I have been a ClubWRX contributor/donor the past couple years or so.  I did it be because I appreciated the effort the owner made in providing a free site to discuss many aspects of golf.  I have been a member since 2006 and have seen a decline in respectful tone by many new members.  I am also tired of the "Johnson" measuring contest that many of the so called scratch members have in that they are so great a golfer and can hit drives over 300 yards and can break 85 at Augusta National Golf Club never seeing the course, 1 hour practice, no caddie, walking and playing under Sunday Masters tournament conditions at Masters tournament tees.  I also love the 15 handicapper who drives the ball 360 yards in the fairway almost every time they drive a ball, who can hit irons great and putt really great yet they are a 15 handicapper.  The self pontificating is nauseating and lack of respect is insulting.  It is sad to see opinion posts created where the OP is asking for opinions and then tells anyone who has a differentiating opinion that they are wrong.  I suppose this scenario might no be isolated at GolfWRX and may be more systemic on the internet as a whole.  That said, I find myself going to GolfWRX less and less.  I rejoined FB because of a few reasons, family interaction first and foremost but also for a Persimmon Wood society that have congregated there.  Many are former GolfWRX members who have left the site.  Since I have a great love and passion for persimmon woods this was a predictable move for me.

That said, I believe GolfWRX offers a wealth of information and was really the first super site that captured the golf IBB scene.  BSG was a bit harsh to be on as the membership back in the day seemed to be what GolfWRX has become.  I believe my days of going to GolfWRX as a daily must visit is coming to an end.  So yes, I do believe GolfWRX has lost its relevancy.

I'm about saving money when it comes to the clothing. It has to fit right for me. Especially the shirts. Not to tight, room in the arm pits. I found many premium brands at discount stores. Found Greg Norman and PGA at Sam's Cub, Under Armour at Ross, Nike at Marshall's.  I pay in the teens for everything and still look like the guy who spent a few hundred.

I am a member of and follow both. WRX can be excellent in learning about equipment and fitting (Howard Jones and a couple of others come to mind), but I have been flamed over there rather impolitely for stating my opinion on something and rather than argue, I just walked away, even though in my experience, what I said was true.
If they go away, I won't miss it that much.

I did the whole GolfWRX thing. For a period of time, it was great and there were some great folks who were knowledgeable and passionate about golf. It used to be a valuable resource to the inside gouge on what was going on in the golf industry. It was a great resource to past times too. The problem  is (in my opinion anyway) the drive to recruit new forum members who clearly had no intention of contributing in a positive way to posts started to detract from the seasoned members who made it what it was. They drove out the people who made it great - who soon got tired of getting into arguments, childish trash talk and fanboy antics. Yours truly took a certain amount of flak over the years until eventually I quit. Good friends like Howard Jones still posts occasionally but the vibe is much different these days. Personally, I can take or leave forums as the mood or interest takes these days. Consider yourself lucky I still care.

paperclip reacted to LeftyRM7 in My DIY SuperSpeed Golf project and results
I was intrigued when I heard about the SuperSpeed golf sticks and system. After reading enough reviews and success stories I decided to make my own and give it a try. After getting fit for my driver in January in an effort to strengthen my biggest weakness I felt like this was a good next step.

The project itself wasn’t a big deal for me since I have a full fab shop at my disposal at work. I have literally nothing invested in them but a few lunch breaks. I used a piece of 1.5” aluminum round stock from the scrap bin to make the weight. I had an old Wilson driver that wasn’t ever going to be used so I just stole the shaft from that. I liked the idea of adding weights to a single club rather than making and having to carry around 3 separate clubs. I just weighed the shaft and made the first(main) weight get it to the 255-260 gram range and then made a 30 and 50 gram weight to add. I drilled and tapped them and epoxied the main weight to the shaft. I know most people don’t have the luxury of a full fab shop so I won’t go into any more detail, let me know if you’d like me to though.

I’ve seen a bit of discussion on the length and weight specifics but I don’t personally believe it’s that exact of a science. My weights aren’t exact and the length isn’t a full 45”. I think ballparking the specs is ok. The results come from putting in the work and doing the protocols. Just my opinion.

Now for my early results. I’ve been doing the level 1 protocols for almost a month and have already noticed changes. Back in January when I got fit, my club head speed average was at 91.6. I actually gained a few mph during my fitting from my old gamer. That was on trackman. The day before I started the protocols I averaged 94.8 using my Zepp sensor on the range. After a week of protocols I averaged only 95.7 again with my Zepp on the range. I was disappointed after reading about all the big initial jumps but I figured I just needed time. Later that week I played a round and that’s when I started noticing changes. First I was erratic with my driver, really bad, I hit 1 fairway with it. I just wrote that off as a bad day off the tee. The other thing that stood out is I started missing shots long. It really messed up my round but I knew I just had to make a few adjustments to my game and I’d be better than I was. Now after my third week, I spent a lot of time grinding on my driver swing, I averaged 97.5 on the range. I went to play yesterday not knowing what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. My grinding paid off and I was able to hit most fairways and see some added distance. I was consistently a club longer throughout my bag. Shots that used to be layups were now green lights to go for it. Admittedly I am an aggressive player so this was nice for me to have the tools to back it up. I shot my personal best, 90.

I’m happy with the early progress I’ve seen and can’t wait to see where else this process takes me. I’ll give another update in a few weeks. I hope my experience helps someone out there wanting to try building their own or just on the fence about the system itself. Let me know if you have any questions or comments, I always like hearing others opinions and suggestions.

On another note, I had been thinking about getting a launch monitor to help my consistency with distance and this project was just the push I needed. I just bought a swing caddie SC100. So the money I saved on the SuperSpeed system I put into a launch monitor. I hope this will give me better info on my distances as well as track my consistency and speed as it progresses.

paperclip reacted to Mhoncho in Lie angle on wedges
I can shed some light on this as I used to be a Mobile fitter for Titleist in the 90's before launch monitors. The concept of flatter wedges was that for better players you never want to miss a green left as it would generally fly further and roll out. A high cut however will generally land softer and can be easier to control. With a flatter lie a better player could repeat a fade easier.

Many of Titleists tour players would do this to their wedges and through fitters and word of mouth it spread as the "right" thing to do. The correct way to do it of course is to be fit for your swing. A good wedge fitting should incorporate shots off of grass and a lie board. You should take full and half swings and judge the results you find from lie board as well as your divot length and depth to determine what wedge shape, grind, and lofts you should play.

It's much easier to find a fit now with the huge amount of options you can find with wedges.
