be possible in this garage. It will work well for feel purposes for wedges.

Remember that I'm strictly the outdoor guy so any Net questions about that part of the test?  Let me know and I will either try and answer or check it out in Tuesday's session.  I didn't measure anything but I had no trouble hitting gap wedge today.  Still plenty of room to hit less club and not worry about going over the top.

Thats good to hear. I have definitely hit one or two 9-irons and pitching wedges over my Callaway net, luckily no cars were driving down the street behind my house at the time. Or at least I didn't hear any resulting damage. I wouldn't even dare to hit any of my Callaway wedges at that net. Good news, FedEx found my net and it's sitting at home for when I get out of work today.

  14. Despite being only about 3 hours away from Spornia, I have not received the net yet. FedEx is having a number of shipping issues in my area and the last time it was scanned was Saturday. I called FedEx this morning to initiate a trace on the item so hopefully they will find it and get it moving soon. This is 100% on FedEx as I've had 4 packages get lost or severely delayed in the past two months. UPS and USPS deliveries have been fine though.

Any of you testers have a launch monitor you're going to use in conjunction with the Spornia? I'm pretty positive I know @revkev has one, but I can't remember if I've heard that any of the rest of you do.

Also, do any of you have a permanent indoor place your going to keep the net up or are you going to be putting it up and taking it down often?

I got rid of my Rapsodo earlier this week. It was basically useless to me, but that's a completely separate rant. I've got a more basic one coming in on Monday so I'll see if it works or not. I don't have the room in the house with everyone else and their stuff, but I have room in the garage. Like tr1ptik the ceiling in there is too low for any full shots, but it will allow me to do a lot of moving it around. I don't like keeping my net in the grass area of our backyard because of the dogs.

image.jpeg.a753689240916bc4da999f95c505418c.jpegHad a bit of formatting issues but figured it out. Here’s the mat in my back yard. Used it for a super speed work out. Easy pick up into my utility shed. Just waiting on its partner - the Spornia Net!

Like the mat. I'm not feeling confident in receiving the one I ordered last week. It arrived late to FedEx today about 4 hours away. The last time that center received a package for me... Well, this is what happened. Screenshot_20210910-202230_Chrome.jpg.0850ee266237a72b272c8cb55046cc19.jpg

A9B7B985-C6D7-47F4-BE91-3706EE2070D0.jpegIt arrived today. $75 I can stand on it while make righty or left swings if I want to do a super speed work out.

It comes with a rubber tee - that would be the one draw back - you can’t put a tee in it. I made several swings on it and there were no green marks on the bottom of my 7 iron. It fits nicely in my utility shed also.

See below for a couple of additional pictures

Nice. I may have to get one myself. I don't think my landlord would appreciate me taking out chunks of the back yard.

Should be fun to see how this all works for some of you guys indoors as well. For some of us it is all we have and don't quite have the space outside for this to work. Will be it be portable enough to put up in a garage or even bigger living room type area? Hoping a few of you will be able to test this out for us!

I do have some space available in the garage currently that I should be able to use. I am planning to set it up in a few different areas to really test the portability and convenience. I have a basic net sitting in the backyard right now, but it is inconvenient to move around to say the least so this will be great for me to compare.
